Forgot this forum was here. I think I mentioned this before to someone and they explained why it wouldn't be done but I've forgotten the reason so...
I keep on checking out the event cards to remind myself how far away they are. Any chance of popping them into the calendar at the top of the forum? It might be handy also if future events were mapped out so members can notify show absences in advance.

This is probably a good idea. At least for global events a big part of it is that we're still mapping stuff out (my problem); but I think yeah, we could probably make a calendar with stuff like when AWF shows are and when the global shows "should" be.

I was thinking about this yesterday. Definitely would be a good idea if we can coordinate it.

Yeah, coordination is the key, and also the hardest part, lol. The Network schedule isn't too complicated since it only holds a few events a year; but getting AWF/GXW/WWA all set up too might be more sticky

Couldn't this easily be done with some overlapping google calendars? In like 10 minutes? NO I AM NOT VOLUNTEERING ...

The thing with the calendar is that when you go to add an event it wants you to link to a particular subforum for it to create a thread. Now I'm not entirely sure because I haven't tested it out but let's say I linked an event for Prestige 5. Would it create the prestige 5 thread now, or does it wait until the time the event is due to start?
A possible workaround for this is if we post our event dates on the calendar and link into a feedback subforum - it might be good to have a specific, dedicated and prominent forum for feedback rather than tucking it away in amongst the discussion boards. So then, even if it creates a thread for Prestige 5 right now, two weeks before the show is due, it's only up in the feedback forum ready for people to post their thoughts.
Otherwise I don't think it would be too complicated to post event dates. Just needs for everyone to be on the same page as to which forum to link to. A feedback board is my suggestion.

Last I heard, I think Kuroi is trying to join the Network and AWF calendar for us to post up. He's just been busy with some show or something

I admit when I suggested it I thought it would be like a google calendar for admins but yes it isn't that straightforward. An independent google calendar would work fine but honestly without the link at the top of the board I don't think people would use it. So either don't worry about it until the network expands and scheduling becomes a bigger issue or let's go with Steele's feedback forum pitch as that would kill two birds with one stone.

So I just had a look at the calendar (because I'm still thinking about it) and I created a test post.
The calendar is, really, pretty damn easy to use. Select a time, a date, and a subforum to post to. It looks like when you post an event then it DOES generate a thread in your chosen subforum - right now though I don't know if my test post is only visible to me as the creator, or to everyone. EDIT: everyone can see it.
With so many feds now in existence then I think this could be a good time to start using it really. For one it'll mean that the people who have monthly or bi-weekly events or shows on odd schedules can make sure they're not posting too close to another show if they want to ensure they have time to write AND roleplay. Secondly, it means idiots like me don't have to keep asking Kuroi "So how many weeks is EOD running over again???"
I think that if we use it (which we should) then the admins for each fed should maybe populate the calendar a month or two in advance with their shows, and just call them something simple like "AWF PRESTIGE 7" "XHF EoD Night 1" "TGK 3" etc - because this event name becomes the title for the thread that gets generated.
Secondly, we could probably do with a designated feedback subforum so we can just have these threads go straight into them instead of having them scattered throughout the Efedding subforum.
Thirdly, I would suggest that the admin who posts the event also LOCKS the thread when generated so that people don't start commenting on the wrong thing (because in theory, if there are threads posted for several upcoming shows that won't happen for a few weeks, someone WILL get it wrong and post there.) Obciously, unlock the thread once the show is posted.
Fourthwise, it might be an idea to code up T-Bone's feedback form (if that's the one people wanna use) and paste it into the thread so it's ready to go as soon as the thread is unlocked. Also include RP deadline maybe? Hell, you could even post match cards THERE instead of/as well as in the individual efed pages.
Thoughts? I think its a very simple system really and could make it easier for everybody to know exactly when each show is to be expected.

I'll take a look at this more carefully after the show goes up; but from my quick and tired skim it seems like the early part of your suggestion is excellent, but there's probably some unneeded streamlining for other parts.
What I'm saying is the calendar part is genius. We'll figure out how to make that work

Having said that, I'm not sure exactly how everything you describe works (especially since your test post didn't seem to do very much). HOWEVER, I absolutely think that if we can streamline things and make it easier for rpers then it's a move in the right direction. To that end Steele, just tell me what you need me to make (forum-wise) and I'll get it set up with the different staffs modded on it and we cans start building our calendar (as long as you lead the way because I still don't understand all the functions 100%, lol)

All we'd need forum wise is a new "Feedback" sub forum, I guess it would work best within the XHF Network Central forum since we already post feedback on there.
The test post wasn't really meant to do much other than see exactly what happens when an event is posted really lol. Events are easy to post too, it just looks a bit "WTF do I do?" At first glance.
