CWO Wrestling, Peterborough, Ontario - Sunday, November 8
We open on CWO owner Vic Tully and recently retired competitor Bobby Michaels standing backstage post-show, mics in hand.
Vic: “Welcome to the CWO recap show folks. The big story tonight is the crowning of the inaugural CWO Women’s League champion. It was a great night of action, wouldn’t you agree Bobby?”
Bobby: “Absolutely Vic. Our first round matchups were all very interesting pairings, let’s run through the results there.”
Bobby and Vic continue in voiceover as clips begin to play.
Vic: “In our first round matchups we saw the luchadora La Pantera take down submission specialist Becky Waters with a beautiful springboard huricanrana.”
Bobby: “Powerhouse Ellie James beat high flyer Macy Evers in under a minute with the Torture Rack. ‘Cowgirl’ Bonnie Burns defeated Liz Monroe in a grueling match that almost went to the twenty minute time limit with a pair of short-arm lariats.”
Vic: “And lastly Cassie Hunter defeated veteran Lucille Abrams with her Amazon Bomb to close out the first round, setting up second round matchups of James versus Burns and Hunter versus La Pantera.”
Bobby: “And in the second round we saw Ellie James really take advantage of how much energy Burns used up in that first round match with James jumping on Burns quickly and finishing her off with that devastating Torture Rack. La Pantera versus Cassie was an entirely different dynamic, the speed and agility of the lady of lucha against the power of Hunter.”
Vic: “Ultimately we saw Hunter pick up the victory after countering a crucifix pin attempt into the Amazon Bomb. Bobby, I was really looking forward to the matchup in the finals, the two powerhouses in Ellie James and Cassie Hunter. Hunter a bit taller, powerlifter turned pro wrestler, and James just a big, mean, tough farm girl.”
Bobby: “Mean is right; as Cassie was recovering from her victory, James jumped her from behind with a steel chair, landing several shots to the back before the referees were able to separate them. Thankfully Cassie was still good to compete, but she was favouring her back right from the opening bell.”
Vic: “Yeah, and I think everyone thought that James was going to be able to take advantage of that situation, but Cassie really surprised everyone by abandoning the power game right from the start and switching to a very effective speed game.”
Bobby: “Right? I know it caught me off guard. I don’t think anyone’s going to mistake her for a high flyer anytime soon, but Cassie was really running circles around Ellie in there, frustrating her with strikes and then getting out of reach before Ellie could do any damage. In the end we saw Cassie counter a suplex attempt into a cravate before landing a plethora of knee strikes, which set Ellie up to eat a textbook Shining Wizard, giving Cassie Hunter the win and making her the first ever CWO Women’s League champion.”
The shot fades out on Cassie raising an arm triumphantly, grinning widely as the referee slips the belt around her waist and the announcers move on to discuss other matters.
We come back on Cassie backstage, sweaty, tired and grinning ear to ear as she holds the championship belt in her lap, looking down at it. She looks up when Bonnie Burns steps out of the women’s locker room, dressed in street clothes, pulling her bag behind her.
Bonnie: “Congrats champ. You earned that… even if you didn’t beat me.”
The smile on Bonnie’s face makes it clear she’s not trying to pick a fight and Cassie returns the look.
“Thanks. You’ll get your shot at some point, I’m sure.”
Bonnie: “Oh, I will. In the meantime, all the other girls are gone so, y’know, turn out the lights when you’re done changing I guess.”
Cassie nods before standing slowly, wincing a little at the soreness in her back.
Bonnie: “You alright?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. Gonna have some good bruises but nothing worse than that I think. I’ll be plenty healed up before I take on Terminatrix in NPW in a couple weeks. That’s my next big one anyway.”
Bonnie: “Oh, I’ve heard of her. That whole group seems kinda… y’know, nuts.”
“Meh, we’re all a little crazy, right? Anyway, I’ve got my first ever championship belt so all is right with the world.”
Bonnie: “Oh, that’s your first title? Hope you’ve got plans to celebrate!”
Cassie shoots her a grin and shrugs as she slings her belt over her shoulder.
“Yeah, I’ve got an idea or two.”
Cassie gives Bonnie a wave, watching her leave before glancing off camera in the opposite direction, biting her bottom lip a little.
“Hey, think you can help me with something?”
The shot cuts to the women's locker room, the only sound “Put Your Back Into It” by Ice Cube. We’re focused tight on Cassie’s face, eyes rolled back halfway in her head, hair a mess, mouth open as if moaning out a long curse, trembling for a long moment before her head drops. The song stops and Cassie’s breathing is audible, heavy as she tries to compose herself a little, rolling over, the shot panning out a bit to show her upper body, sports bra-style wrestling top still on.
“Exactly what I needed, thanks Mike.”
The shot pans up to a include grinning wrestler, standing up and adjusting his tights.
Mike: “I can’t believe that’s your ring tone.”
“Hey, it’s a classic, y’know?”
Both laugh a little before Mike walks out with a wave, the shot settling back on Cassie, laying back on the floor, her title belt next to her, smiling contentedly before grabbing her phone to check the missed call as the shot fades to black.
“Fuck, it’s good to be the champ…”
