THE PEACEMAKER
G A U N T L E T O F T H E G O D S
Two robotic guards stood outside an important function building, their shiny red armour glistening under the hot blazing triplet suns. The town was deserted, not ravaged by the Infinity Realm Wars of past but abandoned due to the inhumane condition the three suns set upon the planet. The perfect place for a hideout – unmarked on the maps of history, unspoken of in the legends of times gone-by.
But hiding what, and who – that is the question. Stood inside beyond the rusty scraps of metal and armoured plating, a man clad in red robing. Ironic, the hottest place in all the realms and yet the only man to live there dresses as though they are ready for endless winter. Maybe they are – coldness is on the horizon, ready to freeze the three suns into a tundra – but coldness doesn’t always mean nature, so who’s to say this blizzard won’t be man-made.
In the man’s hand a relic of the past – A gauntlet made of the finest gold, not your standard gold, no – the likes of which used to be the skin for a god, before it shredded – becoming the architect of the Infinity Realm Wars – becoming DARK in nature.
What was so important about it though? An importance so vital it must be hidden in the most baron of places -not just in its current realm, but all the realms together.
Could it be that this weapon put an end to the war altogether? Could it be that this glove made of golden god put an end to the 1000-year conflict?
Could it be, this was the Peacemaker after all?
A loud bang reached red robe’s ear, his eyes darting towards the door in fright. Someone was here, the Peacemaker had been found.
Wielding such a weapon instantly made the holder a god, but red robe refused to put it on – the power of Gods can corrupt mere mortals, and it was not in his place, as the guardian of the Peacemaker, to become corrupted. Instead he relied on the prowess of his robots to stop the intruder, after all they were the best in the realm – or so he was told.
Two more loud bangs, red robe began to feel queasy, his knees buckling at the thought. Quickly he ran to the far side of the room, punching in a string of numbers into a keypad positioned on the left to a large metallic door. The bolts whirred and whizzed as it heaved its way open – quickly he darted in, not looking back for an instant. As soon as they opened, they whirred their way to a close – leaving nothing but dust to dance through the stale air.
Silence.
The bangs had come to a stop.
Red robe awaited transmission from his robots, a reassurance of victory that the intruder was compromised – but the longer he waited, the more the silence killed.
Finally, a bleeping over the intercom, red robe sweating heavily from the ordeal opened his eyes, and more so his ears, awaiting confirmation – but nothing, nothing but static – this was it.
This was the end.
This was the end.
The sounds of footsteps echoed in the halls beyond the large metallic door where red robe had just been. The intruder was in. All red robe relied on now was the strongest metal known to man – surely he was safe, there was no way in for any living thing – once the keypad had been activated and the door opened, it sealed itself shut for the rest of time. Red robe was trapped in this room, as was the sacrifice one makes when guarding the Peacemaker. He was safe – locked in forever, but safe.
The footsteps approached closer and closer to the door, red robe’s breathing becoming heavier with every in-take of stale dusty air.
A small cackling could be heard. Sadistic, evil cackling. Then English, perfect English – so, so perfect.
Long I have waited.
The voice went silent again as red robe opened a box, carefully placing the Peacemaker inside – attempting to remain as silent as possible. As though he could pretend, pretend he was never there to begin with – but the voice would not be fooled, no matter how hard he tried.
An eternity lock, interesting.
The sound of fingers running down the metal shook red robe to the core – he reassured himself that he was safe, that there was no way in – but the sound of the intruder even touching the metal made one’s heart sink into his chest.
You will never enter, intruder – give up now – As soon as I accessed this door a distress signal was relayed to all guardians! You will be compromised! Mark my words!
The voice cackled once more, this time louder and melancholy.
Oh, dear friend, how I wish that were true.
The intruder grasped both hands on the door.
But wishes are make-belief.
The whizzing and whirring kicked in as the metal began sliding to an open. Red robe collapsed to his knees out of disbelief, ripping the robe off, he gazed his eyes upon his downfall. He gazed his eyes upon death itself.
And I, Jefe.
And I, Jefe.
