A dark room, just three candles, on a wooden table, to enlighten the place. A silhouette is seen, sitting behind the table, with the candles in front of him. The silhouette takes a deep breath, and begins speaking in a tranquil tone.
“Fighters. Warriors of the modern age. Gladiators. A lot can be said about wrestlers nowadays. Some even say we´re clowns in tights. We got to fight with a lot of prejudice and stigmata, but the fact that these halls where we fight are day in and day out filled with spectators speaks miles for itself.
We are highly seen and adored by the fans, which makes up for the narrow mindedness of some other human beings. We are no clowns, we are fighters who place everything on the table when we enter that ring; Health, Calm, Respect. We put everything on the line and gain a lot from it too.
But we also make mistakes. These mistakes cost us dearly, in our quest for fame and glory. Some look far away and forget to see the fight standing in front of them”
The man ,which we now recognize as Eron Hunter, blows one candle light off. He leans back, in his chair and resumes his speech.
“ Adrien Cochrane. You are a skilled fighter, humble to boot, but it seems you are forgetting something very important, and that is to look down at the path you´re walking in. You truly want that final showdown with MYOJIN, I understand that, but if you forget to check where you are standing, you´ll fall down before you are able to spread your wings and reach for the skies.
If you forget where you are, you´ll never reach for another mountain top in your career.
Where you are going is as important as where you´ve been.”
Eron leans forward and blows the second candle light off. He scratches his head and restarts speaking
“Jay Stevens. Second generation wrestler. Able to rely on a lot of experience, coming from fathers, uncles, cousins. You are a gifted son, a beloved cousin and spectacular child, who can lean back and enjoy the view, protected by generations that have been there before you.
But there´s a problem, if you keep relying on what has been, you´ll never understand what is now. You are protected, that is true, but it is also a fact that you´ve been chasing your family´s shadows in all this time.
I should know something about that. I was but a mere shadow of my big name too, until I decided to become something on my own and cut the ties with my past and my family. If I had been the type of man, who plays it secure, I would´ve never become something that I love. I would´ve been a boring bureaucrat, a rich and spoiled brat, a successful academical type, anything but the one thing I love the most.
I would´ve never been a fighter.
Jay Stevens. I know where you come from, but I ask you this: Do you even know where you are going? I will doubt it, until I face you again and see for myself what you have decided to be.”
The last candle is throwing around a fickle light. Eron points at it,and blows the final light off, after a second. There is almost no light in the room no more. It is almost pitch black, If it wasn´t for some street light coming from the small window on the left. Erons silhouette can still be seen. He leans back on the chair again, his voice echoes in the room tranquil as before.
“ Talking about people who know where they have been and where they are going, but forget to look up in the skies, for they are too busy looking down on other people.
Chris Cavanagh. You are skilled, that I can see. But can you say you´re humble enough to learn from your experiences and become a more complete fighter today, than you were yesterday? That, I can say, I doubt. You see your wins as the natural thing to happen, which in itself isn´t that bad, but you fail to see your shortcomings and learn from your mistakes.
You underestimate.
Which, I too have done, and that will come to bite you sooner rather than later. You underestimate Eron Hunter and think you will be able to be the better man, even if you go at fifty percent power, while I go full throttle.
I too have underestimated someone in this tournament, and that almost cost me a lot. I was able to come this far because of a second chance. A second chance you will not have anymore, in this tournament, if you fail to capitalize the chance you have right now.
Cavanagh. We will meet in that ring, and if you haven´t thought about what I said in these few moments, you will lose and you will lose badly. And when you stand there, on the mat, with only a bag of excuses in your possession, tell me who will you look up to to learn and worship? If your narcissism doesn´t allow you to see your shortcomings, believe me, you will never become a complete fighter.
Instead, you will be chasing shadows for the rest of your existence.
And I do not want to see or understand how pitiful that can be.”
The place is dark. Eron lowers the curtains of the small window.
And the rest is obscurity.
