The haunted house movie is one of the staples of movies throughout the years and some were good and others deserved to be either foreclosed on or just plain torned down. Night Swim is one that deserves to be foreclosed on and then torn down. The movie starts off promising with a child who hears voices and goes to the pool and sees a boat floating in the pool. The boy's sister follows him to the pool and sees him drown which leads the house to being abandoned. Years later another family moves into the house and the realtor shows him around the house including the infamous pool. They accept and move in not realizing the pools reputation which they begin to find out the same way everyone else probably did and that they begin to hear voices and see things that aren't real. They also begin to experience accidents that involve the pool. The mother investigates and researches the house and finds out that the house had several other tenants and confronts the realtor who is clueless about the history. She also tracks down Rebeckah, the sister to the dead boy who drowned in the pool and she finds out that the water comers from a spring.
Meanwhile, her husband is possessed by some sinister black mist and becomes zombie like and after a brief confrontation he falls into the pool and the that black mist flows into the pool. Now you would think they would move out, but they don't want another family experiencing the same fate so they drain the pool and fill it with dirt never to be used again. There is one scene in this movie reminiscent of an old seventies movie where the head of a family moves into this haunted house only to be injured and placed into a wheel chair and watches his son almost drown and barely saves him by diving in and saves him. In the end the kid is almost the lone survivor until the house steeple breaks off and kills the kid. In a movie like Night Swim you would think it would be better especially if James Wan was involved in making it but Night Swim disappoints in both the acting and plot departments....Okay maybe Cider the Cat was the only good performer for what little screen time he had. The movie never even explains why the spring's water is so haunted or cursed or whatever. The movie had a good premise yet never realizes it's potential which is too bad and let's hope another Night Swim is taken day or night.
