-We catch up with Donny at a local library. Inside today figures from the entertainment industry gather to read books to kids. Donny is sitting among a modest crowd of wide eyed youth who are seemingly hanging on his every word. Donny himself is getting quite into it, making sure to pantomime certain parts and deliver over the top facial expressions to keep them all enthralled.
When he’s finished with the story the kids make a groan, but soon realize all good things must come to an end. However, Donny, having such a big heart starts handing them out free PSW merchandise just for showing up and spending some time with him today. The last child is handed their swag, a picture taken with the star, while the rest slowly file outside.
Donny takes a second to smile and notices the camera is still lingering about and motions it closer.-
“It’s days like today where I’m happy to be alive. I’m not an old man, I don’t even have kids, but I do remember what it was like being a kid. It’s a time where dreams are only dreams. You believe in miracles with all your heart and soul. It’s only the spectre of age that taints their innocence. When the time comes to make dreams reality.
For some, their dreams are forever out of their reach, even if not by their own choosing. Some kids are born into a life where they feel like no matter what they do the game was rigged from the start. I’m sure there were a few kids here today who live in that type of world. Maybe they are poor, maybe they get picked on in school, or maybe they have some type of disability?
As a man who’s been blessed with natural athletic and academic talent, someone who has been loved by his peers pretty consistently, many would say I can’t sympathize with their plight. Yet this is where I’m going to remind people that even if you start higher on the ladder, you still have to have the will to climb it. It’s also up to people like me to reach their hand down when I’m on top and help pull up those who are still ascending. We all benefit from everyone prospering.
This is where I feel me and Alexis share a similarity too, but unfortunately it looks like the weight of success is doing just that, holding her down. I don’t want to speak for anyone, but I do want to make clear life is what you make of it. Instead of worrying that you’ll never be recognized on your own merits, use the opportunity you’re given instead of fighting against it.
Alexis, you’re a very talented performer. In fact, one of the better ones I’ve seen as of late. But I can’t just sit here while a cloud of negativity surrounds you. What kind of champion would you be? One that blames the world for their woes? One that would selfishly claim they did it all on their own, that other people don’t matter? I hope one day you come full circle. In fact, in any other circumstance I would say having the first Phantomweight Champion be a woman would be an inspiring story. But some stories need more development to truly become classic.
That’s where you’re at Alexis. I’ll be happy to be proven wrong, but you’re going to have to get past me first, and then show otherwise. Until then, keep working hard and know I’m not just fighting for myself. I’m gonna raise up the whole world in a wave of positivity, hard work, and dedication.”
