A day or two after we last heard from Mike Lio, we find him in the middle of a large warehouse somewhere in memphis. In the background this song can be heard playing. "Hail to the king" by avenged sevenfold. Scattered all around him in a large circle are legos. hundreds of them. Lio is dressed wearing only a pair of wrestling trunks. Y'know the kind that looks like a speedo. Staring directly ahead with no fear, he steps towards the camera walking on the legos as he does so, showing no form of pain or grimace on his face. As the camera looks on, he jumps backwards, landing hard on his back on more legos. The camera switches to a top down perspecitve, showing him laying on the legos...seeming to enjoy doing this.
"This....this is nothing. You think legos can hurt me? I've been in matches with far worse implements! Like I said before. I know how to hurt people. Using Chairs.....barbed wire.....lighttubes....tables. Hell even the ring itself! Maverick.....you talk a big game, but the question is if you have the intestinal fortitude....if you have the BALLS to survive this match. Personally I dont think you do. Theres a reason you were known as the iconic prince after all. I mean, sure you proclaim to be a king in your kingdom....but I'll be the one to burn it down. Thats what you fail to comprehend maverick, with all the talk that you do. Me? I talk a big game too. But when push comes to shove, i've proven myself. Time and again! And when i've lost, i've owned up to it and come back stronger than ever. I continue to push ahead. To better myself. To make myself into the man you see before you."
He grabs two fistfulls of the legos and casually drops them onto his chest....as if he were bathing in legos...
"You see maverick, heres my question to you. You were known as the man who put it all on the line, for the audience. The man who did what others wouldn't or couldn't do. I know that. I've seen some of your matches. Hell, I even went back and watched that Vortex match you were in, back at EOD.....a match which I might add, gave Bobby barrett the very X*Crown title you won. So I guess the question becomes about your ability to withstand punishment....do I just need to plant you through a table covered with legos to take you out of the match? Or perhaps smack with across the face with a steel chair that has legos glued onto it? I am willing to spend hours gluing thumbtacks onto *EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THESE LEGOS THAT SURROUND ME* if I think it'll help me win."
He stands up abruptly, letting the legos fall around him. Staring directly into the camera he looks as if he means business
"And I am well aware that you aren't the only man in this match. I do however, consider you both the most dangerous man, *and* at the same time, the least threatening man, in this match. What makes you dangerous Maverick, is your youth. Compared to the rest of us, I feel that you do have the stamina and ability to outlast the rest of us.....*IF* this were a normal wrestling match. But this isn't, is it? No no....this is a deathmatch. This is a match that *WILL* leave a permanent impact on your body. But I know you're familiar with this. Familiar with the feeling of leaving it all in the ring, returning home to your....choice of beverage. Reflecting on what went on in the match. What you did well, and what you could have improved on. And that itself, is what I feel makes you the least threatening man in this match. What you lack compared to the rest of us, especially in this kind of a match, is experience. The experience of having your head damn near caved in by a tire iron. Or your body slashed by barbed wire. Or welted by a steel chair. Or a table."
"Any man can go the distance. Any man can go up top and wow the audience with high flying antics. But few men dare to try and wow the audience by leaping off a ladder, onto their opponent. Or through a table. Because such men who do this too often, become branded. Labeled such derisve terms as "spot monkey" for example. People begin to think that's all he can do. All he's known for. All he's *good* for. I think you know exactly what I mean, "king". Theres another term though that I think fits you just as well maverick. "Workhorse". As the saying goes, always a bridesmaid, never a bride. Your legacy speaks for itself. You *were* the man that could be counted on to put on a good match. To make your opponents look good. And to put butts into seats. But to win? No. At least, not when it mattered. Leave the title reigns, the *big* title reigns, to your superiors. Men like Seth Dillinger, and Bobby Barrett. Jack Diamond, and Jackson Steele. Speaking of Jack diamond, that was another match I watched of yours...the Xtreme Elevation cage match for the X*Crown from global dominance back in 2018....and another match you lost."
"So that's 2 deathmatches you lost....both on XHF ppvs.....both for the X*Crown. And when you finally won the X*Crown how was it done? In a one on one match. At an AWF supershow. *He shakes his head and tut tuts.* You see Maverick, history has a nasty habit of repeating itself. I think that's exactly what is going to happen here. I might win, but then again, I might not win. But one thing I believe I can be sure of, is that you, once again, will come out the loser. The self proclaimed "king" will come out the loser, like always. Like your legacy, your history has shown."
He turns his back to the camera and starts walking towards the exit, before stopping. He turns his head over his shoulder, and the camera pans in for an up close of his face. This time, the usual smile isnt there. He's all business.
"The king is dead. Long live the king."
END FEED.
