1. What's your real name?
Josh Moyer
2. Unlike where some people have chosen one of their wrestler names as their Profile name. This is not the case with BrainScratch. Outside of the simple explanation that this shortens to BS, why did you choose this name?
"Brain Scratch" is the title of a Cowboy Bebop episode. The fact it becomes BS is a happy little accident, like Bob Ross would say.
3. Mind that even though you're using BrainScratch now, you used to have the Profile name of Squiggy (and a wrestler of the same name). So that the common person here knows, why Squiggy?
Squiggy was a nickname I got in middle school (I had a friend named Lenny...), and used it as my first online handle. When I started fedding soon after, I couldn't think of a better name. It worked out pretty well for Squiggy the character, as he had some quick success as a small rookie babyface, and gained a nickname in "The Miracle Kid".
4. When did you begin Fantasy Wrestling and how long have you been doing this?
I started 12 years ago in the summer of 2002 in EWA (a fed that vastrix was also in). Then moved over to NWC with most of its roster in 2003 I think. In 2004 I also joined LCW Mercury until it folded (and reopened and reclosed). There were some other short stops along the way, including UCW in '07-'08. After that I was out of the game until Allen here showed me FedWars in 2012. I roleplayed for a few months but didn't stick. Finally, I returned in February of this year.
5. Which one of your characters is your favorite and why?
Isaiah Zepp. He's my take on a Raven-type personality, spun with the vigilantism of The Punisher comics, and mixed with my loves of philosophy, symbolism, and terrible movies. He's crazy enough to think he can change the world, smart enough to know the small steps to start, charismatic enough to make people believe in him, but good-natured enough to not become completely evil with these tools. His young sister Cecelia has also stopped him from crossing that line a few times. I created Zepp in 2007, but didn't think I had the fuel to write him correctly again until recently. So far, so good.
6. What's your favorite character owned by another player?
It would take forever to choose a favorite writer, but character? Kwyjibo! Definitely Kwyjibo.
7. If you could own a currently established fed, what would it be and why?
Not sure if it counts as 'currently established', but CLAW. The original run was ridiculous fun, and I'd love a chance to recapture that. Even the strat game earlier this year was cool. In fact, let's just drag Mookie away from his real life to bring back the fun. WE WANT MOOKIE! WE WANT MOOKIE!
8. Who was your favorite feud with and why?
It's a tough question, so I'll give two.
(A) In NWC, Squiggy transitioned from "The Miracle Kid" to "The Paradigm", an entitled World champion with an inferiority complex who would do anything to keep the belt. There was one man, Assassin, who was always championship-caliber but mostly stayed in the Tag Team scene with his best friend, Pak. Squiggy injures Pak, so Assassin goes on a months-long tear through everyone that Squiggy can throw at him, until finally getting a one-on-one match in Assassin's hometown of Pontiac, MI and making the champ submit. This story was special to me because I wrote most the matches, and the finishes all lead to call-back spots in the title match. Also because Assassin/Darnell was the perfect guy to build up like that.
(B) In LCW Mercury, we would say most rookies came up through the "Lethal Academy", a school run by former LCW wrestler Venom. One rookie, Blake Grumann, became successful immediately upon his promotion to the roster. He also showed an eagerness to injure opponents for his own pleasure. In a sparring session on his graduation day from the Academy, Grumann causes Venom to have a heart attack and smiles about it. Some time later I had a character debut, Jake Stephens. Jake was a cruiserweight and didn't win nearly as often as Grumann, but when they're finally booked against each other, Jake gets a small measure of revenge for Venom by bloodying and defeating Blake. Ditch, the owner of Merc and writer of Blake, was great at integrating simple storylines into big matches.
9. What feds are you currently in? Are you looking at expanding to others?
I'm in nGw with Zepp and Joy Fantastic, in Chaos Destiny with Iro Waters and Mr. Clowny, and if EWF is still kicking I'm there with Aaron Putnam. Don't have enough time for others.
10. In a perfect world where you had time to write whatever you wanted, what feds are you not a part of that you would like to join? Or rather, what feds interest you?
Hahaha, all of them. RSW is the new hotspot so that's intriguing. I had fun in WrestleWars the first time so that'd be a given. GRW seems to be turning things around so I'd give them another try. Also, I like zombies so Z-Games. I even have a character in mind for Slamalot if the mood ever strikes me, and one for Slater Pro if it continues.
11. Have you been in a feud so thick with emotion that you felt as much anger toward the Handler as well as wrestler?
I've been angry at plenty of handlers in the past, but never because of a character feud. It's two separate things. When our characters hate each other, good things happen.
12. If you could improve the efedwrestling.com site in any way (without returning game elements), what would you do?
I wish we could still leave a comment on a RP even after its show is posted, sometimes I don't get a chance to read everything before then. And to echo some previous people, a search feature for characters and handlers would be nifty.
13. I think you had toyed with creating a Comedy based eFed to fill the void left by C.L.A.W. Can you tell us more about this idea? The name and how it would be run if not straight up wrestling.
Brain Scratch Entertainment is still an idea kicking around. It would be a fledgling local fed that barely gets by and also mimics WWE's silly bullcrap, so the goal would be something similar to CLAW and Chikara. I also have ideas for a more standard fed, and might use Firepro for a sim fed... What may happen, is a combination of these ideas under one umbrella to create a weird variety. But right now I wouldn't have the time, so in the meanwhile I'll keep trying to up my RP game and pitch in with matchwriting so people know what they'd see from me.
14. Every fed owner has a wish list for handlers, and sometimes even a wish list of characters from those particular handlers. What is your wish list?
In no particular order, people from here: Pauly, PT, Mookie, Apathy, Valora, Kronin, Riot, Vient, Mitch, Summeroff, Bernie, Reverend Shane, Jesse Styles, and the guy conducting this interview. Characters from the past: Justin Sayne, Assassin, Pak, Chaos, Zylo, Harbinger, Dean Wallace, Vincent Picasso, Mike Renner, Rook Black, Sonny Silver, Vermin, Jack Furlong, "The Icon" Rick Idol, Jack Dod, Spunk, Scott Slaney, Parker Davis, Bill Masters... Yeah that'd be a ridiculously stacked thinktank of minds right there.
15. What do you do when you're not efedding? Other hobbies, job, and such? Married, single, kids?
I work in the deli department of a supermarket. Hobbies include Paintball, video and board games, and I dabble in music – some guitar and some synth tracking. My girlfriend and I have been living together since October last year. Everyone keeps saying we'd have cute kids but
16. What is your favorite fed?
My favorite fed ever was LCW Merc, with psychology-heavy matches between a roster of realistic characters. I had the most fun with the EWA/NWC crew.
17. Ok. A movie is being planned with who do you think would best be able to play this person?
Clowny is basically Bobcat Goldthwait. Ellen Paige (circa Juno) was one of the inspirations for Joy. A younger Denzel Washington could pull off Isaiah. Soley based on Guardians of the Galaxy, Chris Pratt might work for Waters.
18. You'll keep getting pestered with this from me forever, but when will we see the likes of Squiggy, Lei Zhe, and Lou Zhe again?
Squiggy and LEI are still battling in an Explosive Barbwire Deathmatch somewhere along the pacific rim I guess... That's a long story to retell, and maybe one day I will. Lou is probably living in a dumpster behind a Burger King. Or even worse, an Olive Garden.
Thanks for reading everyone!
