I will.
Jay Stevens.
It’s not about what I’ve done, it’s about what I will do.
No fanfare is required for the young man who finds himself the number one contender to the Cruiserweight throne.
See, I’m not a man to rest on my past accomplishments. I win or I learn, but either way I move forward. Lord Dominicus, you are someone who is, quite sadly, obsessed with adulation for even the smallest of victories. So obsessed that it keeps you from seeing one very obvious problem… I am unlike anyone you’ve ever faced.
Removing his jacket, Jay slings it over the back of a folding chair, stretches and continues.
Yes, I’ll admit that you’ve done quite well for yourself, especially in the absence of real challenges. While you are focused on the fact that you’ve achieved things I haven’t, you keep forgetting one fateful word… yet.
He smirks.
Your past may be my future but make no mistake, that future is now. Your time of ducking, dodging and silly games is over. When I get you in that ring there will be no escape. I will show you that all the reasons you’ve been avoiding me are valid. I’m stronger. I’m faster. I’m better.
Because unlike the men you’ve faced before, I don’t get distracted by childish antics. Not your mask… the “jokes”... the games… or any amount of dogs will be able to keep you from being exposed as an insecure pretender.
But I’m not pretending. You’ve made it a point to pat yourself on the back for “representing NPW” on the global scale in one breath and very deftly tacking on the fact that you’ve failed in all of those outings. You claim to be some sort of flag bearer for the company but your true motivations have always been self-serving, the primary goal being to avoid defending your titles and adding days to your reign, all to inflate that oversized ego.
Jay takes a seat and leans forward, hunched with one elbow to his knee, he gestures with his opposite hand as he speaks.
I didn’t need to leave Northern Pro Wrestling to represent what we stand for here. But you don’t understand the very basic tenets that this company was built on.
Professional wrestling as the one true sport.
I embody this to my very core. Because I am not here to play around and secure television airtime. That’s you. I’m not here to be an “entertainer.” That’s you. I’m not here to prove to anyone else that I have value, I’m not desperately seeking validation. That’s you.
I am here to compete. I am here to prove that I am the absolute best professional wrestler on the earth and the only way to do that is to step into the ring with each and every person who would be so bold as to say differently.
The North American Cruiserweight Championship will be my first true opportunity to do these things. And when I am champion, I have no issue carrying the weight of what a true champion must do.
To defend against all challengers. To fight with pride. Sportsmanship. Honor.
Those are not things you did.
He pauses, his next words delivered with much resolve.
But I will.
Jay leans back into the chair, intensely looking forward and nodding.
Cut.
