Effedding has two 4th Walls. The First one, is the wall between the character and the fictional audience. The second one, is the wall between the character and us! While a character cannot claim that the fictional audience is reading their promos, it can claim that we are, because well.. we are reading promos. The key is knowing what wall is being broken when reading the promos. No...just...no. promos are AIRED. One can claim that they have a transcript but that's really about it. No one should EVER write a promo that talks about writing promos to win matches, how bad a writer your opponent is or how they use their pic base.

Oh no, if you put it that way that sounds ridiculous. As I said, you gotta know how to play with the 4th walls.

Also...don't beat the 4th wall down like it's your bitch. These promos aren't "written". They're watched on TV or a computer. We don't "read" them.
Really? Then I guess deaf people are expert lip readers and don't need subtitles to watch promos. The 4th Wall can be interpreted and played with in many ways.
Congrats. The smartass has been found. A deaf person would read subtitles while watching the action.

Well thanks for confirming that there is reading involved in promos.

It's extremely ridiculous. I've seen some good use of breaking the 4th wall..mainly Deadpool like stuff that is basically a wink and a nod to the reader/watcher. But these things are supposed to be aired unless stated things weren't aired. Case in point, I recently read a promo that, indeed, talked about spelling and writing promos to win matches

If someone uses his character to chew down on a role player's grammar skills, then that's the wrong way of playing with the 4th wall. We are not here to make people feel bad about things like that.
And yah, Deadpool breaking the 4th Wall is badass.

Look at the top guy, see what he does, and copy him.
I've heard that before but never agreed with it. Be yourself, do what appeals to you, and write what you view as fun.

*quietly pushes Anomoly under the rug* The blatant Deadpool ripping of was the worst part of Anomoly for me, lol

This is why I never ask anyone to judge my role plays before i post them or anything like that, because how can a judge know the emotions and memories that inspired such role play. Sometimes it is inspired by something on an subconscious level. If I'm gonna lose because i wrote a bad RP that I thought it was fun to write, so be it! It is still a lot better than winning by copying the style of another good RPer. I tend to not give feedback on people's RPs for this reason. The only time i submitted an opinion about a roleplayer was in Demigods and that was because the guy showed complete disregard of the Fed‘s rules and gameplay mechanics.

I think you're missing the message there. It's not "Be a top guy clone" -- it's 'what does this guy do that works really well', and be inspired by it/take it as motivation. The people I consider to be top-tier here all have something distinctive that they do better than others. Learning what that is and how they do it so you can get better at your stuff is a great way to get better at roleplaying. Though if you're not having fun, it unfortunately shows really strongly in RPs.

This reminds me of a time where (in WEW) I had my Saint Jericho character - who is a heel - acknowledge that fans talk to each other on stuff like Yahoo...only almost all the staff claim that my character's gimmick, and my writing, is all "I break the 4th wall to be cool" (without even asking me about it) and proceed to slag me off in their promos and all results (yes, they RP along with judge and write the matches in the fed), to a point they had both commentators - one clearly a face and the other obviously a heel - slag me off in every match, even having the heel commentator straight up say that my character should retire. Heck one member of staff, Michael Harris, had his Calvin character straight up make up who I (the handler) would look like and insult me, instead of my character, throughout the RP he had against me...and won in a squash match. xD Almost being the key word as one staff, calling him Jamie since I don't remember his character's name, privately sent me a message where he praised me for using the commentary to motivate my world title RP against Hannah (co-owner of the fed), since it is a finals of a tournament for a vacant title, and even said that he'd love to see me face her again. A day before the results Darius (the other co-owner) messaged me to ask if I'd feud with Hannah after the match. I politely said that the only way I'd feud would be if it involves a guy I was feuding with at the time since we haven't finish our feud yet...only for him to go completely silent, I lose the match and Hannah instantly jumped to a title "feud" against someone that left the fed years ago. xD Just that comment reminds me of all that, lol.

Wait, so if talking about the fans is 4th wall breaking- what uh....what did they want? Like your character to not even live in the real world? Like we play thinks kayfabe here but it's implied folk are watching the fed, lol

You didn't even break the 4th wall in that example. As public people, our characters have fans. Fans talk on message boards.

You were not breaking 4th Wall there though. So either they were idiots who didnt understand the concept or the ones that ganged up on you simply didnt like you and wanted you gone.
