“It looks like it’s going to be a dark and stormy night. The fog rolls just as the sun sets and you can feel the disruptive essence of thunder in the air. I even feel it down here.“
Fukushima peeks out from the bars of a small gutter. She steps back into the room of the mausoleum and wipes at the dust on the walls.
“This is me. I’m happiest in the darkest places where people don’t really seem to want to be. We seem to avoid the things that make us remember that we are mortals. Things that show us that we have flaws. I guess that is why most people will not like me in this tournament. You have already written me off, yes? My federation used to be full of females and we have been seen as weaker and not up to snuff in all the other events. I remember last time where the edgelords said such unoriginal things about us in an effort to curb political correctness. I bet their internet fans really applauded for them.
Unfortunately in the real world, there are no upvotes, hearts, or likes. We suffer worse consequences for the things we say. See you are all out there in the world walking blindly in the fog. What is worse is that you have such confidence that you do not care if you walk into a pole and break your nose, or fall into a hole never to be seen again. It’s all just one step in front of the other. Never looking back while it’s impossible to look ahead. Still, you walk. You call this brave but you all do not see the threat that lies in here. In me.”
She points at her chest where a dirt-covered dress covers icy porcelain skin.
“Within the XHF Network I have only held my title but I held it the longest. This might be why I have represented us more than once. The challenge has been big but I step up each time. I keep moving again and again because I am too stupid to quit. That part of my brain is missing. Maybe it got cut out or something…”
Fukushima laughs and points to her head. She wipes her face wiping some of the corpse makeup off her forehead and cheek.
“I know fear. I am afraid of this. I do not run from it because fear is what keeps us sharp. But what I fear isn’t you other people in End of Days. You can just threaten me with physical violence. That is only just our jobs and we are all used to it. Would you like to see my scars? Some of them are pretty and some of them… not so much. I am not even afraid of failure since these are only lessons in a cruel wrapping like thorns on a flower. The thing that I am afraid of is disappointment. To me, that means not living up to my potential. The present and future promises of my reputation and my name. That is something that I will share with you all.
See while you all stumble from there to here a lot of you will walk blindly into me. I embrace the fog. I use it as a weapon like a ghost. I will surprise you all and bring you to face death. Do not worry. I will not claim to kill you because these are simply going to be wrestling matches. So this will be the death of your reputation and momentum. I will try to contain myself and try to salvage your careers, but I will make no promises. Sometimes, with my nature, I get carried away. That might be for the best because this tournament is all about rebirth.”
Fuku drags the large stone top of the coffin to the right to close it then walks up some stairs to the outside.
“Up and up to claim the title in your home. This is exposure and a fast track to legitimacy. Forme, who has already tasted this… It would mean redemption. Winning this tournament would bring me back to where I belong. My reign was vast and my influence saw SSS thrive and grow. Now that we have more people and become one with the SEC regaining this strength will show everyone there that I am still that force of power. This is why I cannot let you find the sun.”
Fukushima starts to walk forward away from the mausoleum and into the fog. As she gets further out her gate becomes more erratic and stiff. She almost drags her leg on the ground as if she is losing life as she gets further from the crypt.
“Space Oddity will be the first to see how much I want this opportunity. The time for introductions is over. I will seek to be the same dominant force I once was in Japan. Threaten me with harm, boast about your size compared to mines, try to convince yourself that your drive is all-encompassing. I have seen all of that and more in my short but quick career. When it is all over more than one of you will be taken by the mist. The airs you put up will be vaporized by my truth. When you see me all you believe are misconceptions. All you see are prejudices. I overcome them each and every match. I prove you wrong with every victory. It is something I will do again here at End of Days.”
She stops in the middle of a clearing and looks up at the sky. The fog seems to be clearing away where she stands. Thunder rumbles above her. You see her smile in the flash of lightning but is gone just as quick as the light.
“When it rains it pours. That first victory will be just a taste and I am ever so hungry. I will not be satisfied until I take it all. I will not sleep until that task is done. Do you hear me coming? I will show you your mortality. That is what this end is for the rest of you. Now please take cover because it is about to begin”
The shot zooms up as water starts to fall.
