Biography:
Dex was born and raised in Texas where his father owned a large cattle ranch of around 90,000 acres, situated Just outside of Corpus Christi. Much of the land ran adjacent to the notorious King Ranch, which ensured the Payne family had been unable to expand their own holding for generations. Still, the land was good and the family had prospered there for over one hundred years.
Dex, the only son to an only son had been intended to inherit the land and all the responsibilities that came along with it, until a falling out with his father on his thirteenth Birthday had seen him turned out and disinherited. A Ranch Hand by the name of Nick Morgan, who had worked for his father most of Dex’s life, sheltered the young man which brought David Payne’s wrath down upon himself and so he too was turned out. Payne Sr used his influence with those at the King Ranch and beyond to ruin Nick’s reputation and effectively black ball both Nick and Dexter from finding work anywhere in the State. Reluctantly, the unlikely duo were forced onto the road.
Over the years working their way back and forth across the country, Nick and Dex formed a close bond. Having now been with the Old Hand almost as long as he was with his biological family, Dex thinks of Nick as his brother, father and best friend.
During their travels Dex found that he was more than capable of looking after himself and more than once provided food and beer money for the pair by prize fighting in truck stop parking lots, bar basement’s and carnival boxing rings.
Happy with their lot in life, Dexter and Nick didn’t want for much until late 2016 when Dex was sentenced to 30 days for a ‘Traffic Violation’ which consisted of running a stop sign & resisting arrest. Dex and incarceration were incompatible to say the least and, due to added time from several instances that occurred during his stay, Dexter Payne ended up serving 18 months and 13 days.
With his time served, Dexter is now forced to seek lasting ‘Gainful Employment’ for the first time in his life.
