Hi All,
So, I'm going to attempt to keep a game diary in here. Probably updated monthly but with input from yourselves at various points...like now, help me pick a game. I've got some details on each option below.
1970 - All Japan Women's Wrestling
User character: Reiko Yoshiba
Money: $500000
Size: Small
Story: Reiko Yoshiba is a part of the family that runs the All Japan Women’s Pro-Wrestling promotion as she's the younger sister of the five Matsunaga brothers who have led the way in women's professional wrestling, better known as joshi puroresu. The Matsunaga's had gained a measure of fame for promoting "Ju-Ken shows" (judo versus boxing) which is a form of mixed martial arts and featured women before becoming some of the most successful promoters of professional wrestling in not only joshi puroresu but Japanese wrestling period. Learning judo from her siblings from an early age, Yoshiba eventually moved into the family business in 1955 and made her debut for the All Japan Woman’s Pro Wrestling Association, which was a precursor to the AJW as we know it today. Taking her ring name from a popular yokozuna of the time, Reiko Yoshiba retired in 1968 but continues to help out her brothers backstage and has one eye on her daughters career.
In-built Game goal: Push Kyoko Okada as the 1970's Rainmaker and become a Major Star in all of Japan because nepotism
Pros: Only pure fed for women
Cons: Small pool likely to only get smaller as other, bigger companies tie down talent to exclusive contracts before we can do similar
ROSTER
1970 - Stampede Wrestling
User Character: George Gordienko
Money: $1000000
Size: Medium
Story: Working in Calgary for Stampede Wrestling off and on for many years, Gordienko befriended Stu Hart. Having briefly been associated with a communist party which resulted in him being arrested for distributing communist literature, George was deported and sent back to Canada. Having further success in Europe, the Middle East, India, Australia, New Zealand and South America, George Gordienko probably doesn't get the crowd appreciation his in-ring ability deserves but ask other wrestlers and they'll tell you he's a truly special talent.
In-Game Goal: Build a Four Horseman style stable (four national stars) who are all using a Russian or Communist gimmick.
Pros: Robinson is one of the best mat wrestlers going, Billy Graham is a charisma machine if he develops well, and then there's the Dungeon
Cons: Demanding fanbase wants a technical masterclass and a steal the show match on every event which will dictate the workers we want (especially if they need to be over)
1983 - World Class Championship Wrestling
User Character: Kevin von Erich
Money: $400000
Size: Small
Story: We all know the rough story but here we go. WCCW has three brothers ridiculously over in their home state but also three brothers who love to party. Fritz managed to make these go away with bribes and political machinations but that still leaves them on booze, pills, and hard drugs. Can we avert the Iron Claw arc?
In-Game Goal: Get the von Erichs clean and over outside of Texas. Part of this goal is to build up heels for them with the threat of WWF/JCP going National.
Pros: Some great foreign talent to go with the Freebirds and Von Erichs
Cons: WCCW is a 'free zone' for drugs
1983 - Polynesian Pro Wrestling
User Character: Rocky Johnson
Money: $100000
Size: Tiny
Story: Despite the retcon job on Young Rock, PPW was a small fish in a large pond by this point. There are some high points like having Don Muraco and Mando Guerrero (because Mongo insists on a Guerrero in every game I play) but then there is the simple fact that expansion hurt this company IRL.
In-Game Goal: Develop at least four main eventers at National level who are from the Hawaiian region
Pros: Seiji Sakaguchi from NJPW, Giant Baba from AJPW, Muraco pre-WWF run, and the original Hollywood Blondes give a solid base. NWA link allows for stars to come in and be made from our side.
Cons: Broadcasting in Hawaii doesn't carry the same 'spillover' as other territories so slow growth expected unless we acquire companies
1990 - All Star Wrestling (UK)
User Character: Steven Regal
Money: $500000
Size: Small
Story: In 1988, Gregg Dyke cancelled World of Sport and ended a traditional TV staple of the last twenty-odd years. The decision came about when American wrestling could be put on instead and make money for ITV. It wasn't just WWF but also Florida, Memphis, AWA, and World Class that were shown and paid the station to do so. With the cancellation came the inevitable starvation of UK companies and by 1990 you had Big Daddy still being booked, but no-one caring.
In-Game Goal: Win Match and PPV of the Year
Pros: Dave Finlay, Doc Dean, Mark Rocco, Robbie Brookside and Steven Regal provide a solid backbone to build on
Cons: Giant Haystacks is probably the most popular of the rest that are either too old, too slow, or too out of shape to build beyond the immediate with.
