Squinting behind her designer sunglasses, she navigated the smattering of crowds. Figuring this was the last place he would go, but having checked the local gyms, museums and movie theatres. It was time for the long shot, and it wasn’t that far from their hotel.
A family of mammoths obscured him from her at first. There were families gathered around and a bright green acrobat showing off for the children.
She was in disbelief at first. He was a professional wrestler, a luchador, and here he was flipping and bumbling around just to hear the laughter of children. He shouldn’t be here.
Yet, here he was. Acting a fool for the small group of kids gathered before him in the most stereotypical place a wrestler dressed as a dinosaur could possibly be. The La Brea Tar pits.
Pequeño Dinosaurio: That’s my boss, so I’m gonna take a little break and then I’ll be back for one last time before I go.
Sending the slightly disappointed kids back to their parents, he turned his attention to his mildly annoyed agent.
Pequeño Dinosaurio: Hey Vanessa. I came here to relax and the kids saw my mask and one thing led to another, but anyway, how’d you find me?
From the tip of her dark Latina locks, through the grey suit she wore and all the way down to her nine hundred dollar heels, she shakes her head.
Vanessa Martinez: It wasn’t that hard. After I checked the gyms and museums, I just thought about where someone who had never really been to L.A. would go, then added in your ridiculously cute fascination with dinosaurs and here we are…
Stretching her arms out, it wasn’t just her smile, or her words that let him know she was proud of herself, it was her body language. Everything about her exuded confidence, he admired that about her. She could control any room within minutes of entering it, in a ring Vanessa Martinez would have been terrifying.
Pequeño Dinosaurio: What can I say? I grew up idolizing a man dressed as a tyrannosaurus.
He managed a smile but it was forced. He still hadn’t recovered from everything that had gone down in Atlanta, if anything. He was worse.
Pequeño Dinosaurio: Thanks Vanessa but I need something else. Taking on Mila for the Anarchy and Legacy Championships is great and all but at the end of the night, those titles die with RSW. I need to make an impact, something lasting.
Vanessa Martinez: Are you familiar with the End of Days tournament? A huge tournament put in by the network…you could certainly gain some notoriety with a solid showing there…
Pequeño Dinosaurio: Ok, yeah…do it! Let’s see if I can succeed outside the rosters of RSW and GCW, let’s see what else is out there! But my public awaits…
A little girl in blonde pigtails now stood behind Vanessa tapping her foot, apparently the leader of the pack, soon at least half a dozen children had gathered back.
Vanessa Martinez: I’ll get on setting it up with the network executives. You work on taking those belts back to GCW and then surviving the End of Days. I’ll see you back at the hotel.
Back to tumbling around for smiling kids, Pequeño Dinosaurio was an interesting first client for her. He truly seemed to be as innocent as he appeared. Making what would happen to him in this business all the worse.
