Black and white footage rolls. We see a much younger Chris “Trigger” Cavanagh connecting on an unnamed wrestler with a Coup de Grace in the center of the ring. Trigger covers and hooks the leg, the referee counts to three. The referee runs off, and comes back handing Trigger a championship belt. Trigger’s face is covered in joy and he lets out a large roar as he hoists the gold in the air.
The scene cuts to Trigger Cavanagh seated on a bar stool in the Blarney Stone. His clothing is wrinkled, his face covered in stubble, his eyes bloodshot red. Trigger takes a shot of an amber liquid and shakes off the reaction. He grabs the green bottle of Jameson in front of him and pours another shot.
The first championship you ever hold—that accomplish right there, its like the first time a junkie is born. First time a fiend is born its the best high they ever get, that’s why they keep going back to the dope man. They keep chasing that first high. I guess you could say all of us professional wrestlers aren’t far from being fiends in our own right. That first title run is always the on that feels the best, not taking anything away from anything after but you’re constantly chasing that feeling you had.
Trigger’s hand goes into the pocket of Trigger’s hooded sweatshirt. He retrieves a pack of Kool cigarettes. He lights a cigarette up and takes a deep drag.
I sit here thinking about how to best attack the third night of the Cruiserweight Cup Tournament—how do I make sure that Trigger Cavanagh is the one with his head held high in victory at the end of the night? I think about what an accomplishment like that means and what it unlocks. It means that I bested a slew of other cruiserweights and that I’m on my way to an XHF Junior Heavyweight Championship match at Vicious Valentines. Now, I know I’m going to be able to pull this off—I’ll admit that I’m one hell of a cocky son of a bitch but I’ve been sitting there proving why I am the way I am my entire life. I’ve had to fight to be noticed since I was a little fucking kid so the fact that I’m still fighting for recognition, when I know I deserve it, is pretty pathetic if you ask me.
Trigger takes his shot of Jameson before taking another puff of his cigarette. He returns his attention to the camera.
I know…nobody asked me my opinion on jack shit but as the entire roster here in NPW has been learning us Cavanaghs are going to express our opinions and make sure you all hear them loud and clear. So, with that being the case, let me start off on how I will win the 2021 Cruiserweight Cup. I gotta start with the first road block, Eron Hunter. I look at the four men remaining in this tournament and I see two homegrown talents, Jay Stevens and yourself, and two guys from outta town Adrien Cochrane and myself. Funny how it all boils down to a fifty-fifty shot for Northern Pro to win their own championship and you happen to be one of the guys left to represent this company. I gotta give credit where credit is due, you made it this far so I know for shit sure you ain't no slouch.
Trigger goes to take a drag of his cigarette but its gone out. He shakes his head and tosses the cigarette to the side.
I won't sit here and pretend to know everything you've ever accomplished and ever pain you've ever felt. I won't sit here and pretend that you're some weak piece of shit. I also won't sit here and ramble on about every time I beat this guy or won this title. What I will say is in this profession there are predators and there are apex predators. You can't make it in this business as a sheep, prey doesn't last in this sport! Each one of us, in our own way, is one of the toughest sons of bitches that ever came out of our respective communities. It's kind of like saying a ball player is shit--they were still miles better than everyone else in their town. But, on that note...there will always be those of us that fall a bit short when it comes to playing in the big leagues. There will always be a guy that was supposed to shine bright and in the end, they ended up crashing and burning. As far as I'm concerned the first stage of this tournament was like we all were proving ourselves in the minor leagues. Now, the four of us that remain--we're the guys who got the Spring Training invite from the big league club. Now, two of us are going to make it to the big league team in the finals of this tournament. Eron, whatever you think you're going to be able to do to eliminate me in the first round of the tournament you better start thinking of a back up plan and another three or four after that. When it comes to fighting for my life, when it comes to fighting for my mere existence--I'm like a mother wolf protect her pups Eron. I'm going to bite, scratch, claw...I'm going to use every weapon in my arsenal and you bet your ass any underhanded tactic I can if the opportunity presents itself. You are not going to force me to make an early exit from this tournament. Eron Hunter will NOT be the reason that Trigger Cavanagh isn't crowned the 2021 Northern Pro Wrestling Cruiserweight Cup winner on Tuesday night! Be prepared to make your early exit, there isn't another option Eron.
