In 1984 David Lynch brought the first of Frank Herbert's Dune series to life. The book was complex and hard to adapt to the movies, but he gave it a go and cast Kyle MacClachlan, who would also team with Lynch again in the successful ABC series Twin Peaks. One Sci Fi Channel mini series attempt later director Denis Villenueva managed to break the Dune curse and successfully adapted Dune as a movie. I admit I never saw the first part but after seeing Dune Part Two I never never realized how good part one was. Dune Part Two begins where part one left off and never disappoints. It shows Paul Atreides continue in his battle to rid Arrakis of his families bitter rivals The Hokkennans to claim control of the spiced trade. Meanwhile the Hokkennans son baron Na Ratha is planning is being groomed as the heir to the throne and he enjoys his birthday by slaughtering the allies of Atreides, who just happen to be old and barely able stand after they were tortured first. At the same time Paul Atreides rejects being the envisioned prophet even though he manages to ride a sandworm, which is kind of the equal to riding a bull or a whale just like in the movie Avatar. Ironically some of the sets look like they came from Avatar and various other movies like Aquaman and Black Panther Wakanda Forever. Denis Villianeuva does a great job at directing the second part of Dune and Timothee Chalamet is once again excellent as Paul Atreides but the true surprise is Patrick Matthew as Na Ratha. He has a scowl and swagger which can even outdo any professional wrestler or even Vin Diesel. Speaking of pro wrestlers Dave Bautista plays the loyal bodyguard to the govenor yet hates Na Ratha. I thought he was going to powerbomb the kid but holds his temper. Zendaya is also a surprise in Dune Part Two. I can't wait to see the next installment of Frank Herbet's Dune series. Take your time and make sure it's done right.
