Boy I started on the bottom, made my way to the top
Boy I'm gon' keep winning, no I cannot stop
'Member I had a little, (I did) turned that shit to a lot
Always been one hundred, put that on my block
The scene begins during a commercial break on MCCW’s recent taping of Thursday Night Voltage, as the crowd are still hot off of an impactful match with Shane Thompson and Jay Carter, the sudden sounds of Inception by Hans Zimmer breaks the silence from the crowd as they cheer loudly for “The Iconic Prince”, he steps out from the curtain and stands a top of the ramp as he raises his hand high before dropping it and making his way to the ring.
ALEISTER MAYFIELD
“Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome my guest tonight… He is MCCW’s representative for the X*Crown Match at End of Days and is The Iconic Prince… MAVERICK!”
Maverick rolls underneath the bottom rope before getting back onto his feet, he circles the ring before walking over to Aleister Mayfield to stand beside him.
ALEISTER MAYFIELD
“Pleasure having you here, Maverick, glad you could come for an interview.”
MAVERICK
“Aleister, the pleasure is all mine and to be here for Ignition and to watch all these new-coming talents to MCCW perform… Its been a great night.”
ALEISTER MAYFIELD
“It has indeed. In just a few short days, you’ll be facing three men for the X*Crown. Subject Forty Two, Bobby Barratt and Psychotic Goth. Please, Maverick, do tell us how you feel entering this match?”
Maverick takes the microphone from Aleister, swirling it around in his hands before raising the microphone to his mouth.
MAVERICK
“Well well well, Aleister, this Sunday would be the hardest challenge I’ve ever stepped in. Think about it this way, when you face three of the best in this network and you put them into one match, you’ve got one hell of a match right there. The Vortex has been something I've been focusing on heavily, although I may not show it for the camera, it’s been the prime directive on my mind. The Vortex is very much similar to Night of Champions’ Tower Match, and with the man who won that match being here to face me on Sunday, it’s unpredictable if he’s able to do the same thing again.”
ALEISTER MAYFIELD
“Speaking of that man you mention, Subject Forty Two has been proven as a dominant force not only within Destiny Wrestling but in the XHF too. As someone who is almost half his weight and height, what is your game plan going into this match with Subject?”
Maverick takes a moment to think of an answer to such a difficult question.
MAVERICK
“I won’t lie. He’s been proven to not only himself but everyone else that he’s a monster, or even a freak so to speak. But the more I watch Subject matches, the more I see a pattern. Subject near enough finishes matches in near enough five moves, three if he’s that damn lucky on the night, but I’ve been taking notice that once the opponent takes their first strike and aren’t allowing Subject to strike… They always seem to come up the winner. Yuki Sakaraba did it, Thomas Galloway did it, and even last season, Aleister. Vincent Draven did it and Johnny Bulldog did it. The more you strike down onto Subject, the quicker he is to go down.”
ALEISTER MAYFIELD
“So your strategy for Subject is to hit hard and make sure he doesn’t get up?”
MAVERICK
“That’s the beauty of it all, Aleister. The quicker you have a man like Subject’s size and weight fall, the better of a chance you have and with that chance, you need to take it carefully and wisely. Because I’ve also seen Subject come back into the match and strike down with great force even after the beating he took, so I have to keep that in mind that even when down, he’s still dangerous. I could kill that man and make him bleed out on the ground, and he could come out of nowhere and Spear me out of my boots. So I have to target his weakness, I have to fight with whatever I’ve got.”
ALEISTER MAYFIELD
“Would you mind telling the folks here and at home what is Subject’s weaknesses? For us, we didn’t even know he had any.”
MAVERICK
“Oh he does, Aleister, he sure does.”
Nodding his head as he says that last comment.
MAVERICK
“Subject has one strength, and then, Subject has one weakness. His only strength is the power he possesses, ask anyone and they’ll tell you that you would feel like you’ve been run over by a truck. You could feel your soul exiting your body once he spears you, you could feel yourself going six feet under when he drops you with a Choke Bomb. His strength is strength, but then you look at his weakness, and it’s exactly what it says on the tin. He’s weak. Subject can give away the pain, but he cannot take the pain. We look back to his one on one bout with Thomas Galloway, Subject was defenseless against him, Galloway went straight for the head at all times and then finished him off with a Curb Stomp off the top. His weakness is his own weakness. With every good thing about Subject to make himself a toughened fighter, there’s always something to take away that’ll give anyone open season to try and target.”
ALEISTER MAYFIELD
“I couldn’t have said it better than yourself, Maverick.”
MAVERICK
“So at the End of Days Finals, I’m going to give Subject my all. I am a high-paced man with amazing charisma, I can bounce all over the place and use it to my advantage in whatever way I can, I ain’t afraid of heights! I will jump from fifteen, twenty, twenty-five feet in the air if I have to take them all down, especially Subject. I’ve made a promise that I won’t let that big bastard win again and I will keep that promise well and true to my heart, to you Aleister, and to all of MCCW. I promised you that I will bring the X*Crown to where it should be and that’s MCCW. I know you picked me for a reason, Aleister.”
ALEISTER MAYFIELD
“I did indeed. Now, what about the other men in this match, Bobby Barratt and Psychotic Goth. Bobby is a man you’ve known for quite a while, and Goth is a dark horse in all of this, tell me how it’ll feel sharing the ring with someone you know too well and someone you know nothing about?”
MAVERICK
“That itself is a very difficult question to answer, not because I don’t know how to answer it but I don’t know how the outcome could affect us in the end. Psychotic Goth, I’ve seen him compete in Fired Up, and I know how well he can wrestle… to a certain extent but that’s far from the point. I’ve already described him as Vincent Draven, if you bought him at a discount store or on Craigslist for the matter. Goth tries his best to be as spooky as he could be, and with the season being Halloween, almost a few short days away from it… I can see why. Though I feel like he’s not ready for what’s to come at End of Days, Aleister.”
ALEISTER MAYFIELD
“How so, Maverick?”
He raises his finger into the air, wiggling it around before tapping on his head.
MAVERICK
“Intelligence, my good man. You see, Goth has been trying his best to not show me much about him, that I can say is the only intelligent move he’s done throughout these past few weeks. Aleister, all I have seen him do is make a ‘gift’ for Nausicaa Suzuki and we never got to see it, which is a shame and such a tease for everyone including Nausicaa herself. Then you have him calling Subject an Area, like Area 51, like who does that? For someone who talks in an ancient English dialect, he doesn’t seem to know how to fucking read. But then he starts calling him ‘Agent 42’ and although I do get the reference he’s going for, it’s nowhere near as intelligent as he tries to be. But then, Aleister, I look back through those videos and I notice two things. First thing I noticed was something he said, and that was the words ‘End of Days Tournament’. This fucker thought the X*Crown Match was the fucking tournament itself… Oh my god, you could nit make this up. And then I take a look at the title of his first, and it reads ‘Londo shall fall’. In my head right now, I’m trying to think of two possibilities for this mistake. One being that he is as dumb as he looks, he can’t read or spell and doesn’t understand the fucking logic of the match he’s entering or the fucking logic of this entire month of shows! Goth should really be someone I shouldn’t be bothered to talk about or he’s making these jokes, trying to make people pity laugh and hoping that their laughter at his fucking stupidity would hopefully get him some sort of fan advantage going into the Emirates this Sunday.”
Shakes his head in disgust.
MAVERICK
“And this is the same man who tried to call me out on ditching AWF for another place, like Infinity Realms Wrestling or Master Class Championship Wrestling, and then calling me a coward in the process… How pathetic of you to call me a coward, eh? The more you talk, Goth, the more stupid you look and that’s your own doing. When I left AWF, I didn’t go to IRW by choice, I was brought there forcefully. I was teleported to the Infinity Realms where I was trapped for months until I finally escaped from that hellhole, and even then I knew my place wasn’t with AWF. I had done enough there to be proud of who I am but that’s not the reason, the real reason was because I needed to be amongst the best on the XHF right now and not with the same four people who all hug that shitty Prestige Championship title scene. Chris Card, Seth Dillinger, Drago, Hyperion… I’m always getting thrown into the wolves and I’m always the one who’s getting scarred and bruised. So when I did eventually came back from the Realms, I remembered one night in particular before I took my break, and that event was Master Clash. MCCW’s first ever Pay Per View before Night of Champions 10.”
Smiling as he remembers back to that night.
MAVERICK
“On that night, I knew that was the show that’ll put MCCW on the map, Goth, and I knew that if I were to eventually leave AWF… and trust me it was going to be sooner than later, I knew MCCW was the place for me when I was ready to wrestle. Goth, you’d only know this if you actually done some fucking research on me, not going by other people’s word and then call me the exile or the wanderer. I found my home and it’s with the very fucking best roster the XHF would have ever seen.”
Looking over to Aleister with a simple nod.
MAVERICK
“Goth, we may have forgotten about you but now I’ve given you a little insight into why we have done exactly that. You’ve given us no insight as to the sort of person you are, and that’s where your fall begins and ends. You lack a personality, you lack a fucking conscience, and you lack the fucking intelligence to even be compared to either me, Bobby and Subject. It’s safe to say that you might as well not even exist in this match, because nobody knows who the fuck you are and it’ll be the same outcome after Sunday… They still won’t know who the fuck you are, and with good reason, because they will laugh at the joke that’s named The King of The Goths.”
ALEISTER MAYFIELD
“That was a very intense speech there, Maverick, very intense indeed. But I do have to ask, what about Bobby? This is the same man who you used to be shoulder to shoulder with once before, but now with his allegiance being with LGBTKO, this must be a slight heartbreak for you.”
MAVERICK
“It took me a while to come to terms with it, I can’t deny it. Not only has my best friend within wrestling just turn his back on me, but he’s done something I’d never thought he’d do… Join forces with my closest enemy, Seth Dillinger. The Icons were a band of brothers, a group that were to go against the common authority of AWF and the XHF in it’s entirety. That’s what The Icons were, but now, I lack that Icon feeling. As does Bobby, by the looks of things lately. That’s why The Icons died, that’s why I burned my jacket after AWF’s show last Sunday, that’s why I’ve been all offense on Bobby. Of course, joining LGBTKO was only Bobby’s idea to have me scared knowing he’s being best friends with Seth now, but that doesn’t scare me. If this was a year ago, I would have been but I fear nothing, I don’t fear a bunch of homosexual men and one straight guy.”
ALEISTER MAYFIELD
“But I do have to say, LGBTKO have been racking up the win and the numbers, they are one of the stronger forces within AWF right now. The inclusion of Bobby Barrratt could have been the cherry on top of it all.”
MAVERICK
“The inclusion of Bobby Barratt makes no fucking sense whatsoever. ‘The B stands for Bobby’ they said, how fucking childish could you possibly get? I remember when Bobby did anything he could to intimidate his opponents, and that’s my game plan now, he’s got to realise that he’s not who he really is. This new leaf he’s turned has ruined him, ruined his reputation, ruined his image. Bobby, I have to ask, what ever happened to The Prodigy? Remember that name? Because I sure fucking do.”
Maverick pauses, thinking back to all those years ago when they first met.
MAVERICK
“The Prodigy was the same man I’d always take a beating from. The Prodigy was the same man that hit me with Debra, his lovely baseball bat that he’d always used to get a point across, by just being interviewed for an upcoming match. The Prodigy was the same sadistic bastard that I took inspiration from, that’s where I got my fearless personality from. That’s where I got that persona in me that unleashes total anarchy on anyone I shared the ring with. The Prodigy is the same man as who I am right now, I am the next incarnation of The Prodigy and I know for a fucking fact I can make you snap, Bobby. You know and I know that you don’t belong where you are now, you’ve become this man who’s been trying so hard to be America’s Sweetheart but is trying so hard to hold that inner you back. You know… the one that always kicked the crap out of me? The Prodigy? If not, then I’m going to beat it out of you then.”
Aleister looks down at his watch, noticing that the intermission is almost over.
ALEISTER MAYFIELD
“Well, Maverick, I’m afraid our time is up as we continue on with the show. Thank you for joining me and good luck with this Sunday, we’ll be cheering you on!”
Maverick nods, before rolling out of the ring and heading to the back as the scene comes to a close.
October 26th.
The scene opens to the darkness of the night, the sounds of the wind blowing through become clear and the sounds of a car pulling up to wherever we seem to be breaks the silence. It’s front lights illuminating some grass, like a forest of sorts, until it shines onto a gravestone. One becomes three, and then a dozen until we realise that we’ve entered a cemetery in the dead of night. As we get a shot from inside the car, the dashboard clock reads 3:18 A.M as the driver slowly parks up to a very decorative gravestone. The driver unbuckles his seatbelt, opening the door and heading out of the car, closing the door behind him. Then the driver heads in front of the headlights, showing this man in a black suit as he stares at the gravestone in front of him. Then the next shot is an up and close one to the gravestone… The name reading Jenny Stackhouse. Then the camera pans upwards to show the man being Maverick himself, up in the early hours of Saturday morning in Walsall’s Ryecroft Cemetery. Maverick wears his blacked out Armani suit and holds a bunch of flowers in his hand. Placing it down by the gravestone, beside the picture of Jenny with Bobby just after Bobby’s first AWF Championship reign back in December 2017. Maverick kneels down, without an expression on his face as he stares at the gravestone and the picture itself.
MAVERICK
“Jenny… how times have changed without you. It feels like yesterday when we’ve had our last friendly chat together, when we talked about what we wanted to do if we ever moved away from the wrestling business. You said you wanted to move away to somewhere sunny with Bobby and enjoy life to it’s fullest, you wanted to spend time with the one you loved the most and even though I said he never felt the same with you at that time, you had your hopes he did.”
Maverick sniffs, his emotions seemingly broken.
MAVERICK
“I’ll never forget it, that night in particular. The night I told you to go find Bobby and find out if he still cared about you, if he still loved you enough to take you back… What I didn’t expect that night was to hear you getting involved in a hit and run, what killed you in front of Bobby. I’ve kept it a secret from him for so long, I couldn’t bare to see him crumble into a broken man if I told him that, he’d hate me with a burning passion. I guess we’ve all kept our secrets, Jenny. The ones we never want to tell anyone, like you and Bobby’s secret with the miscarriage, I did feel bad letting that all out after it was said and done.”
A slight tear drop falling down from his eye.
MAVERICK
“I just wished you were here, he’s never been the same since you left. He retired Jack for good, hell, he dedicated that show to you… You would have loved it, Jenny, you really would have loved it. He’s been distant from me, and now he’s teaming with the same man who was a thorn in our sides, which is not like him at all. You’d agree, if you were still here, Jenny.”
He wipes the tears from his eyes, trying to gain back composure.
MAVERICK
“But that’s not what why I’m here, Jenny, I just wanted to tell you what I’m going to do with Bobby this Sunday…”
Pausing for a moment, rubbing the back of his neck.
MAVERICK
“This Sunday we’re competing for the X*Crown, and although I warned him multiple times that I won’t pull back any punches, he calls me the disrespectful one. He made this personal, he made me say what I’ve said before and what I’ll say again if I have to. I knew I had to come back here to Ryecroft... to find you. I knew you would have been the one to bring back The Prodigy in him, and with the way he is now, I want that Bobby back. But until then, he’ll have to live with the fact that his actions have consequences.”
Maverick gets up and walks back to his car, reaching into the backseat and pulling out a sledgehammer. He walks back over to the gravestone, sledgehammer in hand as he kneels down once again.
MAVERICK
“I told that man that I would come here to his exact spot and do unthinkable things if he doesn’t shut his fucking mouth and of course with Bobby, he didn’t. I can’t say I didn’t warn him but I did, he even said to try it, what more do I do with that, Jenny? Until he realizes that he needs to snap out of his little fucking trance that he’s a good man, a changed man… He won’t have a lover to look at when he comes back to Walsall.”
Maverick gets back up, slowly walks over to the gravestone and leans over, kissing the marble stone before taking a few steps back.
MAVERICK
“Jenny, I’m so sorry for what I’m about to do. But this is what he wanted, not me, I never intended to do this.”
He brings the sledgehammer up, looking down at the gravestone with tears in his eyes.
MAVERICK
“I love you, Jenny, ‘til we meet again…”
The sobbing Maverick swings, cracking the gravestone of Jenny Stackhouse. Then he raises it up high again, taking another swing leaving a big chunk from it to fall off. He raises the sledgehammer up once more, swinging it and this time it’s a direct hit… The gravestone is broken in half, the only lettering left reads “Death: July 2018”. Maverick drops to his knees, looking to the grave of Jenny with tears as he wipes them away.
MAVERICK
“I hope now he gets the message now, Jenny, I hope now he realizes what he’s done.”
He then gets back up to his feet and looks towards the car, looking into the camera with a sinister smirk on his face. His entire mood changed.
MAVERICK
“Now, Bobby… Now what is your game plan? I’ve just destroyed the love of your life's grave and you’re going to do nothing about it, correct? This is what you’ve started, this is what you’ve made me become. I’m more sadistic, I’m more crazed, I’m… just like The Prodigy, but that name is outdated. Way too outdated. Now, I have fully become The Prince… of Immortality. The real me. And after Sunday, you will remember me.”
The smirk becomes a smile for one final message.
MAVERICK
“They will remember the name of Maverick, the next XHF X*Crown Champion, and that... is a fucking fact.”
Maverick walks out of the camera shot, opening and slamming the car door shut as we hear it’s engine revving up before we see him driving away. The final shots we see are from a clear frame flashback, when all three Icons surrounded Jenny Stackhouse in her final moments until that image fades to what Jenny Stackhouse’s grave looks like now, broken into crumbling pieces of marble in the dead of night as the scene fully fades to black.
