The scene opens, with Eron sitting under an apple tree, back leaning against the trunk. The apple tree flowers have withered, the ground around the tree is barren, it´s the last day of January after all. Eron looks at the camera, taking a deep drag out of the cigarette he´s holding in his right hand, and begins speaking in a calm tone.
“They say the apple doesn´t fall too far from the tree. Like father, like sons. Guess one has to look up to ones parents after all. I do not think you´re to blame for being who you are Chris. Father a criminal, big brother a no good doer, sure thing you would become who you are…
…After all, one does not betray family, no? Guess you had to grow up the way you have. You just do not know any better. Am I right? Guess Chris Cavanagh had to become the man he is right now. You did not have a choice in the matter, people guess after hearing about your background.”
Eron waves his hand in front of his face and shakes his head in disagreement
“But I disagree!
One has a choice in every matter. Man has control of himself, at least most of the time. I too had a family; they are the rich, snotty and superior acting people. Do I love my family? Yes. Do I have to become like them in order to love them? No! As I said, one has something to say about the matter of one´s self evolving issue.
I turned my back on my family, because I didn´t want to become a rich and snotty kid, who acts superior because he was born wealthy, while others have no bread to spare for their children. I absolutely had a choice in the matter, I wanted to build my own future, wanted to become something I loved and something people around me cared about.
I am a solitary wolf, but that´s my choice. And that, Chris Cavanagh, is all I am rambling about. Man has almost always an alternative. So if you decide to be the cocky, no good, two bit idiot who looks down at everything in his path, then this was your own choice. And when you will sit down there, on the mat, with your fists clinched in frustration, remember that you had a say in the mater and the preference was your own.
What I am saying is that you will lose. Not because you´re an idiot, no, but because simply put…
..I am better than you!”
Eron points at the camera. There is no sight of anger in his face, or a superior tone in his voice, he is calm as ever.
“Why? Because I evolve, and because I learn something from every fight I m put in. You, on the other hand, can only find excuses about your shortcomings. Thus you never learn. Thus you never become better and you never achieve self-realization.
I am a human being, just like you, Cavanagh, but in difference from you I can look at myself and say that I am not perfect. I say that and accept it like the truth it is, and thus I strive to become tomorrow what I fell short on becoming today.
I have questions too, like the ones you spouted in your rambling of some hours ago, and I too try to find the answers for them. It is only human, to have questions I mean, and the answers one gives to his questions determine the path one chooses for his life. So, shortly put, the life is your own and you are free to do with it what you please, but just don´t go and make a habit of looking for the answers of your failures elsewhere. They are there, within you, it´s you who is the architect of your own existence. And the path you´ve chosen is the path of failure. “
Eron crosses his arms on his chest, takes a deep breath, and resumes his speech ever tranquil, like he always is.
“Am I emotional? Well, I am a human being, and the fans have heard me saying this a million times, but I will say it again; we are made of flesh and water, if it wasn´t for our emotions we, recycled, would be no more worth than a roll of toilette paper. Am I emotional? Sure thing, I am, and there also one more sure thing, I know myself and I know what I can and cannot do, and that is because I understand my emotions.
I know that I will get angry at injustice.
I know that I will feel positive after each good deed I do.
And I know, I absolutely know, that I will feel dignified after each fight I deliver.
That, Cavanagh, means being a fighter. It means being a warrior. It means being able to deliver day in and day out, what most cannot do. That is why I am considered one of the greats, even if I am only twenty six and with a lot of time I front of me.
Do I have questions? Sure, but the point is not asking questions. It is asking the Right Ones.
And what is more important than asking the right questions?
It´s giving the Right Answers.
I know the answers of our fight, Cavanagh, and I will deliver them each and every time you try to cheat, use underhanded tactics or do anything you want to do in order to win.
Bring your answers and we´ll measure them to mine.
Let´s see who´s just plain better”
Eron stands up and dusts his clothes off, as the scene fades to black.
