as I mentioned in the wrestling moves thread Way back in the days before computers were useful and things like that there was what could be the earliest example of what xhf is trying to do called the IWA aka imaginary wrestling alliance it was part of a whole sports by mail thing but I think only the iwa stuck
What it was you filled out an app and sent in a list of 15-20 wrestling moves and each move had a points value associated with it and they added up your total against your opponents and who had the higher points wins .... there were numbers for countouts and dq's
and they had a huge tournament for the belts every month that's a bit complicated to describe ..... matches were 50 cents to a dollar and you could get free matches for winning this and that like if you won your league battle royal got won 10 free matches and 10 matches for half price
the coolest thing was the comments aka trash talking section .... you could write sneak attacks and all sorts of mess (within a 1k word limit ) and they even printed your sent in hand-drawn pictures........
How i found out about it was a wrestling call-in show that used to be on the host was into it and started discussing it on air ..... then they got advertising in pwi and the wrestling mags in the 90s ...
anyone else ever try it ?

I used to play it when I was a kid and I recently signed myself and my two oldest boys up for it and we just received the first month's cycle in the mail. It's still the same pretty much except you can go to a website and do things if you want also. I prefer the mail way it gives you a wrestling magazine feel when you get the results in the mail. When I was a kid I found it in a wrestling magazine and I found it again in a wrestling magazine this time.

are the matches still a buck? i know if you were new to it it was 5 bucks to join cause they sent ya the rule book and other stuff but if you just sent in a new guy and knew a fed yo join it was a dollar and they didnt make you wait for a new league to start i was in so many leagues tho because they had a rule that if a certain number of titles were won by the same people I think it was 3 or 4 months in a row they dissolved it and randomly moved people around ......

yeah, it's a $1 a match and $3 to start for 10 matches in your first cycle and after that, it's a $1 a match if you spend $12 or more you get 20 free matches with the ones you bought.

I was spending 50 a month back in the day I was always in the mid ranks but there the top 5 guys always had records of 400-196-58 ... although i did have one guy that was in the league where you had to have 100 wins or at least 100k in cash (cause the matches were 50 cents each) and beat the legendary jumping John Elway twice ....... But i didnt have money steadily and they started a rule that if you didn't have at least a few matches they didn't send ya anything because the printing was soo expensive back then........ so id go for a few months and then fade out ....

I remember my IWA days like they were yesterday and a lot of the times when it came to trash talk I noticed that nearly nobody even did that in the leagues I was in. If they did it was only if they were either new or wanted to show they still existed. Did anyone notice how many celebrities and other real life people were in the league rankings as well as movie and television characters too. I was quite active up to a few years ago and then I just decided to retire from the IWA still it was a good experience. A couple of last things just make sure your matches are on time or they'll use the same strategy and you'll lose all your titles if you had any and the other thing is make sure you have a commissioner in your leagues since I had to be the caretaker of mine after a whole bunch of them came and left my league.
