I actually just caught another Snorelax Friday at 2400+. He was sitting in front of the grocery store practically sitting on the Girl Scouts.
What's everyone's pokedex at? I'm on a roll with mine. I seem to add at least one Pokémon a day right now and I feel like I'm not hinting as much as my friends I'm just getting lucky.

The new update it a lot of fun. The gyms are more interesting and the raid bosses promote group play even if you're not on the same team.

I was wondering if the raid bosses would help or hurt things. What was the change to gyms?

Don't need to prestige any more to open new slots, but max of 6 instead of 10.
Only one of each Pokémon in a gym (yay no more Blissey towers)
Gyms can be spun like pokestops, you get bonus items if it's your teams gym. (Don't know if you get any further bonus if one of your Pokémon is actually in the gym)
You need to feed Pokémon berries or their motivation will drop. Motivation is shown with a heart that gradually empties. Once the motivation goes completely the Pokémon leaves the gym.
Winning against defenders lowers the defenders motivation. Three victories against a defender will boot it out. This obviously depends on whether someone is actively feeding it berries between battles.
You don't fight from lowest CP to highest CP but in the order the Pokémon was put into the gym. First in, first fought. This is why you see random Pokémon now, because if they're hidden behind a wall of Lapras, Blissey and Snorlax, even a Pidgey stands a chance at racking up some coins.
The CP of a Pokémon will drop in real-time according to its motivation. So you may put in a 3000 CP Gyarados, but by the time its motivation is almost empty (because you or your team mates haven't fed it, or its suffered 2 defeats) then it's CP might be down at something like 900.
Because of this, gyms battling generally feels easier. 18 rounds max to clear a fully stocked and healed gym and rounds 7-12 will be easier than the first 6, and 13-18 will be even easier than the second.
Putting Pokémon into gyms earns you gym badges. Not exactly sure how they work but I think the longer you hold the gym and/or the more times you hold it, you get extra bonuses. It's nice to be able to go into your journal and see the badges from all the gyms you've held.
You can also check your journal to see which Pokémon are in what gyms, and keep tabs on how many victories they've had and how long they've been there.
You don't claim coins manually any more, and the cap is now 50/day Instead of 100 (not that I ever saw 100 coins without opening up PayPal lol) coins are also only granted when a Pokémon returns to you and can vary depending on how long they're in there. If you get booted after 10 minutes, you will get like 1 coin. Come back after a day or so and it'll be 30 or more.
Unfortunately you can end up in a scenario where say you've got 2 Pokémon out in gyms. They sit there for 3 days, and for those 3 days you can't actually claim coins. Then one gets sent back - yay, 50 coins! But then the other one gets sent back shortly after... And you've already had max coins claimed that day. Basically, it sat there for 3 days and earned zero coins.
This new system has rubbed some people the wrong way, a large portion of the criticism seems to be hardcore players complaining that they've lost their monopoly in gyms and a guaranteed 100 coins a day... more constructive criticism is that gyms are potentially too easy to beat now, and there doesn't seem to be any incentive to hold gyms for a long time.
I generally like it, except the coin reward system needs reworking. It doesn't make a lot of sense to actually WANT your Pokémon to be sent back to you, and you risk being "double booked" like I described above and missing out completely in coins from one Pokémon.
EDIT: I've also noticed that since they put the focus back on gym battling, making it more accessible for casual players to do so, as well as introducing raids, Pokestop potion drops seem to have decreased dramatically. I was throwing Max Potions away in their hundreds before, now I have to circle the town just to scrounge a few basic ones!

Great explanation. The coin system is messed up but it's nice to know if you're in a gym that turns over pretty regularly you can get a decent amount of coins from it. I've got the most coins I've had this entire game right now

So far I've done four raids. One level four with four other players and caught a Charizard. Last night I hopped in randomly with two players and got a Muk. Today I tried to get a group for a Charizard but only one person was coming and that's not really enough for a level four so I ended up doing two level ones solo and got a Croconaw and a magikarp and my first TM

It's new with the raids and the gym rework. I haven't used it yet it can be anything the Pokémon you use it on can learn. There are charge and quick TMs, I got a charge TM but I'm going to wait on using it for awhile. I was thinking about using it on my Espeon that has a shitty charge move and hopeing it learns Pshycic or Future Sight

Psychic would be balls awesome I imagine (it's still one of the best moves in the mainline games)
How did you get the espeon? Was it through hard work and grinding up an evee or is there some way to catch it?

Future Sight is better in Go. The move it learns is random though, you don't get to choose. It WON'T be the one it just forgot. I used my fast TM to get my best pokemon Gyarados to forget Bite and Learn its best quick move Dragon Tail. I am having fun with this new addition. I managed to snag a Rhydon (but couldn't catch it, ok mine thatbeat it was better anyhow), a Magikarp, a Muk (which I needed for my dex) but my favorite was last night. Me and 13 other people took down a level four 32000 CP Tyranitar and I caught it on 2 premier balls! TYRANITAR IS THE BEST BABY

If you beat the boss yes but you get 5 balls for winning, and bonuses for damage done, if your team had that gym when he spawned, and based on the percentage of damage done by your team to the raid boss. I think the max is like 14. But the balls are ALL you can use and the boss runs when you run out. And they are just the same level as regular pokeballs so you REALLY need to have your curveball and your great/excellent throws down and use your razz and golden razz berries as needed. The raid boss's CP drops to where it will be when you own him before you try to catch him so my 25000CP Muk was caught at 1535 and my Tyranitar was 2100. Magikarp was 95 and Rhydon was 1650 (mine was 2690 so .... yeah)

Wow, Go is catching up with the mainstream games in terms of complexity at a very fast rate, lol. But that's cool. You get the fun of teamwork and then a team-wide payoff
