I didn’t mean for this to happen.
I didn’t want to be torn between my GUNS family and my mentor.
But here I am training with one of the most violent men on the planet and BEEF.
Don’t get me wrong, BEEF has a real shot at winning this with his size and my technique, but I actually have nightmares about being on Zoran’s bad side.
And that, that’s why I have to keep the two separate.
We open up inside a Starbucks in the early AM. Standing in line we see the young El Rey wearing sweats, a hoodie with hood up, and sunglasses to hide his identity from the commoners around him. We cut in tight as he waits in a line that doesn’t seem to be moving.
El Rey: Why didn’t I use the stupid app to order ahead?
El Rey mutters under his breath. He then flinches in fear as a figure appears next to him and responds to his rhetorical question.
Zoran: Because you do not zink straight without zee morning coffee.
El Rey: Jesus, where did you come from?
Zoran: After you were late to zee first training I decided it was time to find out what was more important than zee Rumble training.
El Rey: I’m not going to be late today, though, unless this line never moves.
Zoran: I see zat. But I must ask, should you be drinking zee sugary drink anyway?
El Rey let’s out a huge sigh and steps out of line.
El Rey: Fine. You’re right. We should get training. What’s it gonna be today? More hills at the park?
Zoran: No. We will run zee stairs, together.
The two former X*Crown Champions exit the coffee chain as we cut to another scene.
While my loyalties are split, I have one true goal, to make sure the X*Crown comes right back to GUNS.
I know that if Dylan retains Kira might let bygones be bygones and welcome him back into the J-Rok family, and I don’t trust Dylan as far as I can throw him. So, I’ll continue to play both sides here. I’ll continue to make BEEF an even bigger force than he already is. I’ll teach him how I managed to avoid elimination and nearly win even though I had the biggest target on my back. I’ll teach him how to use his underrated speed to his advantage, not just his size. I’ll do whatever it takes to keep the Crown as GUNS property.
Do I need to do the same for Zoran?
He doesn’t really need my help. Once he figures out I signed him up instead of me, he’ll dominate everyone in this match out of anger.
I just have to teach BEEF how to avoid being one of Zoran’s victims.
Back at the GUNS training center BEEF is standing in the ring looking very impatient. Magnus is sitting outside talking to the trainees prepping them for the days training when BEEF yells out.
BEEF: What are we waiting for? BEEF doesn’t need the help of the boss’ puny son to win this event.
Magnus turns from the trainees and towards the ring to address his bodyguard and right hand man.
Magnus: I know you don’t think you need him, but his experience is very valuable.
BEEF: Well where is he. BEEF is ready. BEEF doesn’t like to wait.
Magnus: He’ll be here. These Zoomers don’t run on the same time as us. Look, I think that’s him now.
Right on que El Rey walks in looking quite exhausted apparently from his training with Zoran. He walks up next to Magnus, grabs a water bottle off of the table next to him, and gulps it down.
El Rey: Alright, let’s get started. Send the first opponent in.
BEEF: No. BEEF needs to know why you’re late and why you look like you went 12 rounds with Pacquiao.
El Rey: I’m the XHF Junior Heavyweight Champion. I’ve got a match of my own at the Rumble. I have to train too.
Magnus: You see BEEF. He’s just working on himself first. Makes sense right?
BEEF reluctantly nods and Magnus motions for the first trainee to enter the ring.
El Rey: Now instead of tossing them like a rag doll, imagine this is someone to fear.
BEEF: BEEF fears no man.
El Rey: What if it’s Zoran wielding a knife?
BEEF: BEEF fears no man.
El Rey: Well let’s pretend you do and run and slide under the ropes.
BEEF: BEEF won’t fit under the ropes.
El Rey: Sure you will. The ropes bend. It will warp around you. You’ve gotta be just as evasive as you are strong. Now try it.
BEEF shakes his head in frustration and does what he’s directed to do.
El Rey: Great. Now get in the ring and try it again, but faster this time.
BEEF grunts in frustration, but does as he’s directed and we fade out.
BEEF has come a long way in a short time.
For a man in access of 300 pounds and in his mid 30’s he moves better than some of the guys I wrestled in high school.
His combination of speed and power are going to be a problem for everyone. No one quite matches up to his talents.
Cross? Not a chance.
Dylan? He’s got a lot, but not as much as BEEF.
Cheez? Donzig? Dunne?
BEEF could toss them all without breaking a sweat. When I finish with his training, all these men are going to wish they never signed up.
Earlier today we find El Rey and Zoran running the stairs like Zoran said, together. Only it’s not like El Rey or any of us would’ve expected. El Rey is running the stairs, but Zoran isn’t. Instead Zoran is strapped to his back like a backpack.
