Dunne is in the middle of an intense workout at the gym, lifting heavy weights and grunting with each rep. The sound of clanging metal and upbeat music fills the air. Sweat drips down his forehead as he focuses on his form. His phone, perched on a nearby bench, buzzes with an incoming video call. Dunne wipes his face with a towel and accepts the call, revealing Cheez, who is casually strolling through the aisles of a game store, headphones around his neck and a basket full of gaming accessories.
Cheez: (grinning) “Yo, Dunne! Or should I say, Dunbar?”
Dunne: (rolling his eyes) “Not you too, man. It’s Dunne. How many times do I have to say it?”
Cheez: “Hey, you’re the one who spilled the beans about your real name, Wilford. Still can’t believe it’s not actually Wellington. Sounds so… regal.”
Dunne: (with a sigh) “Yeah, well, that’s the point. But enough about that. We need to focus on our match against the Dark Stars. Those guys are serious business.”
Dunne switches to a bench press, his muscles tensing as he lifts the bar. He’s clearly trying to stay focused, but Cheez, walking past a display of new releases, is more relaxed.
Cheez: “Serious business? C’mon, man. Did you hear their promo? They’re acting like they’re in some sci-fi movie, talking about ‘gladiatorial brutality’ and ‘no extra lives.’ They sound like they’re trying to be the final boss in some video game.”
Dunne: (grunting as he pushes the bar up) “Yeah, and that’s exactly why we need to be prepared. They’re not just talking—they’re planning on taking us out, and they’re not going to play fair.”
Cheez: (smirking as he picks up a copy of the latest game) “Fair? In wrestling? Please. Besides, I think you’re getting too worked up, Dunbar—sorry, Dunne. You know they’re just trying to mess with our heads, right?”
Dunne: (pausing between reps, looking serious) “Maybe. But they’re not wrong about one thing—you do get a little too caught up in the games. I need you in this match, Cheez. Focused.”
Cheez: “Hey, I’m focused! Just because I enjoy a little bit of Mario Kart doesn’t mean I’m not ready to kick some ass in the ring.”
Dunne: (smirking) “Right. Just don’t try to throw a banana peel at them or something.”
Cheez: (laughs) “No promises, but I’ll try to keep it to actual wrestling moves.”
Dunne sits up, grabbing a water bottle and taking a long drink. His expression turns more serious as he looks at the camera.
Dunne: “Seriously though, Cheez, these guys… they’re dangerous. They’ve got a point about my temper, too. I know I can lose it out there, and that’s when mistakes happen. I don’t want to give them any openings.”
Cheez: (nodding, more serious now) “Yeah, I get it. I’ve been thinking too. I know I joke around a lot, but I know when to get serious. I’m not just gonna leave you out there to do all the work.”
Dunne: (leaning forward, intense) “Good. Because I’m tired of everyone thinking I’m some hothead who can’t think straight. I’m more than that. And I’m definitely not some cheap knockoff of this Lee guy they keep bringing up. We need to go out there and show them who we really are.”
Cheez: “Exactly. We’re not just another team they can steamroll. We’re Tilted Cartridges, man. And if they think they can tilt us, they’ve got another thing coming.”
Dunne: (smirking) “Tilted, huh? I like that. They want to talk about games? Let’s show them how we play.”
Cheez: “And when they try to pull their little tricks, we’ll be ready. They’re expecting me to be all fun and games, but when I’m in that ring, it’s a whole different story. And you? You’re gonna keep your cool and make them regret every time they underestimated you.”
Dunne stands, rolling his shoulders and cracking his neck, the intensity in his eyes unmistakable.
Dunne: “They want to make this a fight? Fine. But they’re not the only ones who can get brutal. When we’re done with them, they’ll wish they’d never crossed us. We’ll show them exactly what it means to mess with the Tilted Cartridges.”
Cheez: “Damn right. We’ll give them a game over they’ll never forget.”
Dunne chuckles, the tension in his expression easing slightly as he nods.
Dunne: “Game over, huh? I like that. But first, let’s make sure we’re both ready. I’ll finish up here and meet you back at the hotel. We’ll go over the strategy one more time.”
Cheez: “You got it. Just don’t overdo it, man. We need you in top shape, not worn out before the match.”
Dunne: (grinning) “Don’t worry about me. I’m just getting warmed up.”
Cheez gives a mock salute, grabbing a new release from the shelf as he heads toward the register.
Cheez: “Cool. I’ll see you soon. And Dunne?”
Dunne: “Yeah?”
Cheez: “Let’s make sure they know who they’re dealing with. No more underestimating us. No more thinking we’re just here to play.”
Dunne: (nodding) “You got it. We’re here to win.”
With that, Dunne ends the call, his focus back on the weights as he starts his next set, while Cheez heads to the checkout, a determined look on his face. The scene fades as they each prepare in their own way, ready to take on the Dark Stars with everything they’ve got.
