When Pontius comes to kill the king upon his throne
I'm ready for their stones.
I'll dance, dance, dance
With my hands, hands, hands,
Above my head, head, head
As the scene opens up at The Union Workhouse in Wexford Town, where End of Days Night Four and AWF Prestige Forty One takes place, we begin things with a view from the seating that both Hannah and Maverick take. Albeit a little further away from the ring than what they wanted, they still enjoy the show that is put on for the Wexford crowd. With some fans in attendance chanting for Maverick after spotting him amongst others, he doesn’t put any pass on it, he smiles and waves before putting focus back onto the show itself. Jump cut to a few hours later and the show has finally ended, an End of Days Final is set with Jeremiah Vastrix and Death Trap and many more matches to go along with it from AWF alone… The Emirates Stadium is looking to explode with great matches on a stacked card. With everyone gone, and ring crew looking to take apart the ring, Maverick gets up from out of his seat and heads closer to the ring, being inches away but with a guardrail to block his path. Hannah then walks over and confronts him.
HANNAH
“What are you trying to do?”
MAVERICK
“Run the ropes, y’know, before that match next week.”
HANNAH
“Jay, don’t you work for MCCW? Don’t you have to go back to the States for that anyway? I’m sure that’s enough rope-running for now.”
MAVERICK
“I’m still iffy, I got my ass handed to me by Death Trap.”
HANNAH
“Maybe that’s why he’s World Champion and a finalist in End of Days…”
Maverick looks back at Hannah, an eyebrow raised over her previous statement.
MAVERICK
“Are you saying I ain’t good enough?”
HANNAH
“Did those words come out of my mouth?”
MAVERICK
“You alluded to it.”
HANNAH
“…sure I did.”
Maverick looks back at the ring before hopping over the guardrail, he walks around the ringside area before placing both hands on the ring apron. Hannah, still keeping to her side of the barricade, walks over to Maverick with a look of confusion on her face.
HANNAH
“What the fuck are you trying to do?”
MAVERICK
“Oh come on, I can’t get in serious trouble over shit like this now, can I?”
HANNAH
“I wouldn’t put money to it…”
Maverick grabs the bottom rope and pulls himself up onto the ring apron, turning around like he would normally do during an entrance. He looks down at Hannah who just shakes her head from side to side, disagreeing with Maverick’s actions. Maverick grabs the top rope, pulling at it to test its strength before leaping onto the ropes, flipping himself into the ring and landing on his feet. A ringside crew member takes notice of Maverick inside the ring, the AWF logo is quite visible on his shirt as he enters the ring and taps Maverick on the shoulder. Maverick looks over his shoulder.
RINGSIDE CREW MEMBER
"What are you doing in here? We've got to clear this out for next week's show!"
MAVERICK
"Excuse me, do you know who I am?"
RINGSIDE CREW MEMBER
"Of course, you;re Maverick. But that doesn't mean you've got permission to be over the cades and in this ring."
MAVERICK
"Fair enough, your loss, I guess."
The man raises an eyebrow.
RINGSIDE CREW MEMBER
"My los-"
Maverick begins to beat down on the crew member, delivering kicks and stomping down on the man before kicking him out of the ring. Hannah comes into the ring and drags Maverick away before he could even try to go after the innocent man.
HANNAH
"Jesus fucking Christ, Jay. what are you doing?"
MAVERICK
"You could have went home."
HANNAH
"After seeing that? Are you fucking dumb?"
MAVERICK
"Oh just go, will you? I just need to be let alone, for fuck sake!"
Hannah looks at Maverick, although a little taken back by the tone he's used at her, she lays down and rolls out of the ring, heading out of the location and going home. Maverick leans against the ropes, holding his head down before moving it to look down at a camera man packing up a high-quality camera. Maverick clicks his fingers at the man to grab his attention, once he does get his attention, he points at him and then the camera before pointing in the ring as if he's asking to record himself. Of course, after seeing what transpired, he seems to have no choice but to do as he's told. The man grabs his camera and sets it back together before climbing onto the ring apron and hitting record with the camera pointed at Maverick, as he walks around the ring, keeping his focus on the AWF logo printed on the ring apron before stopping and keeping his eyes laser focused on that logo. He takes a seat, crossing his legs and still keeping focus to that one spot.
MAVERICK
"The last time I was in an AWF ring, I went into a war with Chris Card and I nearly walked out with the win but... He had me beat with that Spinning Hook Kick, and my jaw was hurting for hours on end after taking such a hit. I never thought for a second I'd be back in this ring, the same ring where I poured my own blood, sweat and tears onto this mat as it soaked it all up. I done everything for this fucking company but what did they do? What respect did they show me when I wanted to take a break from wrestling? None. None whatsoever, not even a simple 'Hey, we want you back, we miss you' but I was basically disregarded and forgotten. For the amount of work I've done for a company like AWF, you'd think they'd at least acknowledge me in some way but no. Bobby Barratt is asked back after ditching the place with the X*Crown, telling them to fuck off and walked away but he's there now, back like nothing happened."
He rolls his eyes.
MAVERICK
"Actually, on the subject of Bobby Barratt... I seen some of the shit you said to me, and fair play, you knew how personal it'll get and now you've come to bite. I respect that, showing some courage before I mercilessly beat the fucking shit out of you, or can I even do that anymore with the fact you've seemed to be LGBTKO's fourth member after what I've seen tonight. I could be called a gay basher if I do anything to you, could I?"
A little chuckle comes from him, although not in an ancient English dialect, it's still a chuckle.
MAVERICK
"Nonethe-fucking-less, Bobby, I just wanted to remind... not only you... but everyone else that you rendition of a certain tale of events was very different than the one I remember being told. I remember from an old friend of yours and mine, Jack effin Diamond, was that you didn't want me anywhere near The Icons in any way possible. You hated my guts and you said that it was on Jack, not you, but Jack. Am I right, Bobby? Because I remember that very clearly. Of course, you could have been saying this because of all the personal attacks I've thrown at you and is just begging for people to sob along with you, begging for people to cry about how I've become this asshole that doesn't respect his dearest friend of two fucking years. Tell me this, Bobby, when I was going through a deep state of depression after loss after loss after loss and just not being fucking good enough to wrestle for near enough half of 2018... Where were you when I needed you? When I was hospitalized after Prestige Twenty One, and I forced myself to check out of A&E... Where were you when I needed you? When I was going insane and turned into what seemed like a rendition of the Broken Prodigy that you once were as the weeks came closer to my match with Hyperion... Where were you when all of this happened?"
His eyes are squinting, the blood boiling from deep within shows within those eyes.
MAVERICK
"And all I see you talk about is when I helped you through your darkest days, when I helped you through an alcoholic addiction and a deep state of depression, when I gave you money because you didn't have any and you were in debt and broke with not a penny to spend. You see how I was there for you, and where were you when I had all these moments? Nowhere to be fucking seen. Jack made some fucking attempt at times, and it was more than what you did. Hell, this has been the same shit since I first fucking met you. I've tried to be nice and you pushed me away, I helped Jenny when she was pregnant and you either pushed me away or beat the shit out of me because that was your girl and nobody else was allowed to touch. And remember when you found out about the miscarriage? I tried to be as comforting as I could without causing either one of you any stress and guess what, Bobby... You pushed me away. You wanted nothing to do with me from the beginning and it shows."
Heavy breathing is heard coming from him, he brings his fingers through his bright and bleached white hair as he leans his head back in the process of trying his best to mentally calm himself down.
MAVERICK
"You accepted me because you had no choice, and once you came to knew me better, you realized all those times you pushed me away were wrong and disrespectful. So we became friends, and then close friends, but I was still there for you and not for me. You could say I pushed you away or I told you I didn't want your help, but let me tell you something, I never have. Not once would I get a phone call and ask me how am I doing, how has my day been or how's my continuous problems with my back which has gone so far under the radar with you that you didn't really give a shit about my health. Not once did I get a 'You should stop doing this' or a 'This is going to affect you in the future' and it did. That's why I left back in July. I couldn't take it any more, and I did all those dates with a nagging pain in my lower back that would happen for seventy-two or even one hundred and twenty-eight hours straight. I didn't tell you because I knew you were too focused on Anthony Caffrey, I didn't tell you because someone like you would tell me to quit whining and put some cream onto it, I didn't tell you because you measly didn't even give a shit to begin with."
The grittiness in his voice becomes more clear with every sentence that's said.
MAVERICK
"Bobby, I've been holding an inner grudge against you for the last two years and I told you personally that if we were to go against each other at any given point, I won't hold back on anything. It's quite clear that you've forgotten that, because you seem to hound on the thought process that I'm only doing this for the attention. Bobby, if I did, I'd drive myself to Ryecroft Cemetary in Walsall and I will dig up the corpse of Jenny, and I will do many heinous things that you wouldn't even imagine. Bobby, I wouldn't put a bet on me doing so because you know how far my line is with things, I have no limit to the things I say and the things I do. I am a uncensored and unscripted master of mystery, you'd never know what to expect from me. And hell, maybe when I'm there, I can find that little casket box you had for your unborn son and throw it into the River Tame. Jenny did the best thing when she let you, but she made a mistake going back to you and look what happened, costed her life. I mean no disrespect for Jenny, but she was such a dumb bitch for doing so. I mean, at that time, you were boning Amber. You didn't care for her, you were still getting action in bed without her and even without Amber these days, you're shagging that tramp who was getting sexually molested in your company. Sophie, I think her name was. Have you no shame, Bobby?"
Shaking his head once more in disapproval.
MAVERICK
"You can try to fight back, at your best at least, but I've known every single little detail about you but what do you know about me? Do you know the inner secrets that I hide? No, you don't. Bobby, I've read you like a book many and many times before and now and it's been the same shit over and over again. Always lacking when you lose the big one, always a fight to chase the gold like it's the Cinderella Story, failing again and saying it's enough before you're back to that same story like you need to accomplish something in life to get that extra boost of confidence and win the championship. Would you like some examples of this happening?"
For the first time, he grins, but slightly.
MAVERICK
"After you lost your first reign as AWF Champion to Jackson Steele, you fell into a dark place, and you became a depressed-thriving alcoholic. When you became a contender to the AWF Prestige Class Championship, you fought hard through your problems and broke free from it all. Your achievement was that you overcame the one thing that kept holding you down and you successfully won that match. Next was after you lost the AWF Prestige Championship, you became known as a gay-basher and was hated by the LGBT Community so you entered End of Days and you fought with heart and courage and even faked your own death to win End of Days. You achieved the will to survive, and to gain back that respect by putting yourself through a tough and grueling series of matches within a short amount of weeks against the very best that the XHF has to offer. And let's take it back to most recently with you helping Sophie and saved her from a possible {No Means No}, as much as you tried to be the hero of it all and finally cashing in that briefcase you carried for months on end, you failed horribly. But not only did you fail yourself but you failed us, you failed your friends, you failed The Icons. And you could come at me with the hard facts that I couldn't do it to but look what I did compared to you. I made Caffrey tap out, I don't see you being able to do that now, do I? I knocked that fucker out and left him laying there, but did you knock Caffrey out at any point during the build up to this monumental match at Night of Champions?"
Doing that same grin as last time, only slightly nodding his head.
MAVERICK
"At least I could have beaten Caffrey, but I slipped at the wrong time and it costed me everything. You, on the other hand, you tapped out to that dreaded Ankle Lock and lost the match in a clean and decisive call. I fought Caffrey for the simple point that I knew I would be something he's never faced and I gave that man the fucking beating he deserved, and yeah, I lost The Diamond Lounge in the process but I still had people behind my back and you weren't one of them. But who had your back when you lost, Bobby, the answer is as clear as day... It was me, as per fucking usual with these matches."
He finally brings himself up to his feet, once again circling around the ring in a very slow manner.
MAVERICK
"Bobby, you've tried to make this as personal as you could get it to be and even at that, you failed. So there's only one thing left to ask, what are you going to do now? You've got nowhere to run and nowhere to hide, you've only got this place here to look after you and even then, when they see you fail to bring it home to AWF... They'd want you out of there quick, you're their only hope of success with Rocco Rose being eliminated from End of Days after putting so much faith into him but the odds are stacked against you big time and it's not going to be Subject that beats you, it's not going to be Psychotic Goth who beats you... It's going to be me, and when I do beat you at End of Days, I will make sure that you know who's been the biggest and best Icon there was and always has... Except, there won't be any Icons after tonight."
He slides underneath the bottom ropes and picks up a training bag that athletes tend to use, unzipping it and revealing it's contents to be The Icons jacket that Maverick wore, name-patch and all. He keeps it in his hand and close to his face as he looks back at the camera.
MAVERICK
"Do you remember this, Bobby? It's the same jacket that you gave me at Prestige Seven, the night The Icons were born. I've always cherished this jacket and in my wardrobe, I've many more variations of this exact jacket but this one was the OG, the classic, the original. Bobby, I have no idea what you've done with yours but I've always kept it for a moment like this one. You see, The Icons are well and truly dead. I thought that you, Bobby, were still repping The Icon name when I came back and was the only reason why I kept the name of The Iconic Prince. I could have been something else entirely but no, I kept that because I thought we'd be back doing the usual shenanigans but no, after what I've seen I think it's finally time to end it once and for all. Just remember, you did this, Bobby. You brought this upon yourself."
He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a lighter, reaching into the bag once again as he grabs a bottle of lighter fluid. He places the jacket down on the mat, dousing the jacket with the fluid before lighting it up in flames with the lighter. He watches it as it burns to nothing more but ashes before turning back to the camera.
MAVERICK
"And for AWF, I'd like to send a heartwarming message to you personally. You've tried so hard to find the next big thing and when it all failed, you've grasped onto a dying horse who can barely stand on his own two feet and have clinged onto him in hopes that he'd bring the big one home. Now, you watch and you see that all the things you've done in my absence have backfired. You've tried to find the next big thing when I was right here the whole time, and even then, you ignored me. Then you couldn't even think of wanting me back, not even an invitation to Fired Up which is something I find sad yet it's something I can look back on and think how much of a mistake you've made. Now, when End of Days is all set and done, you'd be wishing for two things."
He raises one finger up to the camera.
MAVERICK
"You'll be wishing that once Anthony Caffrey signs with you fuckers, he'll bring that AXW Undisputed Championship with him and don't try to deny that you don't want him or he doesn't want to join AWF because everyone knows that when AXW is dead in the dirt, he's jumping over there to cause havoc."
He raises a second finger up to the camera.
MAVERICK
"You're hoping that Bobby doesn't fuck you over and brings the Crown home because if he doesn't then you will end the year without an X*Crown in your possession and trust me, nobody wants to see it over with you again after hogging it for almost a year. But you know what? I'll tell you exactly who and what company the X*Crown Championship is going to."
He reaches into the bag for a final time, pulling out what seems to be a can of spray paint, black to be precise. He shakes it vigorously before popping the cap off it and applying the black coat of spray paint over the AWF logo that's printed into the ring canvas. Once he's done, he takes a few steps back to show his art work as it says...
"M C C W"
...written over the AWF logo. He tosses the can out of the ring and far away from where he stands. Maverick smiles, looking down as he admires what he's done. He then turns back to the camera, still that Cheshire cat-like smile along his face before uttering out his last sentence to end the promo.
MAVERICK
"...All of this, and everything you just saw? I wouldn't say it, if it weren't true now, would I?"
With that he rolls out of the ring and heads straight for the exit as the scene finally cuts to black.
