Too late to tell you now, one ear and right out the other one
'Cause all you ever do is chant the same old mantra
────────── ✦ ──────────
Wexford Park.
To those on the outside, everyone will know it as Chadwick’s Park but to those locals? To those that live within this very small town in Ireland? It’ll always be Wexford Park, no matter how many times it might find itself changing names. Today, it was emptied and still one whole week away from the takeover by Wrestle UK to host it’s War in Wexford event. Headlined by one man taking centre stage in the middle of it’s pitch, headlined by the hometown man on his last ever journey to this small town as a professional wrestler.
Jason Long, standing at the centre of the pitch, right where every match kicks off in this very park.
“The truth being told is that I came to Wrestle UK with one goal in mind: to take the X*Crown Championship away from Donzig and run around the world, through every promotion that I can around the network, and hold it until I can’t no more — perhaps, eventual retirement will follow.
For whatever reason he might want you to believe, Donzig doesn’t want that to happen on respectable terms. A ‘new god of wrestling’ would rather become cowardly, find another person to add to the match, and expect himself to use that as his get-out-of-jail card when I can’t complete my career before it ends. Looking for a loophole if he can’t find the necessary needs to truly beat me. But, why? See, I’d like to know the answer to that question myself because it doesn’t make sense.
Sure, your argument can be made up with Dominicus being the former Wrestle UK World Champion or whatever but you know that’s not what Donzig was thinking about when he wanted to put the challenge out there for his championship. In his eyes, he’s lessened his odds but also increased them. More people? That’s fine, he doesn’t need to pin me in order to say he’s beaten me. Typical antics, typical behaviour from the likes of himself.
You should’ve just admitted it, Donzig. You’re a coward in disguise.”
He began to tut away to himself.
“Tell me, Don. Has anything you believed is in your favour gone your way for the greater good? Has Donzig used a ‘cheat code’ and became successful because of it? Has he found himself fighting on the front lines and exploited his way to monarchy? You’ve spent years of your time here doing exactly that and I know it, you know it, the whole fucking world knows it. Living in using corruption and deceit but unable to truly possess it for your own sake.
You hold onto a grudge against me from so long ago that I’ve almost forgotten about it because the truth is? I never cared about what I had done to you, I never cared about how you might’ve felt being left to die back then, and the same can be said today as well. For me, this fight is not about you — about proving a point that I was right to leave you to the wolves, about how deep into your lies and bullshit we’ve all needed to dig ourselves into to make sense of you — but it’s about what you possess. What you hold dearly onto.
The X*Crown.
The only reason why I stand here right now in the middle of my hometown again. The only reason that, for the second time in my career, I fight in front of everyone and anyone that lives in these streets that I have walked through since birth. I have no issue standing here right now and holding onto the hope of being crowned again in the heart of this town but I wanted to drag one body through the streets to dump over the bridge, not two.
Dominicus, I don’t wish to look down upon you. To be honest, I don’t want to knock down any of your abilities because I know the work you’ve done over the years. Junior Heavyweight Champion for a good while, Wrestle UK World Champion until very recently – but let’s be honest with ourselves here. Donzig had no right in calling you into this match and you know why he wanted you here as well. Decrease odds, increase ways of surviving. I wouldn’t be asking you to make sure, if you’re putting anyone down, it’s going to be him.
However, the door is open for that.”
Jason shrugged his shoulders, a slight smirk appearing on his face.
“And whilst you have been carrying the entirety of this promotion on your back? It’s a promotion that I’d never truly want to carry around unless I’ve lost the bet where the worst punishment in the world is becoming Wrestle UK’s hero. I’m only roaming around here right now because this is the one place Donzig decided to fuck off and hide in. You’ve held onto the Wrestle UK World Championship and it’s the richest prize that there is right now after having great former champions like... Billy Fowler and Eddie Havok.
Yikes.
Whilst you might honour yourself as being original and what not, at least I’m not the laughing stock or the butt of every joke that there is. Being here? That’s one. Holding a championship that means really nothing? That’s two. Being used as the scapegoat for someone when they make an attempt at surviving and holding onto the real richest prize ever? That’s three strikes, Dominicus, and you’re out of luck now. Again, I have to reiterate for you and for everyone watching. You shouldn’t have been added to this because it wasn’t a fight for you to begin with.
It was never your battle, it was never your fight, because all of this? This was between me and Donzig, nobody else, nobody else should’ve been added into the mix but that stupid fucking bald-headed idiot made that mistake. You have to be another body added to the count, you have to be added in as collateral damage for what’s to come. And what makes it worse for you?
It’s that I don’t think you know exactly what you’ve found yourself involved in.”
A look of concern along his face, mixed in with a fierce look of anger in his eyes.
“The two of you are stepping into the heart of where I was born, of where I lived and breathed for so many years, and a place that I know like the back of my fucking hand. Any street, any side-path, anywhere you want to place yourself? I know where you are. In this town, there’s no place to hide from me. In this town, you are walking in as public enemy number one. In this town, I am at my strongest. Hell, anywhere in Ireland? I am at my strongest. Truth be told, I have never ever lost in front of my people and for the crown, that fact will not change. That statement will remain true until my dying breath and neither Donzig nor Dominicus will take that from me.
I have walked into Wrestle UK as an outsider looking for one man, and one man only. Next week, seven days from now, the two of you have become the outsiders. The two of you are dead men walking. For it’s honour, I will defend this town with all of my heart, black or not.”
He began to pound his fist to his chest—to where his heart resided.
“And I will take everything — EVERYTHING — that you have to offer for me. For the family of mine that will watch in the stands of this park, for the friends of mine that have remained in this town and supported me through everything that I’ve put myself into for all of these years – I am going to become X*Crown Champion once again, complete everything that I wish to do before it is time to say my final goodbyes, and ensure that I have filled in the darkened void missing from my career—the hole that was punched in the day that Zoran Sainovic took everything from me.
No matter what you’ll say, no matter what you’ll tell me, no matter how you look to knock me off my game or look to hurt me in any way – shape or form – it’ll always be the same old story told again and again, repeated one too many hundred times. The form of a fucking mantra will not be the death of everything that I fight for but I can ensure you that there will be one you will have to accept, one you will forever hear until you breathe for the last time.
Words that will haunt you after November 18th.
And new.”
Cut.
