Johnny Sniper and Gwen Holiday sit on the couch watching a TV, as their dog Henry lays curled up on the floor, with their twin boys laid out on a blanket next to him.
Sniper: “He’s really protective of them isn’t he?”
Gwen: “Just their father.”
Sniper cocks his head
Sniper: "And what's that supposed to mean?"
Gwen coyly smiles.
Gwen: "It means what I said it means."
Sniper: "Care to explain."
Gwen: "They often say that pets take after their owners, and the reason why Henry is the way he is. Is because you're protective. That dog would go into a burning fire for those boys, and you know it. And, you would do the exact same thing. But, that's the kind of person you are Jonathan. You would willingly give the shirt off your back for anyone in need. And at the same time, maybe that's your biggest weakness as well."
Sniper looks confused.
Sniper: "How can a good aspect? How can the idea of being a decent human being be a bad thing?"
Gwen: "It's simple, it's something that people can take advantage of.
Sniper: "Never thought of it that way, but you're right. It's very easy for people to take advantage of me, because of my kind nature. Which is weird I used to be a stone cold killer. I used to end human life with no remorse, maybe now that I'm no longer in the service. Maybe... just maybe that killer instinct. just left me. Maybe, that drive to end another person existence is no longer there. And... And trust me, I saw it. I saw the fear in men's eyes. Do you want to see a group of men panic? You want to see the fear of God enter another human? Take a group of men who are hell bent on killing you and your friends, and pick one of them off from half a mile away."
Gwen: "That actually does sound terrifying."
Sniper: "Yeah, it does, and I've been on both ends of that scenario."
Gwen sits back in her seat
Gwen: "So I hear you're facing a Spike Kane for the XHFHhardcore Championship."
Sniper: "Yeah, I am."
Gwen: Why go after that title? Go ahead tell me, I'm listening."
Sniper: "Let me ask you a question. When was the last time I actually went for a title? I mean, sure I gave Zoran a hell of a fight for the X*Crown, but that was an invite. I didn't actually challenge himm and why I may have come up short. Just the idea of competing for a championship brought back this feeling. That inspite of everything I've accomplished. There was something missing. I've only ever held on championship since I started this, and that was AWF United States Championship. And part of me, looking back at it now. Goes, did they just give me that belt because I actually deserved it? Or were they trying to like appeal to the veteran crowd? 'Cuz there are times where I look back, and I say to myself. I didn't really deserve that title. I got lucky, but I know luck not going to be enough to beat Spike Kane. Spike is a legend in this business. One of the best ever do it. One the toughest to ever do it, and I'm going to have to be better and tougher than him. It's going to take everything I have keep him down. And, I take nothing away from the man. That man has done it all."
Gwen chuckles.
Gwen: "Okay, I get it Kane has a resume as long as you are tall."
Sniper sits back in his chair lost in thought.
Sniper: "Here's the difference between me and everyone else who's ever gone after a title. And, I don't care if it's the X*Crown, or it's the Junior Heavyweight, the Tag Team, or the Hardcore Championship any of them. Any title and any Federation, most people sure they're trained to fight. But they try to get by with the spray 'n pray mentality, meaning their bullets are labeled 'to whom it may concern'. But me, I have a set hit list. I have a name of Target that I need to take out. My bullet has a name. And, it says right on the side of it, Spike Kane and it takes you out with one swift kick. Spike I've been through hell. I know what it's like and I'm willing to drag you through it. If that's what it takes to walk away champion. My plan is to leave Supremacy XHF Hardcore Champion. Your plan better be to find your teeth in a third row."
Gwen starts to laugh slightly causing Sniper to look at her.
Sniper: What's so funny?"
Gwen: "I'm sorry, babe. I really am. I... I shouldn't laugh at you, but he'll catch his teeth in the third row. You're sounding like my brother. And yes, I do keep in contact with him. He just had Cheez read him the riot act, and you're doing the exact same thing that he does."
Sniper looks a bit confused.
Sniper" What do you mean I'm doing the exact same thing your brother does?"
Gwen: "I didn't stutter. You are doing the exact same thing that Wilford does. It's the same thing he's done since he was a child, and it's probably something that you did when you were child. You talk a big game. You talk about how you're the best in the ring. And, how you're going to do this, and that to your opponent. But, when push comes to shove, your mouth writes checks your ass can't cash. Look I love you, and you know this. I mean for fucks, I had your kids. I want to marry you. I want to have a life together with you. But, there are times where I hear you talk all about your time in the military, and all.. All these things that you did. All these things that you saw. And my question is always been this. Why did you join? 'Cuz I know you didn't join to go to war. I know you didn't join to be a killer. I can see that in the way you act at home. You don't have that mentality."
Sniper: "No. No, Gwen I am a killer. I'm a born and bred killer. And the only reason why I don't act the way I did the military is..."
Gwen snaps back.
Gwen: "Oh really? Really? You're a killer. You're this feared man who, according to you, only thing holding him back from demolishing people is in real life is jail time. No, John, you were never a killer. You were only following orders. Because that's what military men do. You either follow orders, or you give them. That's how it works you give orders or you follow orders. Just like wrestling you either become a champion. Or you become the person the champion beats to build up his legacy. Those are your only choices. There is no gray area, it's black and white, plain as day. So you have to ask yourself this, and I seriously want you to think on this. Before you even step in the ring with Spike Kane. Do you really want to be XHF Hardcore Champion? Or, do you just want to be another win in his overall stat sheet?"
Sniper looks confused.
Sniper: "No, I was good. I was one of the best.
Gwen: "At following orders. See that's your problem you come up with this plan. And, how do you think things are supposed to happen in your match. And, when things don't go according to that plan. You fall apart. You need things to fall in order. Well this time instead of standing around and waiting for things to fall in order. I suggest you start putting things in order. You told me that you would not have our wedding until you held a title of major significance. Well this is your chance. I'm not waiting any longer."
Sniper: "What do you mean?"
Gwen: "Either two things happen at Supremacy either A.) You beat the ever living shit out of Kane or B.) You realize that maybe your goals right now, the ame one you had your entire career are far too lofty. Because while you're out chasing plastic rainbows. You risk losing the gold at the end of yours. You risk losing me and the boys."
Gwen leaves the room as Sniper sits there in stunted silence trying to grasp with the reality of what she just said as it sinks in he knows what he has to do.
Sniper: “He’s really protective of them isn’t he?”
