My game isn't ready but it can be ready in a week or so ... That would be awesome. If doing it during EOD is biting off more than you can chew, don't burn yourself out amigo. I can see Kuroi or Hype stepping up - but yeah, I'm totally down if you start one, and I know I'm not alone.

Dunne started this game in July. I think most of us saw the last month and a half as a break. I think the apathy is less for Mafia, and more specifically this particular game (while acknowledging that the next three ppl in cue to host are probably swamped). I know if a reliable host started a new one up, I'd sign up tomorrow. If everyone needs to take three more months to recharge, I get it - but I'd still pause things on a positive note, and not this carwreck. I have to disagree there. There's a lot of people who I've heard'/read said they were taking a break from Mafia (Robbie/Scorps come to mind), some others who seem frustrated with voting tactics (like Adrien) and I think Kris has just recently been having a rough time. I also know there aren't a lot of people who just don't have the fire they once had. For others, not too sure why. I know Kanyon/Draven/Mav/Vastrix/others used to play a lot and really haven't. Not too sure why. I personally found these games most fun back when we had like 15+ people. There were some games I've really wanted to mod too with well-established universes that needed larger people (South Park/Simpsons/Family Guy) but without the interest, I can't justify that.

I prefer 15+ games myself, my point is only that this particular game isn't the one we start an extended break with. Better to go out on a competent note, than abysmal failure. I wrote a fairly long counter argument, but at the end of the day - I don't host, and my hats off to the time you guys put in, so it's not my place to say. If Adrien is in flux, DT is about to undertake his busy season, you aren't happy with the numbers, then next in line is Hype. It's worth asking if he wants to run something soon, before writing off this section of the board till the new year.

I think both of you bring about good points.
For quite a few of us burnout was an issue. I know for me I needed a break and we hit a period where we were just running through the games at a breakneck pace it felt like. But generally I only need a break of like 1-2 games (usually longer after being scum). But I'd argue that there are other factors at play that neither of you brought up.
1. The Network board is just less united than it used to be. People who'd join the Network would join the Network as opposed to just one fed and being fiercely loyal to that fed (and avoid other ones or going around the board). This has been a growing issue for a couple years due to various issues and just another pendulum swing of what people are looking for in fedding. That said, I'd argue that something we might want to do is for more experienced Network members to form a committee about bringing more content into the OOC sections of the board in hopes of stirring up more curiosity from folks who currently don't venture outside their fed's walls. That'd help generate more people in the mafia section as well.
2. I don't know about you but to me the games got increasingly esoteric. When we started it was things like "wild west" and "monsters." Concepts everyone had knowledge on and could jump in with. As we played through them folks would bring in other things they liked, but maybe not get the audience they were hoping for- often times because it could be considered some kind of a niche concept. I like to rp my role so if I don't know what's going on at all I just stay away from the game entirely- which has happened many many times over the last couple years, lol. For example: I didn't have cable as a child, so Ed, Edd, n Eddy is absolutely meaningless to me and I would have been lost trying to jump in. The counterpoint from experienced players is "You don't need to know the flavor to play the game" but my counter-counterpoint is: If I don't need to know the flavor then what's the point of having a flavor to begin with?
Anyway I think "Put it off till next year" is way too extreme, especially since many of us have had a significant break at this point. But I do think there's a bit of rebuilding across the Network that we should probably brainstorm. Getting folks back into the global mindset as opposed to tribes of feds- at least in OOC areas.
It might be worthwhile for the next game to be somewhat more generic in theme to allow for more outsiders to jump-in.

If Ade & DT are preoccupied I'll host my Smackdown themed one soon. I'll be online a bit in October anyway (EoD and EoSummer) so I'm down. Otherwise if people need time away that's ok with me too, I'll wait and play when everyone is recharged.

Mongo, do you really want Hype turning in 10K a round? Force him to focus on this..... Also, what's a Smackdown? (Ha, Geoff doesn't follow wrestling and considers the theme esoteric. Classic.)

I was watching 205 Live for a while back before it became an NXT-offshoot. I think the last wrestling I watched was maybe some NWA or MLW nonsense.

I mean why watch wrestling when you can watch a bunch of middle aged strangers pretend to be wrestlers and piss each other off in the forums.
But taking it back to Mafia, I would be up to joining in on a faster paced, more generalized game. Much like Mongo, I did not know much about EE&E but volunteered anyway. I could see the game being more fun if I knew anything about the theme.

Maybe a couple of basic games could be in order? Ones with basic villagers and goons rather than role madness?
That said, I do love me some role madness. But I think next game I host will likely be Battle of the Bands III, as that's at least a subject where you don't need an in-depth knowledge, you just need to know an artist.
