I sit here victorious. The Crimson Mask did not show up and frankly I do not know why. Management saw it fit to put me into a triple threat match. And I came out victorious. I am the King of the Streets for a reason. In the streets there aren’t any “fair fights”. Anything goes. You could be facing one, two, three, four opponents and you must do your best to succeed and win and back home in Israel, to live.
(David Berg has a chain wrapped around his waist. To that chain attached is a 50 pound dumbbell. Berg is doing pull ups and hits number 15 as his back muscles ripple. Berg jumps down and grabs a drink of water).
Berg: I am learning the landscape of UPW as I progress in my quest. I saw Public Nuisance not just defeat but torture a jolly as you Americans call it tag team. The crowd was bloodthirsty but even they felt badly for the beaten opponents in the end. I understand that in this business it is imperative to not only win, impress the fans but also to send a message. Public Nuisance certainly did that.
(Berg Pauses)
Berg: I wonder what message I am sending. Being so new it is refreshing to hear the roar of the fans. It is most exhilarating. It feeds the monster inside me that wants to fight and to win. I am looking forward to continuing to entertain the fans while facing the very best UPW has to offer. And I received my opponent for the next event.
(Berg Pauses and takes another sip of water)
Berg: Jack Ruby is a veteran. A 2nd generation wrestler. The master of the Iron Claw. He is also tag team partners with Pixi. I have watched Mr. Ruby compete and he seems to be an honorable man. A true American cowboy from here in Las Vegas. This more than likely means the fans will cheer for him and not for me. It will be an interesting battle to not only defeat someone who is not only more experienced than myself but also has the fan support behind them.
(Berg smirks)
Berg: This is yet another challenge that I must meet if I want to succeed in this business. Short term pain for long term gain my commanding officer used to say. A victory here would undoubtably send a message to UPW and to the wrestling world itself so I am definitely going to go above and beyond so secure the victory.
(A man walks into the gym. Standing about 6’4 and a solid build but not the build of Berg. He is an African American male with a shaved head. He looks at Berg and yells out).
Man: David Berg. King of the Streets. I am Rufus. I hear you a bad man. Come up here and show me.
(The man is wearing a black cut off T shirt, black shorts and black sneakers. He looks intimidating but not to the King of Streets).
Berg: You are?
Man: I told you, I am Rufus. Are you hard of hearing?
Berg: I really do not have time for this sir.
Man: I am told you’re the big up and comer. Your sport is a fraud and we all know Jews make better lawyers than fighters.
(The man laughs as Berg just shrugs. Berg adroitly hops into the ring and goes face to face with the man. Berg is tired from his workout but not too tired to kick the ass of this arrogant American. Harold Rosenstein the gym owner comes out and screams at the men to relax. Others in the gym are already looking on but there are only two young women in the corner, and older man on a mat doing sit ups and another younger man doing the jump rope).
Rufus: Yo Harold, easy there. Just want to see what this guy is made off.
Rosenstein: Not in my gym.
Rufus: You protecting him?
Berg: Who is this man?
Rosenstein: Meet Rufus Simons, Ft. Lauderdale PD.
Berg: Great…I am out.
Rufus: You going to cower out than “King of the Streets”
Berg: I am not playing this weird game.
(Suddenly Berg sees that Officer Simons is leveraging himself at the back of his heels, his arms drop ever so slightly as he lunges for a double underhook tackle. Berg quickly places his right hand forward hitting the back of the mans head and then pushing down hard as he moves to the left. The officer is persistent and unleashes a bevy of spin kicks at Berg, each Berg is able to block and dodge).
Rosenstein: Enough!
Officer Simons: I say when it is enough.
(I notice that Simons is trying to cut off the ring and unleash his right hand that he has yet to use. He is slow and sloppy. I watch as he unleashes a heavy right hand with the desire to connect with my jaw it seems but he is predictable. To his utter dismay, I duck and slip behind him and now I have him a in a sleeper choke. He tries using his elbows at my gut but the choke is deep and soon he passes out).
Rosenstein: WHAT DID YOU DO?!?!
Berg: He will be fine
(I wake up Officer Simons who hops up dazed. He glares at me as he regains his bearings).
Officer Simons: How did you do that? You were so quick and you are super strong. Like what?
Berg (shrugs): Your moves are predictable officer, sorry.
Officer Simons: My man. I am going to buy you a beer.
Berg: One. I have a contest to prepare for.
Officer Simons: How about you and I work out together. You show me some more of those moves.
(Berg and Simons shake hands. Just like in Israel so it is true in America. Before you become friends sometimes you have to fight. Maybe Jack Ruby and I could be friends? But first we will fight.
