TEN YEARS AGO
“Are you sure this is what you want to do with your life?” Those are the words I can clearly remember hearing from my parents ten years ago, when they found out that I wanted to be a professional wrestler. I was not surprised at all that they did not approve of this choice they wanted me to get a so called real job so to speak, not something as risky as the wrestling industry. My parents wanted me to have a “real” job and to start a family and settle down, but they knew that wrestling was a very challenging endeavor one that was full of risk of injuries, but also a very complicated job to have to settle down and possibly raise a family.
Tony Rios: Now that I am under contract in NPW, my opportunity to make an impact here has arrived. However, of course that is easier said then done. However I do see this as a great opportunity to achieve even more success in my wrestling career. Of course that is easier said than done because you can’t take anyone lightly ever because when you do you will pay the price very quickly.
Tony Rios: My opportunity this week in my debut here in NPW is against a man known as “D”, I don’t know a lot about him, except that he has achieved quite a bit of success early on as he is currently the Northern Openweight Champion. So with that said he obviously knows how to win especially winning a tournament to win that championship. So it goes without saying that he will be quite the test in my debut match.
Tony pauses for a moment before continuing to speak.
Tony Rios: “D” seems to be quite the enigma to say the least he feels that he needs to save people from themselves or something to that degree and I guess that is fine for some people, but not me. I am quite happy where I am at and the life that I am living so I should be in my right frame of mind to take on and defeat someone of his magnitude. It’s a great opportunity for me coming here and facing a champion in my debut match. It’s a non-title match, but if I am able to defeat him it will be a huge step in the right direction of a future title opportunity either at this championship or another championship down the line.
Tony Rios: To be able to reach a point where you sign a contract with a Pro Wrestling Company, you must’ve been fighting and training to do it a lifelong. Higher ups must have seen something they liked in me I surely can be considered a rookie, from people that have been around for decades, but believe me when I say it. If a rookie, then I am a highly trained, highly skilled and highly talented.
Tony stops talking as a woman with short blonde hair enters the picture. Tony stares back at the screen and begins to speak.
Tony Rios: Hey, Kim. I have my first official match here in just a few days in a non-title match.
Kim looks over at Tony kind of unsure of what to say exactly.
Kim: That sounds good. I bet you are really looking forward to it.
Tony Rios: Of course I am it has been a little bit since I have been in the ring so its time to shake off the rust.
Kim: I am sure you will do fine sweetheart.
Tony Rios: I have no doubt that I will do fine, but fine isn’t really good enough for me. Fine isn’t good enough to win consistently and to achieve the goals that I am looking to achieve here in the NPW.
Kim: Yes, I understand that. However, you have to be realistic your opponent has wrestled more often as of late then you have.
Tony Rios: Yes, but I cannot allow myself to make that excuse because if I use that as a crutch then there will always be a crutch anytime I wrestle someone.

Settle down and raise a family is what I heard all those years ago. While I trained to become a wrestler, it was my motivation to eventually provide a good source of income for a good future for a possible family. Granted that is good and all that, but its not a guarantee of course. My plan was to create a stable income, save money, and find the right person to build a family with. Of course with all the sharks out there that are all about being with someone for their money a successful relationship is not easy to find, but nonetheless it is worth trying to find and building the foundation for. The thing about being in a new territory like that is that you want to start building these new big ideas, when sometimes the best course of action is to let things develop slowly and get a good feel on what happens.
