DAY AFTER BLOODSHED - 2011
...Kevin’s office door shut behind him. The space was an elegant executive style office with a brown luxurious desk and high leather chair but otherwise cold. The right side of the office, however, displayed a much more personal atmosphere. This is where his gym was located. There was an assortment of exercise equipment, from benches, barbells, and racks of free weights to elliptical machines, stationary bikes and treadmills. This place was truly his sanctuary, not because of the gym per say, but because of the framed wrestling posters/ads the walls were decorated with.
Capone dropped his Louis Vuitton duffle bag and took a deep breath as if it were the first time he'd laid eyes on these priceless mementos (to him). This was all the motivation he needed to keep going. Kevin came up to the first one, a cheap Kinko’s flyer with colors faded like a book cover left out in the sun. The event featured Kevin Capone's debut match. Though it wasn’t evident since every match except his was listed on the card. At the time, he didn’t care. He was just happy to finally get paid. Here’s an excerpt:
BIG APPLE WRESTLING
Great Action on display!
The BAW Tag-team Champions - The Fruits in Suits take on The Broncos…plus much much more!
May 14th, 2001…Lost Battalion Hall – Queens, NY
Tickets only $5
Kevin inserted his hands into his workout straps as he set his eyes on another poster that featured a traditional face off between Capone wearing a grey bandana folded into a four inch headband exposing his bald head and his opponent, a man with jet-black hair slicked back into a ponytail.
The main event read:
AMERICAN SUPERSTARS OF WRESTLING
KevLove vs. Andrew ‘Big Bad’ Wolf
Live from the NEC Arena in Birmingham, England
11,000 expected in attendance…The two premiere rising stars in the world clash!
Don’t miss out! 12-5-2003
The picture captured scowls on the faces of the rivals but in reality Capone was smiling inside. There was nothing to be angry about. He was nearly a year removed from New York and the limited confines of its local venues, which he had long before outgrown. Not to mention, the buzz he had garnered to this point was enough to merit headlining an international event.
One of his numerous stints in Germany was represented on the wall as well. Kevin pulled on his right foot; pushing his heel on to his glutes as he gazed at the advertisement of his battle with the "Godfather of Wrestling" in Germany.
RINGKAMPF FÖDERATION VON DEUTSCHLAND
Pate des Deutsch Ringkampf – J VON FEUER VS KEVLOVE - Amerikanischen Superstar
Samstag 15. Oktober 2005 um 07.30 Uhr
WESERSTADION IN BREMEN - Kapazität: 42,500 Personen
That was only one of their many encounters, but what made that night special was the fans actually cheered KevLove, the foreigner, and of course the huge crowd the event drew…Capone now sat on a bench pulling on his elastic knee support braces one at a time as he looked up at another particularly interesting poster. This piece was written in Japanese with English captions. The poster itself was printed on blue paper and featured a bloody KevLove hitting a random wrestler with the F5 and his opponent, a fellow in his late 40’s with a receding hairline, applying a crossface on a different grappler. The headline here was:
Japan Wrestling Association Presents –
MASATO FUJIYAMA vs. KEVLOVE
Japanese Legend meets The International Pimp at last!
Tokyo Dome…Attendance: 51,762…
SOLD OUT – January 24th 2006
REMATCH COMING SOON!
The event had been such a success, that the herd of fans who had been turned away at the door created a riot. This action forced the promotion to print an impromptu poster promoting a rematch. They posted copies of it in every nook of the building that night…This was one of those posters.
There were countless more but Capone couldn’t help but focus on the last piece placed on the wall as he now attached his weight-lifting belt to his back. It wasn’t a poster for an event or match. Instead, it was a picture of Kevin Capone and Tommy Lipton shaking hands while Capone held up his recently signed WWX contract on his left hand, dated May 18th 2011.
They were both smiling. Capone was especially beaming. That was a stark contrast to his reflection that now came off of the picture frame’s glass. There were no smiles the day after Bloodshed. Especially since there was an empty frame next to that picture where Capone intended to place a remnant of his first major WWX accomplishment. For now, it’d have to continue empty...
Championship History:
WWX North American Champion (1x)
Theme Music:
J.Cole - MIDDLE CHILD
Entrance:
The lights go out and J. Cole's – Middle Child blares from the arena sound system in the pitch black. After several seconds the lights come back on and Kevin Capone is already standing at the top of the ramp, eyes cold.
Kevin Capone’s face features a 4-finger length beard with sporadic strands of gray, which serves to camouflage the horrific marks on his face, and balding head with connected short dreads at the far back of his dome. His body drenched in pre-match workout sweat, accentuates the machine gunshot looking wounds littered around his body courtesy of the near fatal hit and run incident in 2011.
The 6 inch vertical scar down Capone’s toned abdomen is still visible along with the “Scarred For Life” tattoo right above it through the light amount of hair over his torso. He stretches both arms wearing padded fighter’s gloves and cruises down the ramp in a blacked out ensemble, black boxing trunks several inches above the knee and short black boots, no socks. He does his ballistic stretches, swinging his arms performing different combinations, before making it to the ring, hopping on the apron in one swoop and pulling on the top ropes with bad intentions. Kevin Capone enters the ring between the middle and top rope and assumes his position in a corner, his eyes never letting up of their laser focus.
