So I thought all of us could say a word or two about how the AWF has changed us or what we got out of it. A lot of you have been doing something on Discord. This way, we could remember it. All of you are invited to share something.
For me, it was Spring of 2017. I've been part of the MafiaScum forums where we've been playing the game that we love now, Mafia. There, a lot of people have actually been intimate with e-fedding at one point or another. Funny coincidence. That's actually how I found MafiaScum. Originally, shortly after the XHF originally closed, I was on a place called the RoughKut forums. They acted as a network as well actually. They had a collection of e-feds and would chat about stuff, give tools and tips on stuff like making a character or running a fed. We played Mafia games and I was first introduced over there. I found out about MafiaScum there.
At that time, I've been itching like hell to e-fed. It's been about a decade at that time since I was last doing it, and I found some people who were interested. While they kinda dropped off, my fire was still there and hot. I chatted with Greg, and we started the AWF. I was also lucky to find that Mongo had the same thoughts and wanted to go back to e-fedding. This was a huge coincidence in my mind.
It was a unique experience for a few reasons. First off, it was my first time doing this for a LONG time. I had these doubts through my mind. "Can I still write?" "How's my ring rust?" and for some reason, this last question was most pressing through my mind - "Do I even know my characters anymore?"
I just dove in. I refused to look behind me. I dreamt of what I wanted to do and theme the fed, and I found fed ideas in short supply. Everyone wanted hardcore, I'd go the other way. I then thought of a justification to make it work. Use a character from the XHF, who left, and make up a reason why he left. Felix (then Fezzik) was a nice guy, but got pushed in an area where he couldn't be nice, and he grew a disdain for it. He's basically the Chris Nowinski of the XHF in a way.
Then there were some fun parts, which is explaining the lapse of time. After all, time never stops. Michael Storm became an investor and Kuroi got black listed for most feds for being unworkable and ended up being forced to work for a pizza place to pay the bills.
But what did the AWF do for me?
The AWF revived my love of e-fedding. It brought me to a community. It made me part of it, and we could share ideas. Storylines. Feuds. We could have serious moments and comedic ones, both in character (Viper, Ember, Ognom, King Edmund) and out of character (radio chats, shit posting).
The AWF helped exercise my creative muscles and gave me pride in something I could share with others. I learned a lot about e-fedding, fed heading and admin skills like PR, HR, conflict management and time management, among many others. I learned how to be part of a team with many others. I had to find out how to select great team members, and how to deal with difference of opinions, and I feel that I probably disagreed with many of the admins at one point or another. Sometimes a lot, sometimes a little.
I was also able to learn new skills and apply those skills as it relates to the AWF. (Mongo tells me this a lot - if I want to learn something and it will help me in e-fedding, I'll do it.)
tl;dr, the AWF made me a happier person. Thank you.
Oh and Mongo, if you're reading this, please post that picture of, "Quitting e-fedding and other jokes you can tell yourself." That totally applies here. We all come back home sometime.
