The X*Crown Championship.
The scene begins with a shot of all the championships that The Icons have held in their times and pictures of the moments they captured them. Ranging from the XHF Tag Team Championships with Maverick and Drago along with Jack Diamond and Bobby Barratt, the AWF Championship with Bobby Barratt twice, and the X*Crown Championship with Jack Diamond and Bobby Barratt. Then, we get a panoramic shot of The Diamond Lounge II in its full completion as we cut to Maverick, sitting where he normally belongs… in a bar, surrounded by pint glasses in the multiple numbers.
Think about the many that have held the most prestigious Championship inside of the XHF itself... MGK, Death Trap, Rage, Venom, James Mueller, Curtis Kanyon, Rob Arnold and many more. Those men are legends in the XHF, known by nearly every wrestler within the network. Even the latest Champions are legends, you could ask Jack Diamond. You could ask Bobby Barratt. You could even ask Seth Dillinger. And Subject Forty Two. But as much as they talk about the past, they talk more about the future, and when you talk about the future... You always bring up my name. Now, my return came at a perfect time, I joined Master Class Championship Wrestling and signed with them when they needed a representative for End of Days and their chase for the X*Crown. I remember talking to Aleister Mayfield as the sound of worry took over his voice, knowing how much he trusted his last representative for this title who lost big time and decided to take enhancement drugs to help himself after becoming Subject's bitch, but I gave that humble man my word that I was bringing it home for MCCW and now look at me... Doing better than that farmer fucker.
He chuckles a little.
But like I said, I have given that man my word, that I would bring it home and that's exactly what I will do but... unlike Lucas Swann, I actually have a challenge in front of me. Bobby Barratt, Subject Forty Two and someone who looks like he should have stayed in those raves under the bridges. Speaking of that raving emo, or as he refers to himself as "Psychotic Goth"...
He rolls his eyes as the mention of the name.
Psychotic Goth is uh... A special sort of person, if I could describe in with one word. I seen he had made a gift for Nausicaa Suzuki and uhm... That's it really. I wish I could say he makes it interesting but lord above he bores the shit out of me, and although it's not that hard to do so, you took it to a next step. I mean, good job on a gift we don't even see that you made for Suzuki, I'd say it's just a chunk of metal you hammered away at and then chucked it in the bin one you stopped recording. Let me tell you out straight, Goth, and a bit of advice for you whilst you're here watching actual luxury and not living in a dumpster named Syndicate Wrestling and Tradition. My best choice of words to actually attract a crowd for you is to stop looking like a knock off Vincent Draven and actually give yourself a personality because right now, I'm sick to death looking at your miserable looking, pale as fuck head.
Maverick takes a big gulp from his pint before making his way out of the bar itself. He looks around before finding himself walking towards the casino, from there he makes his way over to the roulette table, taking a seat as he pays for admission to the game. He's handed 20K in chips, placing his pint down on the table, he watches others bet as he slides 10K of chips onto the number 22.
Then, there’s your X*Crown Champion. The Freak! Subject Forty Two! Oh man, how much I’ve heard about you. I know you’re still recovering from them scratches you were given to by that tiger but you gave Yuki one hell of a fucking beating in a match you could say was quite literally the true definition of the word, flawless. But let’s talk about yourself, and how you became a nobody to a somebody over one whole night. You came out of nowhere, you beat Weaselpop and then climbed to the top of The XHF Arena to become the new X*Crown Champion. A moment that’ll be etched in many people’s minds, Subject Forty Two holding the coveted X*Crown Championship high along the rooftop of that building across the road from here. The dice rolled and were in your favor, but from there… The fun stops. Now I won’t say you were a bad X*Crown Champion but I’ve seen people put more care into those 20 championships than you have. You defended it against Joe Nobody… the name is fitting, by the way and then against Ai Moe where you battered her to shit and took the SBW Championship into your own collection of belts. And hey, remember when the rules of the X*Crown were 30 day defenses? Yeah, how’s that’s going for you there, Subject? Let’s just hope you don’t go mad and roar into the heavens that you were booked for this match for nearly a month, I’m sure Seth even kept his 30 day defenses in tact.
He winks at the camera.
But as much as you want to look good, you’re nothing to me, I’ve been against everyone from your height to smaller than my height. From your size to even smaller than my size. Though the outcomes of those can be… iffy, at times, the last time I went up face to face with someone your height and weight, I kicked their fucking head off and survived hellacious pain to do so. I mean, I am the same man that moonsaulted off a ladder instead of grabbing a title. I am the same man that fell twenty feet in the air onto some steel steps, covering myself in blood and requiring plenty of stitches. I am the same man who hit a Storm Breaker finisher off of a Steel Cage onto the floor below and still was able to walk out of the building on their own two feet. So heights, I am not afraid of in the slightest and seeing what you did for that Tower Match and then looking at the match that awaits us in the Emirates Stadium on October 27th… Still not worried, what you didn’t have last time was a man who had no fear into the heights. Seth, Tommy, Nausicaa and whoever else was there… They were afraid and so were you. So what’s going to happen when we enter the Vortex Match? The same exact thing as before, but this time, you have me standing on top and you? Down at the bottom, right where you belong.
The roulette wheel spins, and the ball lands right in number 22. All bets are slid right into Maverick’s direction, he grabs them and places them into his pocket. He grabs his pint and takes a few more gulps out of it, leaving it half empty as he heads for an elevator. Beside it’s doors is a small golden plaque that reads “Restriced Access – Icons Only” which leaves Maverick nothing more than a smile along his face. He grabs a keycard from his jacket pocket and taps it on a Card Scanner which opens the doors to the elevator, he enters inside and presses a button, the doors close as we cut to another set of elevator doors. The doors open as Maverick steps out, he looks around and lets out a sigh of relief. The camera shot pans back as we get a full look of The Icon Suite, newly furnished and decked out just like the last one. Though no signs of an Icon around, Maverick wastes no time getting comfortable by taking off his jacket and leaving it along the couch. He walks over to the balcony that looks over the lobby to the hotel itself, he glides his hands along the golden bannisters that go across the balcony just like how he did back in the old Diamond Lounge, the one he lost to Anthony Caffrey back in June. Already feeling the déjà vu, he looks over to his right and takes notice to The Icon Wall of Fame. Covered in its replica of XHF, AWF and ICW Championships… He looks around, noticing a new feature with this wall, the inclusion of pictures beside the championships. In those pictures are moments where the holder raised their championships high for the first time. From Drago and Maverick’s one reign as XHF Tag Team Champions, Bobby’s first reign as AWF Champion all the way to both Bobby and Jack’s reign as Tag Team Champion, and both their reigns as X*Crown Champion.
And last but not least, there’s you.
He glides his hand across the custom designed X*Crown Championship made just for Bobby, his fingers stopping at the name place that reads “BOBBY BARRATT” He remembers his first time seeing this in person, being impressed with Bobby and his choice of design but now, nothing but jealousy comes to mind when he looks at that title.
Bobby, it’s hard to even look at you after everything I’ve been through when I was in your shadows. Every time I did something great for just myself and my career, you took it one step further and made yourself the talk of the town. I felt it last year, although I entered End of Days, they talked about you the most and look what happened… You fucking won it. When I beat Hyperion clean, unlike you who used a metal pipe to knock the God out of him, you won this exact title later that night and guess what, Bobby. You took all that attention away from me, winning the Crown and then leaving AWF in the same night. I was overlooked for so fucking long, yet when you first introduced me, you called me a man with great potential and I felt like the next Prodigy. I felt like I could have been the next Bobby Barratt but now I realize how better I am not being the next you. With every high of Bobby, there’s a low… a pretty deep low. After losing it all at The Rumble, you chased the AXW Undisputed Championship and after me falling to Caffrey, you failed harder than I did. Although I left that man wondering what his name was at the end of the night, you tapped out and you were embarrassed to say the least.
His smirk is slightly noticeable, he walks over and grabs his pint from the glass table and takes a few more gulps out of it, walking over to the bar and finishing his drink. He slams the glass down on the marble counter, he watches the cracks forming in the glass with a devious smile on his face.
Everyone thought you were done after Night of Champions, Bobby, everyone thought that the match you had with Caffrey was your ride into the sunset and the book of Bobby Barratt was well and truly over but now I see you found shelter in AWF once again. Remember what you told me when you walked out of there? You said you’d never step back there again, but from then until now, it seems like your mind has changed about it all and you entered Fired Up. This, this was your last chance at redemption. This was your last chance and if you failed, then it’ll be time to hang up them boots. That’s what you said, right?
Maverick begins to chuckle but it becomes more of a laugh the longer it goes on.
That’s what’s you wanted people to believe and now here you are, with Rocco Rose in AWF, and he’s claiming to be an Icon now. Tell me, how long are you going to flop being the man you once were before you snap back into reality that you can’t hang with most of the talent who have adapted to the type of style you tend to train in. I mean you’re old, you’re 40 now and you’re still able to do the things like what you do in the ring, impressive to say the least if you ask me. I wish I could call you the 40 Year Old Virgin but… we all know what was brought up en route to The Rumble now, don’t we? Then again, it still could be true, who knows who Jenny slept with behind your back.
He winks at the camera as he walks back over to the Icon Wall of Fame, he looks around it once more with a quick glance before grabbing one photo in particular… The first photograph of Bobby Barratt holding the X*Crown Championship over his head after a match at A Very AWF Christmas. He takes it off the wall and walks over to an open area in the Suite, placing it down on the ground ever so gently and continuously looking down at the picture.
All jokes aside, Bobby. I'm going to make this very, very clear to you. We may be the closest of friends, I may have been there for you all those times but I don't need to decide and think if I should save our friendship or beat the living piss out of you for this title. You know it and I know it, this belongs to me this is what I deserve! You've already done enough to prove you're a fucking legend in this business whilst I still struggle to even get close to being somewhat of a success. I'm the fucking nearly man! I'm always fucking things up in the end but not any more. My return has been nothing more than outstanding victories. I was the first to pin Eichi Yamaguchi! I took a painful chair shot to the head and still beat Alan Galloway! I've beaten the best, but you're not going to be the roadblock in my path. Nobody is, not even Subject. Everyone's been calling me the next Bobby Barratt, everyone's been calling me the next Jack Diamond and oh trust me the list goes on. They've said I'm the next Rob Arnold, the next MGK, the next Death Trap, the next this and the next that but you know who I really am? I am the first... the fucking first ever Maverick! The one and only and there'll never be anyone like me ever again because I will TAKE. I will not be handed, I will TAKE... the X*Crown Championship and finally be who I am.
He raises his foot up and slams it down onto the photograph, smashing the glass into small pieces.
The Iconic King.
And if you think that this is all in my head like I've gone crazy, I'm hallucinating or I've totally gone mad with jealousy... I'm not, the only dream there is... Is of people not wanting to picture me as X*Crown Champion, and for those people I'm sorry to say but...
Dream Over.
With a snap of his fingers in front of the camera, the scene quickly cuts to black.
