Night of Champions 14 came and went just like an epic lightning bolt.
The throne of gold match was contested and Bloodied Fox was the one to sit on the throne and retain his XCrown Championship.
Not Steve Awesome.
And it hurt.
He wouldn’t make a big scene about it.
He wouldn’t give his haters that kind of satisfaction.
But it still stung. When you want something that bad, and you keep coming oh so close, it really starts to get frustrating.
But Steve wouldn’t give up. He knew there had to be another way to get the Crown for a third time.
We find the Face of the Franchise sitting alone in his attic. In his hands was the nCw Heavyweight Championship. He stared at it as if it were the only answer left. He missed at Supremacy, came up short at the Rumble, and got out foxed at Night of Champions. Maybe this was the only answer. His one on one shot. It would be so simple.
But as he stared at the shining title belt he caught his own reflection staring back at him and he started to have second thoughts.
“I couldn’t!…..Could I?”
The moment he shared with Leonard that night replays in his head, almost as a warning.
“But whatever you do, don’t let the nCw title and the company’s legacy become just another asterisk for the XHF XCrown title. It’s fine for other world titles that nobody cares about, but the nCw legacy was something special. I don’t want our family to lose that.
Leonard walked over and put his arm on Steve’s shoulder.
“I know I can count on you Steve.”
Steve nodded his head.
“I promise. I’ll never cash in the nCw Championship in for the XCrown.”
Leonard smiles and hugs him.
“That’s my boy! Good. Good.”
“Nah I can’t. I promised him.”
Steve said to himself and then started to put the old championship back into storage. Though, an evil thought stopped him.
“But I mean….nobody else was there to hear it….”
Steve grew an evil grin as he stared into the centerpiece of the title.
“Here you are!”
The sudden voice and appearance of Zelda Knite startled the face of the franchise and he quickly returned the title to its storage box so she wouldn’t see what he was looking at.
“What are you doing up here?”
“Uh nothing devious that’s for sure. I’m just looking at old stuff Heh heh…”
Zelda pulled up a chair and sat next to him.
“Well I came up here because I wanted to say I’m sorry you didn’t get to do very much training like you wanted to last week for the XCrown match.”
Steve shook his head.
“No, no, it’s all good, Z. I probably wouldn’t have been able to train knowing Leonard was lost out there somewhere. I’m just glad we finally found him and he’s safe in the hospital. To be honest, I probably made winning the Crown one last time more of a big deal then it needed to be.”
Zelda shook her head.
“Look, I know how much it all meant to you. And I’m just sorry that it didn’t work out due to situations beyond our control. You know?”
She wraps her arms around Steve and hugged him tight.
“But it’s far from over. Night of Champions wasn’t your last chance.”
Steve nodded his head but his eyes stared at the box that held the nCw Championship. There was another chance but could he really pull the trigger?
Could he really go against the wishes of a man he considered to be a father figure?
Was he really -that- desperate?
“I mean there is always End of Days.”
Steve stopped staring at the box and slowly realized that she had a point.
“Hey you’re right. End of Days would be way better then what I was thinking! Thank you Z”
Zelda opened her mouth to ask but Steve planted a kiss on her. Steve shoved the box that held the ncw title away with his free arm.
He’d win the XCrown Title back at End of Days.
Fade.
