Meh. Nothing can really be trusted. I work at a large hospital. I can't say which one caused I'd be fired if they found out. Had to sign non disclosure agreements and what not. Anyway. CNN reported about a month ago that we had no more room in the ICU. Beds were full of covid patients. We were just sending people home to die. The truth? We didn't have a single covid patient in the ICU at the time. Not a single one. So nothing can be trusted...especially the media

it's not as bad as people are making it out to be, but it is still something we can't take lightly. i think the mask wearing, social distancing, ect stuff is helpful to prevent this from becoming a real pandemic. right now it's not, but it could become one if we're all not careful.

the numbers are large, but last time i checked only 9% of the population in the US have it. that's not enough to be classified as a pandemic. it's still allot of people, but it's not a pandemic at this point. it's an epidemic at most right now.

They aren't designed to block viruses. Viruses go straight through them

COVID has hit my family in an incredibly profound way. I get very upset seeing people think it's a hoax or otherwise do not take it seriously. They have the privilege of not suffering anything beyond inconvenience.

Also the masks don't work. They aren't designed to block viruses. Viruses go straight through them They capture the moisture droplets in exhaled breath that carries the virus out and helps it spread, thus mitigating the spread. Also, look up what co-morbidities are, because that's where COVID is deadliest. It's unlikely to kill someone with a completely clean bill of health (though as I can personally attest, it fucks them somewhat), but it is incredibly dangerous to people who are already vulnerable.

For the record, I didn't lock this but agree with the locking.
Black/Blackstone/Warpig and Kira have given some misleading information- which is problematic
1. "Masks aren't designed to stop germ nor are the effective for stopping them"
True, mask design is not to stop germ-sized particles and the cloth masks in the US can't filter that small. However, as noted above, the coronavirus and its ilk travel via water droplets. Masks can be extremely effective in blocking these particles during things like talking or standing in close proximity. Populations using masks have shown much lower infection rates- I know because I live in one of those. Vigilance is key though. Every time we let our guard down the virus comes back
2. "It's not a true pandemic"
From the WHO: "A pandemic is defined as “an epidemic occurring worldwide, or over a very wide area, crossing international boundaries and usually affecting a large number of people”. The classical definition includes nothing about population immunity, virology or disease severity."
So false. This is effecting everyone and to try to downplay it encourages letting our guard down. 9% is a terrifying number
3. "Most didn't die directly from the virus"
Misleading. We're not talking "he had corona but fell off a ladder and died." Most deaths are in old people or people with underlying conditions. So the virus is pushing them past the breaking point. As Fox noted above- a healthy person might not die but might go through hell. On top of that, many are reporting continued issues after recovery (including cognitive issues). AIDS is similar. Usually it isn't the primary cause but still gets the credit
As far as CNN being inaccurate? I'll buy it. Generally if you want relatively unopinionated news straight from the source then Associated Press and Reuters are better sources
It comes down to this: If later we find out that masks, social distancing, and handwashing changed nothing, I'd rather have been wrong trying to keep people alive. And spreading falsehoods from the sidelines while not trying to help is dangerous and sort of evil
