Somewhere over the Mediterranean Sea, “God’s Gift” Jeremiah Vastrix sits in the cargo area of a transport helicopter. He’s steady watching his cell phone as Captain Gilbert Harris and a couple of other shocktroopers look over his shoulder.
Naturally, they’re watching the latest promo from Death Trap.
CAPTAIN HARRIS: You know, Death Trap does have a point. Not feeling any pain will mean you won’t know how much damage is being inflicted.
Jeremiah just shrugs.
JEREMIAH VASTRIX: I suppose he has a point about just being a wrestler and keeping focused on his job.
CAPTAIN HARRIS: He does get to train while you have to fend off assassins and fight a clone army. I mean, how many wrestlers can you just eradicate with eye lasers?
Jeremiah is silent, almost as if he were counting in his head.
CAPTAIN HARRIS: It isn’t a fight to the death.
Jeremiah’s expression falls, but not really. He smirks.
JEREMIAH VASTRIX: Damn. I was hoping I could just burn a hole through Death Trap too. I guess I’ll just have to face him the old fashioned way. It’s worked so far this tournament.
CAPTAIN HARRIS: You’ve been lucky so far. Think luck will carry you to the finale?
JEREMIAH VASTRIX: I would sure hope so. I mean luck does beat hard work and determination. Right?
Captain Harris just gives Jeremiah a stern look as he shakes his head “No”.
CAPTAIN HARRIS: You have it backwards. We’ll get you into training after this mission. I mean you have had basic shocktrooper training? Yes?
JEREMIAH VASTRIX: And a little bit of advanced training before I was kicked out of the program for, as they put it, inciting an orgy one night. I wasn’t even involved in it. Not directly anyway. I just encouraged it...a little. Ok, a lot. They were under a lot of stress!
CAPTAIN HARRIS: That’s the point of advanced training, Jeremiah. To apply stress to the recruits to see if they break or pass with flying colors.
A beep goes over the communicators in the room as the pilot gets everyone’s attention.
PILOT: ETA Five minutes! First strike is getting into position now!
Everyone who wasn’t buckled down, immediately get buckled into seats lining the sides of the cargo hold. Jeremiah puts his cell phone away in the utility belt around his waist. He closes his eyes, tapping into the satellite currently looking down upon the facility in question. He watches as the assault choppers get into position and get their clearance to open fire.
Jeremiah watches with interest as missiles streak to their targets. Guard shacks, local power transformers, gun emplacements, camera banks, and so on are targeted. Explosions rock the large building as the lights go out as the transformers are destroyed.
CAPTAIN HARRIS: We’re going to drop in by the Receiving Dock. Weapons hot!
Jeremiah Vastrix gets his weapon ready. It’s an assault rifle with an underslung grenade launcher. He braces himself as the helicopter comes to a landing, the assault choppers continuing their bombardment as shocktroopers come out to fight back.
The ramp comes down to let the soldiers spill out, one of which carries a rpg launcher. Jeremiah watches as the man sets himself and fires the rocket at the receiving door to destroy it. Shocktroopers spill out of it, only to be gunned down by other shocktroopers. To the casual observer, it looks like a civil war of the Star Wars Empire, but to those with HUD in their helmets, glasses, or cybernetic eyes...it’s red targets for the enemy and green for allies. Jeremiah shoots a few of the enemy down, letting the other shocktroopers from his transport lead the way.
The other two transports put down at other sides of the building and work their way inside as well. The defenses are quickly overwhelmed, surrendering when they know they’re defeated.
Jeremiah walks into the control room that overlooks the test tubes that contain thousands of Tarrasques that are not ready yet. Captain Harris enters the room as Jeremiah lights up a cigarette.
CAPTAIN HARRIS: The back up generator is being engaged now.
As he speaks this, the lights and computers come on. Several shocktroopers are in with the test tubes, setting up explosive charges. Jeremiah locates the main computer and plugs in a flash drive. A Loading screen pops up as what’s in the flash drive loads into the computer.
JEREMIAH VASTRIX: Computer virus that will destroy all files.
Captain Harris places a pack of c4 plastic explosives onto the computer tower with a smile.
CAPTAIN HARRIS: And this will ensure once those files are deleted that nothing will ever reconstruct them.
Jeremiah smiles, his way is more stylish, but he can’t argue the principal as files have been known to be recovered even when destroyed by the right person.
JEREMIAH VASTRIX: This is how I will defeat Death Trap.
CAPTAIN HARRIS: Erase his brain and blow him up?
JEREMIAH VASTRIX: No. I’ll outwit him and then bring him down with the Down Low. There’s nothing he can do that I cannot puzzle out with the database and do better. Let’s do some training when we get back to base, but I think I have this.
CAPTAIN HARRIS: Good. Let’s get out of here.
Captain Harris and Jeremiah Vastrix lead people out of the building and onto the transport. Prisoners sitting in the middle of the cargo hold. The three transports get into the air to a decent height before the charges are detonated. Major portions of the building explode while Jeremiah scans the building in the aftermath.
No signs of life.
JEREMIAH VASTRIX: The owner of this facility wasn’t in the building. Now to track him down and see if the trail leads to Cardinal Urizar. First up? Death Trap.
