There were many movies and documentaries about Elvis Presley as well as other singers unknown and well known including Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper. Now joining them in the realm of movies to memorialize one trailblazing singer has arrived and you shall not regret seeing this movie. Bob Marley: One Love tells the story of Bob Marley in various stages of his life. The movie begins in Kingston, Jamaica where he was born and raised where there was a time of turmoil and violent upheaval and the future King of Reggae, Bob Marley, was working in a small radio station in his hometown and one night some thugs raided his home and shot him along with his mother before he was to do a concert. He survived the assault and he did perform the concert yet he moved his family to London, England where he experienced racism and discrimination but Bob Marley never let that stop him from performing. Like Lou Diamond Phillips says in La Bamba "My dreams are to sing old fashioned rock and roll." So did Bob Marley wanting to bring reggae to the masses. The movie flashes between periods when he was growing up and to the present which is a nice touch in Bob Marley: One Love. The performance by Kingston Aider Aden as Bob Marley is on par and there's even a spooky resemblance to the late Bob Marley from his appearance to his voice. I liked the introduction by Ziggy Marley at the beginning of the movie but what I didn't liked was this trailer that exploited his charity work and causes. I like to mention he wanted to bring people together through his music and whoever created that trailer spot obviously was ignorant. This doesn't take away the movie's charm and appeal and anyone who sees this movie will leave with a s mile on their faces just on Bob Marley's face throughout most of the movie. I loved this movie and anyone who sees this movie will feel the same way. One note: Look for an Amy Winehouse film coming out sometime this year or maybe next. Just a heads up.
