It took close to fifty years but someone finally decided to give one of the most iconic Asian comic book characters his own movie. I'm referring to Master of Kung Fu Shang Chi. Here is a superhero who doesn't rely on super powers but relies only on his martial arts training. Shang's went through a transformation since his creation in December 1971/January 1972 and lasted until March 1983 running a record 125 issues. He went from walking around in a martial arts outfit to wearing an outfit that resembles the late Bruce Lee. He battled villains such as Razor Fist and Shen Qui aka The Cat and even his father Fu Manchu later renamed Zheng Zu in later plotlines from Eye of the Dragon in which Captain America appeared to protect him from his father and Secret Wars Battle World. Shang Chi never believed in killing and followed his heart when he battled villains. The last issue 125 was quite interesting because he finally found his mother only for her to reject him and Shang just simply walked away from Project Resurrection.
Shang Chi only made guest appearances in various Marvel comics and was part of Avengers World which lasted close to three years. The last issues led into Secret Wars and it had an interesting plot for Shang Chi allowing himself to be possessed by alien entities. The latest appearances have him co starring in a Marvel comics adaptation of New Agents of Atlas which will become a regular comic book this month or next month but he's currently appearing in Swordsman a new Marvel comic. I know I went off the subject but those who don't know this character should at least know some of his history and what he's been doing lately. When it comes to the movie adaptation of Master of Kung Fu I just hope they do it right and be quite careful with the script as well as with the casting and don't rush the movie too much since he's one of the best low key and under the radar comic book characters in Marvel's history.
