Alright, I'm gonna drop a big 'ole flavor bomb on y'all to catch people who don't know the Bleach story up to speed. I want to say that I am not revealing my powers or anything but I figure that since we're doing factions it'd be useful to at least know what is going on and stuff. I'll try to include the characters who've either been revealed so far or hinted at. Again, this is mostly flavor and catching up.
Hey, I'm Ichigo, and I see ghosts. I'm not sure why but one of my little sister's can kind of see them, though not really so it might be hereditary. It's definitely not on my dad's side though, because he's an idiot and doesn't see jack.
Yeah, feel free to be embarrassed for me. Anyway, like I said, I see ghosts- that is, people who've died but are unable to get to heaven because of some sort of attachment to earth. Maybe they didn't finish something or maybe there's emotional ties. They come to me and beg me to solve their stupid problems and won't leave me alone until I do.
As it turns out, I'm not the only one out there helping ghosts. There are agents from heaven (which is called "Soul Society" or something, I guess) who are doing this too. Except they usually just jam ghosts with the butt of their swords and they go to heaven- way easier. But they serve another purpose, protecting humans from hollows...
Hollows are ghosts that didn't get any help and eventually were overcome by their darker impulses. They have an insatiable hunger to feed on souls- both living and dead. They're never satisfied but grow in power as they consume more souls. My mom was killed by a hollow
This jerk-ass specifically. My dad doesn't believe me but I saw it with my own eyes.
Anyway, one day one of these agents from Soul Society (called "Death Gods") was fighting a hollow and got injured. Since I was the only one who could see what was going on I offered to help and in desperation she gave me enough of her power to fight.....but I accidentally took all her powers and had to take over as a replacement Death God while she recovered.
That's me with Rukia, the Death God who gave me her powers and basically trained me. I think that she's with us this time (Guillotina?).
But there's a catch to all this. You see, Death Gods don't use physical bodies and were mine to get hurt it would take a long-ass time to heal. So when I'm out death-godding, my body just sort of lays around. This is fine at night but consider I have to go to school you can understand how that could be a problem. Enter Kon
.....I'm angry just looking at what he's doing to my body.
Kon is what's called a "mod soul" an experiment Soul Society ran of creating enhanced artificial souls for...uh....I don't think that's ever been made clear. Eventually they deemed this as a terrible idea (artificial souls, really?) and destroyed all of the mod souls.....well, almost all of them. Kon managed to somehow get away (and a few others as well). When I need to do some hollow-fighting, Kon takes over my body and tries to keep up appearances. He's terrible at that, by the way. He is rude, constantly skips class, performs inhuman feats of jumping and kicking ALL IN MY BODY WHICH HE THEN DAMAGES!
As a small measure of revenge we shove him into the body of a dirty old stuffed animal most of the time.
I can't hate Kon because he just wants to live- but I can also hate him BECAUSE HE DOESN'T RESPECT
MY BODY!
Anyway, back to hollow-fighting. When a Death God kills a hollow, the spirits within them dissipate and are able to cross into heaven. So ultimately death gods are doing a good job despite being a little draconian (like for real, destroying all the mod souls?).
But death gods aren't the only ones who fight hollows. There's a group of humans on earth who are not only able to see ghosts/hollows like me but can also fight them with more than just punches and kicks. They're called the Quincy.
We used to think that my friend Ishida was the last of their kind because Soul Society may or may not have tried to commit genocide on them. Yeah, ok, I already said they were really draconian and not cool, right? The problem is that when a Quincy kills a hollow, all that spirit energy just goes away. That means that there's no going to heaven and because you're ripping spiritual stuff out of the equation it's not real good for the balance of the worlds. But, since humans are the ones getting eaten by hollows, Quincy feel it's their birthright to protect humanity as they see fit. Quincy and Death Gods have a very bad relationship with each other, for obvious reasons. I mention this because Kira told me about one Quincy already and I don't think it was flavor text- I'll assume they're here.
There are also some non-quincy empowered humans.
That's Chad and Orihime, their powers are hollow-based. Soul Society is not real keen on that so uh....keep that under wraps. I only bring it up because one of us is a human who DOES NOT have any spiritual powers, except kicking tail and punching really hard
Tatsuki is a bad-ass. She hates bullies and people who tell her that she's not good enough. She is maybe the toughest person at school (after me, of course). I don't know why she's here though, because although I've seen her punch a hollow when directed, she has no spiritual ability at all. I know that I got a fake claim (which I ignored because I am absolutely not going to deny being me) so it could be that "Tatsuki" isn't Tatsuki at all but is maybe somebody else (like a Hollow?) in disguise.
FOS: Scorps But who knows. Maybe she's here to kick bad-guy ass and take names just like me!
It's hard to gauge where my loyalties lie. I am a human, but I'm also a death god, but I've also got hollow powers, and when I lost my powers the quincy helped me regain them (I think? I can't remember that part because I read it a long time ago and didn't really enjoy it). I'm also what's considered a Vizard- which are hollow-empowered death gods. I don't know if they're here so I won't go into details. Which team is mine?
*Shrugs*
I guess you'll just have to find out.
