BIOGRAPHY
The following has not been confirmed by “D”. When asked about his past, “D” only responded with “Of course…one day I will reveal the truth to the masses…when they are ready to be saved.”-At this point “D” broke into a near hysterical fit of laughter, a laugh that made our reporter so uncomfortable, that he decided it was time to leave- the following is based on what we have been told by “D’s” fans, rumors circulating throughout the wrestling world and public knowledge of the career of a man who refers to himself as an enigma…
The enigma known only as “D” is a practitioner of Haitian Vodou. Rumor has it that once “D” was a typical, fearless frat boy, no real goal in life, a college student majoring in laziness. That was until a fateful trip to New Orleans in 2004. It’s said that during a drunken walk through the city during Mardi Gras “D” stumbled into a rougher area of the city, where he was attacked by a couple of gang members. Beaten and robbed, it’s been said that a broken “D” pulled himself through an alley to the nearest door before passing out. As fate would have it, he had found salvation in a, run down, smoke filled hovel, the home of a Vodou Priestess, Madame Belle. Madame Belle took in the young man and cared for his wounds and once he awoke, she told the frat boy that the spirits had sent him to her by no co-incidence.
She continued, saying she sensed great power in the young man and noted that despite the beating he had taken, no bones were broken and told him that his destiny awaited him “under the brightest of lights.” Madame Belle went on to tell “D” of Haitian Vodou, and about how the more commonly known term of “voodoo” was a watered down practice, something more akin to a cartoon then the actual art. Intrigued, but skeptical, the young man thanked his rescuer, gathered up what little strength he had, and left to seek medical attention.
As he was leaving he heard Madame Belle say “you’ll be back young one, ya can-na out run ya destiny forever”. Maybe it was the drinking, maybe the old woman scared him, maybe it was the mild concussion he received from the two punks that jumped him, but they say that something changed in the young man that day.
A full year passed before ‘D’ returned to New Orleans, before he returned to the alley where he was attacked. He hated to admit it as he gazed upon the door, but the woman was right. As he reached for the door, it opened and there was Madame Belle, standing there as if she’d been expecting him, with a coy smile on her face “decided ta stop runnin’ from ya destiny at last…have ya young one?” she said, “then let us begin ya path to the truth.”
The first challenge “D” faced was getting past the perception that Vodou is evil. Evil is a concept, a perception, not a truth. Murder is, by definition evil, however the murder of a tyrant can set people free and as a result be seen as a good act. “D” learned his lesson well, too well perhaps, as he has since become obsessed with the ‘truth’ – burying concepts like good and evil, and right and wrong in favor of individual choice and freedom of expression.
In fact, “D’s” obsession with the truth has consumed him to the point where he insisted that his height and weight are recorded to the nearest decimal place. This makes “D” interesting to watch in the ring as he is not afraid to risk his own body to get the win; this combined with his technical skills make him a dangerous and unpredictable opponent. H
is “Twisted Truth” finisher has left many an opponent lying on the mat, staring at the lights, wondering what the “truth” really is. After becoming ordained as a follower of Vodou and completing his in-ring training, he adopted the name “D” and has never looked back. Rumors circulate that he has no known relatives, and no records that he ever existed prior to his return to New Orleans in 2005…but these are all unfounded rumors as of printing. Perhaps the letter ‘D’ is a link to this enigma’s past?
What we know to be true about “D” –
He debuted in late 2008 in GwF and quickly rose through the ranks and became a challenger for GwF’s Pride Championship. This was where he met his first major enemy in a man known as “The Commodity”…Jake Slade. Shortly after tasting his first true defeat while challenging Slade for the Pride title, GwF closed, leaving the rookie Enigma without a place to wrestle and hone his craft.
Slade wound up in CWX, however the owner, Enforcer felt that “D” wasn’t up to CWX’s standards at that time…however, Enforcer had a counter offer… This became a blessing in disguise, Enforcer’s counter offer was to instead sign “D” to LCW, Lightning Championship Wrestling, of which Enforcer was a member of the management team.
For the better part of the next year, “D” went from unknown rookie, to tag team champion along side Super Maniac and formed a well known group in LCW, The New Dawn. All this on the way to his greatest victory, defeating Jason Blade for the LCW World Championship…but all good things come to an end.
With sales decreasing, LCW announced it was closing. At the final show, “D” with the returning Super Maniac re-united as The New Dawn one final time to defeat Jony Roberts and Royal Powerhouse to be crowned the final LCW Tagteam Champions. However, rather than accept that great honor; the team of The New Dawn instead decided to return the belts to the LCW fans, crowning those in attendance the final LCW Tagteam Champions.
After the closing of LCW, “D” drifted from place to place, including an unmemorable and brief stop in CWX. Eventually “D” ended up with two positions, as in-ring competitor/owner in IWC, and an in-ring competitor in PWE. The dual role matured the Enigma and he learned valuable lessons about the business in IWC and continued his success in the ring in PWE, becoming it’s first and to this date, only Phoenix Rising Champion…then things began to spiral for “D”.
The woman known to most as Madame Belle was one of the many lost and presumed dead during the Haiti earthquake in early 2010. Combined with the closing of PWE and difficulties maintaining IWC, “D” simply vanished…until he arrived in Genesis.
The enigma rose quickly and soon became a title holder in the high flying Daredevil Division, before moving on to capture the Genesis Worldwide Championship.
The years that followed saw the enigma become one of the staples of Genesis, capturing practically every title in the company, engaging in memorable matches and feuds with the likes of Sam Hershey Matt Saunders, Jason Speck, Christian King, Thunderstrike Kid and Kintaru, and even winning the inaugural Festival of Fights Tournament. By doing so, the trophy awarded to the winner of the yearly tournament still bears the name given to it by “D”…The Heart of Genesis.
Following the closing of Genesis, “D” has only appeared a handful of times, most notably as a surprise opponent to challenge Chris Parsons for the GwF World Heavyweight Championship and a one night RSW appearance to battle Kintaru once more.
Though unseen and unheard from for many months, one has to wonder if the Enigmatic Vodou Warrior will ever return to the ring…and if he does, can he recapture the success he had achieved before disappearing into the shadows?
