For me it’s a massive inconvenience. I’m a freelancer that works like an hour here, an hour there usually
Well pretty much everything has come to a grinding halt as most companies are trying to avoid outside exposure and unnecessary risks. Which is fine, I get that. But my pay is by-the-hour and I can’t pick up any new work
But hey, that’s the price of safety- for them
For me? One of the places I work (two mornings and two evenings a week) hasn’t delayed my stuff. So even though I’m working very little I’m still taking an hour both ways on the most crowded subway line risking the virus
EVEN THAT might be fine except that my wife is on edge all the time since there’s people we’d rather not die or get possible lung damage (including each other)- so what could be a lot of rest is white-knuckling anxiety in our home
AND we had to stand in line twice just to buy some stupid masks- three hours the first time and two the second.
I’ve been more busy and stressed than I would have imagined. Today was the first sort of chill weekday since all this started.
In short, this virus sucks
(Also I’m worried that America is not ready for this)

Here in Portugal things are quite messed up. Everything is closing, there can only be 10 people in the supermarket at a time, schools are closed... but many people just don't respect the quarantine status we're under because they don't think they would be affected and Portuguese mentality doesn't help either. They can carry the virus even without knowing of it and infect other people who might die. At least breaking the quarantine is punished with prison as the law was changed recently, but then again... only if you know that you're infected is considered a crime.
I'm myself locked at home cause I have a chronic disease in my lungs and I'm afraid that this virus could kill me, is a big risk. My kid is 4 and was between life and death when he was born as he had a haemorrhage on his lungs, he is a premature baby. We aren't exactly rich and my main concern is that my wife is still working at the supermarket as she usually does. Government won't pay if she stays home since I have no source of income - I left my job because of the virus - so I'm obliged to stay with my kid at home and she has no excuse to miss work and if she does government won't cover it financially because of it.
So I'm really stressed, paranoid and getting depressed with all this BS. I try my best to distract myself and being with the kiddo helps, but I'm always afraid that my wife gets infected and brings the infection home. These are hard and concerning times for us but at least I have my kid and my beautiful wife.
I also suffer for those who died and those who might die. People are dying alone in a hospital room or at home because visitors are not allowed, which is one of my biggest fears... to die in loneliness.
Maybe I'm too negative - despite of being able to hide it very well - but this is a reality that some people aren't even facing or they don't want to face, which I respect either way you are free to deal with it the way you want it... But Luck in my life is rare and I always expect the worse so all that happens is positive. I sincerely hope that my beloved ones stay healthy, you guys in the community too. I just don't hope everyone stays healthy cause that isn't possible. Although I have faith that we will overcome this pandemic quickly as possible.
I deleted this post several times - I barely know any of you here besides Mongo to who I talk and vent often and is weird to share all this with you - I'm the family head so I need to be strong and can't show any weakness at home but I feel better now that I got this out of my chest and if any of you feels something negative in his life... just share it, no f***s given, at least it makes us feel lighter. I don't feel so comfortable about it, but maybe this can motivate others to do the same.

President trump didn't take the crisis seriously and look what happens. The whole school system was closed down and I won't be able to work again until the end of the month thanks to the coronavirus. Add to the one month closure of my school due to asbestos (The school reopened in mid-January didn't help) Yet it's understandable since safety is more important than being careless. Knowledge is the most important way to keep people from panicking. As for pro-wrestling WWE held nXt in their performance center with a live audience but Smackdown was held in an empty performance center. I think RAW will also do the same and I think nXt will do the same this week.

I work at a specialist hospital right next to a large general hospital in the US and have been getting respiratory infections no less than once a month for the last 6 months. Four in August. I'm under 35 so I should be low risk but the evidently compromised immune system makes me nervous.
The last two weeks were unusually stressful at work but on Friday they finally said those that can work from home should. Currently in PJs. They've also taken the unusual step of canceling non-urgent appointments. It could be a plan to convert the specialty hospital into a general hospital since beds are very limited in the US and we will need all medical professionals not currently in quarantine. Yay for admin work.
Regarding someone coming home from work, I know of people who are coming home and immediately taking their cloths off to be washed and taking a shower. Figuring if washing their hands is good then washing their whole bodies is better. I've also seen people wearing disposable gloves on public transportation.
Personally, I live in an apartment and every time I take the dog out,I wash my hands. I also don't wear street clothes into bed.

I like that idea H2F, taking a hot shower to eliminate anything is a good call. I'm sure an antibacterial soap or something like Dr. Bronners would be a good idea there too.
I'm living in Vancouver, Canada and honestly it's business as usual here. The PM closed the borders today to anyone non-Canadian, except US citizens. How this will help I've no idea, esp as Seattle is so close to us and is a total hotzone right now.
Our healthcare system is amazing but people are panicking here, go to ER for a regular cold and so on. A girl I know sprained her ankle and had to go get an x-ray, cast etc. She was in the waiting room for over 8 hours, because the backlog of people panicking or assuming they have it is holding everything up. People will get sick or injured with other things too people, so bear that in mind if you are going to occupy room/ time in a healthcare facility.
Lots of companies are beginning to encourage working from home but not everyone can get that option. Our construction industry is starting to die off rapidly, the company I was with is a start-up and everything went on pause because of this (essentially lay offs until this pandemic is over) so things like that suck. And let's not even mention the stocks and how much money people are losing here. It's a travesty.
I guess the best advice is follow the guidelines, stay in when you can, buy enough supplies to make sure you can stay comfortable at home for longer periods of the week, and don't panic with visiting doctors or buying bulk items like toilet paper, or last-minute visiting older family members before you get the virus (this is a thing, and this is why people are spreading it faster).
Think of it like a bad cold/ flu, stock up on meds and chicken soup and have enough toilet paper for like, a couple weeks or more. You don't need to be a sheep and follow the mass buying like everyone else. Stay calm and we'll get through this as normal.
Also St Patrick's Day is pretty much cancelled worldwide which is a huge bummer so make sure you have at least one drink available for tomorrow that you can have and share it with the rest of us on here! Sláinte!

On a more personal basis I find the mass panic that has been caused by the media to be laughable. Because in the same time frame that we've been following this virus in the states how many people have died 94 at the last time I counted do you know how many people died of H1 N1 in that same time frame 340 340 individuals passed away from complications of H1 N1 and no one panicked no one batted a single life there were no mobs in stores of people fighting over s*** rolls there was no hoarding of food there was no hoarding of hand sanitizer and yet here we are at the peak moment 2020 an election year and conveniently here comes a virus I thought you were that for the majority of us means absolutely nothing if we catch it will get sick and we'll move can you look at who but then you look at who's truly in danger his supporters the Boomers the very people who put him in office they are the most volatile they are the most at risk and he knows it he knows that have that age group search to dwindle down because of a virus he has no chance a re-election so what does he do he told the media to put people in mass panic to make him look like a hero there is no need for this and the fact that I can't go to the store and buy simple things for my family because the rest of the sheep have to panic well to the Sheep I say let them be slaughtered because I'm done with this my brain is at its breaking point because the amount of stupid that I have seen in a short time. Has left me numb to the suffering of others now that makes me come off as an a****** then so be it but if you truly believe that you need eight packages of 12-count rolls of toilet paper because of some virus but you refuse to buy medicine and vitamins to help build your immune system but you my friend are the a******

Well it kind of depends on your point of view, bulldunne, I agree with you when you say that people are being stupid with toilet paper and food hoarding. I've seen videos of people here in Portugal and my wife works at the supermarket and they make me sick, because they have no care for others and aren't being reasonable, why would you need 40 bottles of vegetable oil and leave the supermarket empty? Or 200 cans of beans? This people don't deserve to live in society because they don't care about other people needs, just being selfish. I did my normal monthly shopping and my wife had to go several times to the supermarket just to get 2\3 cans of beans like we usually do.
About the media is a completely different story.
Here in Portugal, we went from 41 infected to 331 and 5000 suspected in 2 days.
Italy went from 300 deaths to 2.503 deaths in 2/3 days and this numbers aren't in regression, China is quarantined for 4 months now...
The media creating mass panic is worldwide not only in United States. For me, personally, just 1 death is enough suffering, 2.503 lives is a big number. Imagine if one of your beloved ones die because of this virus, because some stupid douchebag is infected and doesn't know what quarantine means? I've lost my half-brother due to HIV, because an horrendous person infected him and other people he has been with in some sort of payback... "I will die from HIV?! I won't die alone!" type of thinking. Media has to be like that so that people really understand the risks of this virus and the spreading of it.
But what annoys me with media is that there are other "virus" that are present in our world for years... Like Hunger, thousands of people die from it daily. And nobody cares about it, nobody speaks about it. Children labour, slavery, etc, etc... And that's not important at all. I just hope that one day society in general opens their eyes and we can live like a big community, but that's just a dream. Rich and powerful people will never give up of their power to work for a greater good.... People are like this... FIRST PLACE, ME, THEN ME, THEN ME, THEN ME, ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME AND IF I DON'T NEED IT ANYMORE WHICH IS IMPOSSIBLE... I MIGHT THINK ABOUT OTHERS.
EDIT: Sorry for this little rant. Is not directed at any of you.

Oh, Yeah I agree 100% Here's somethings that actually happening in the states. Person is infected and his told to quarantine themselves. Person doesn't and goes to work. Why because if they don't they point out of the job and lose their health insurance needed to see a doctor to fight the virus. The sad reality is so many people live paycheck to paycheck that the idea of having to miss 2 weeks of work would but them on the streets.

The reason why no one panicked during the H1N1 virus was because the leadership appealed for calm during that crisis. This leadership blew it by denying there was a problem . I do agree that there's a n unnecessary panic and that people should get the true facts and knowledge instead of hoarding stuff thus depriving others of those same needs. Imagine what would happen if there was a real crisis and nobody could hoard anything. That would be so ironic wouldn't it.

You wanna know who the assholes are? Every person who for a month has been getting angry and saying 'JUST WASH YOUR HANDS, IDIOTS.' That was really [swearword] stupid, arrogant, and dangerous. In Asia we've been screaming for a month that washing your hands isn't enough. We knew that people were infected without showing symptoms. THAT'S HOW IT SPREADS SO FAST. Screaming, SCREAMING for America and Europe to listen. But no matter what channel my wife and I turned to, CNN, Fox, BBC all we heard was "wash your hands." Are you all that [swearword] racist? Oriental and exotic don't mean "small and dirty." People here wash their hands. The big jumps were from "healthy" people spreading the disease because they didn't know they were sick. But nope, "as long as you feel healthy you're probably fine and should do everything as normal." Now, NOW, they're finally saying "act as though you're already infected"- now that the US is jumping 1000 people a day and that's just the speed of the testing. And Europe is getting worse than China. "I'm not sick." Ok, well I'm glad you feel fine, but you could be the reason why somebody's loved ones die because you didn't think of anyone but yourself. That person is an asshole too. No, that person is a murderer because they couldn't look beyond their own stupid hands. "BUT I WASHED MY HANDS ITS NOT MY FAULT!" [string of curse words] I'm really disappointed in the west's response to this. And WHO too. But its not just the government, it's the people's fault too for believing stupid [swearword] propaganda. "Hey guys, I know it looks like Asia is a black hole of death, BUT IF YOU WASH YOUR HANDS YOU'LL BE FINE." People are dying because of that piss poor information block. Maybe it's not as many as other diseases, but it's people who didn't need to die

I do like to create story-lines but this one is too real not to share.
I was thinking... Where did this virus came from? China. Who is selling testing kits to the whole world? China. Who says they have a vaccine already? China. With that being said, this is an economical world even in front of a pandemic crisis. Prices are going up as more people die. Need grows. Need & supply! is a marketing strategy that never fails.
Probably that's why, it is so alarming and countries are in this quarantine when they haven't been before with other "virus" & outbreaks. China is at the top of the world now when we think about it. And surely world leaders don't want to be under China's mercy, so they hope they can stall this virus until they find a vaccine themselves or develop their own tools to contain it. Maybe this is just a small part of a bigger Chinese plan that the world doesn't want to allow.
I don't know man... it makes sense though.

I have heard nothing about China having the vaccine, lol. The news here is that several countries are working together on it. And it’s been a major point in the news that the test kits worldwide are largely locally developed and produced. Like the Korean and US ones actually test different things but get the same results
Would I put it past China to use wave after wave of their own men in some nefarious scheme? No, but as an American I was bred not to trust Russia or China, lol. It will be interesting to see who ends up actually profiting from the apocalypse though. As it stands it looks like a global depression is coming

Here in Portugal the news are that China developed a vaccine with success and will start human testing but they haven't said when this testing will start. All Europe is buying their testing kits to China, don't know about the US - still a great income.
Some other news that amaze me is Germany... I've been there and their health system is the best I've ever experienced or had heard of. They only have a mortality rate of 0.2%.
And personal news, my mom just got unemployed yesterday. She is 54 years old and a great professional - I know it because I've worked with her for 5/6 years in Germany - but that doesn't matter at all as you might know. My stepfather was fired as well as the restaurant where he works closed doors. So even if they sign up for unemployment welfare - nobody will hire you at this time - usually it takes 2\3 months until you receive some money to survive, with this pandemic it probably takes even longer... But government hasn't talked about this and there aren't any laws that protect workers in this regard. Bosses are scared of big losses, everything is shutting down and only basic services keep on running, people in Portugal live near a poverty status. Houses are way too expensive and we live paycheck to paycheck. If there isn't an answer in the near future, chaos will reign.
