“If I am a small fish
Then whales are sardines!”
The place, a dimly lit room, is engulfed in silence. He sits in a chair, close to a small wooden table, near a small window. Leaning back, on the chair, he stares holes in front of him. All that can be seen from his face are his eyes. The rest is covered in a white lynx mask.
“If I need to make an impact
Then freight trains hitting you are nothing more than a mosquito sting.”
He leans forward, elbows resting on his kneecaps, and looks at the concrete below his shoe soles.
“I do not need to make an impact. I do not need more fame or success than I already have achieved. What I need is to teach a lesson to people who think they are God's Gift to Wrestling, a lesson in humility. Because you might be good, might have been champions, but there are better fighters out there and you know it.
I walk this path with humility because I know that beatdowns wait around every corner and if you just emanate narcissism and think you are better than anyone or anything, you will never be able to justify your downfalls. Too many a time have I seen people whose gimmick was “I can’t be Defeated”, kiss the mat and never get up from their beatdowns.
Anyone of us knows that even if he is good, there might be better fighters out there in a given day, in a given moment. And if you think you have nothing to learn anymore from the fights in front of you, then you are doomed to mediocrity or calling it quits.”
Lynx leans back, forearms behind his head, and stares at the ceiling. He pauses for a few seconds and then resumes his speech.
“I am a former World Champion
A Hall of Famer
But I still know that I have almost everything to learn from the fights in front of me. That’s the only way to success, the only way to better yourself. I go into every fight with humility in my heart because I know that even a rookie, a kid standing in front of you, can teach you a thing or two about fighting, in his good days.
There is no such thing as an unbeatable man. There’s something called an undefeatable fighter though. A fighter who never quits in the face of adversity. A fighter who stands up over and over again, after having been thrown on the mat one too many times. A warrior who stares defeat in the eyes and learns from every dark moment.”
The white mask enlightens the surroundings. Or is it the light from his eyes? Is it so that light beats the darkness around him, or is it our impression because of his “Never Say Die” attitude?
“You people need to learn a thing or two about modesty. And I am here to make so that you learn it, or go down in doom, without being able to better yourselves as fighters and human beings. This fight is a special one, not because LD is stupid “Special”, he only acts as such, but because you people either get what is at stake here or go down without a clue about what just happened. And if you get it, well that’s good for you and the WUK as a whole. If you do not get it, you just lose as the losers you are in every losing moment of your loser's existence.
I alone would be enough to teach you a tale of resilience, but what do you know; I have other four behind me who can beat you clueless narcissi into a bloody pulp every given day of the week. So, you asshats better get ready to have a fight for your existence in here, or you go down without even being able to blink. “
Lynx stands up from the chair, turning his back to us, and goes towards the small window, throwing a glare at the lights coming in from outside. Silence engulfs the place for some seconds until his voice fills the surroundings again.
“A great fight stands in front of you people
A great fight stands in front of us.
I would be a fool not to recognize this one as such. You jerks are championship caliber, after all, I would be ignorant not to understand this. I never said you all are not good fighters, I said that if you do not learn, you are doomed and that if you go into this fight without being able to comprehend that we can teach you a thing or two, you are predestined to failure.
That’s all I said
And I took a minute or ten to do so.
I spoke my mind, I exhausted my air time, and now it’s action time. Fighting time.
See you in the ring, amigos.”
Fade.
