Location: Parris Island, South Carolina the United States Marine Corps Training Base.
The scene opens up with Johnny Sniper standing in the middle of what is essentially a giant sandbox. As various amounts of young recruits are all down on their faces as a Drill Instructor yells at the to give him a decent push-up. Sniper looks at the DI and the DI just nods. Sniper places a boot in the back on young Marine.
DI: "Push! Come on push! He's not even putting any weight on you! Push!
Recruit: "I can't... This recruit can't, sir!"
DI: "You can't, why?"
Recruit: "You're friend has..."
The DI cuts him off.
DI: "You! You! You! Do I look like a goddamn female sheep? That's fine. Attention!! 1,2,3,4,..."
The drill instructor starts counting off in rapid succession, as the group stands at there feet. Sniper begins to walk away from the group.
Sniper: "See that, that right there is The Pit. It's on the forms of punishment given to recruits here when someone in your platoon fucks up. And I will admit, I had my fair share of days where I've ended up here. Hell, sometimes it was the first thing I did in the morning, other times it was the last thing I did before hitting the rack for the night. I hated doing it, we all did. And before anyone asks, yes 99% of the time we force in here because of the actions of one solitary person. Often because they didn't want to follow simple instructions. But the idea of The Pit was never to punish but to teach. It's a lesson, that we are all in this shit together. Marines are a Band of Brothers and we need to look out for each other and help those who are struggling the most. Our main mission in the war was never to kill the enemy, but to make it back home. In one piece, to make sure we all made back home. It's doesn't mean I liked it. Far from it. But it was one of those things that after the seventh or eighth time I came to realize. It was part of the package, alongside things like The Rifle Range, and Confidence Course. Everything around here is designed to help build you and those around up. Despite what the outside world might think. These tasks, these exercises may seem harsh, but they are the building blocks of success. Don't believe me? You looking at it right now. When I first step foot off the bus here. I was a skinny 195 lbs nerd, who knew more about The Legend of Zelda, that a gun. I wasn't a gifted athlete, and I knew I was going to have to work harder than anyone here to make through 12 weeks of the toughest training on the planet. Sure there were some setbacks a broken wrist in week 4 of training pushed me back a bit, but I preserved through the adversity and managed to graduate top of my class. And now I hear them say that The Rumble will now take place on the XHF Barge in international waters. Well, that's fine with me. Cause like the Marine Corp Hymn states."
"From the Halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli. We will fight our country's battles on the land, the air, the sea."
Sniper: "So I don't care how many Cards we have on deck. Or how much the Storms surge. On smooth seas, or torrential waves. I Barratt the weather, in Timeless fashion. For when the dust settles, and we make it back to port. The Caffrey Young will have fallen. I will step back on the soil of the good ole' US of A. As the new X*Crown champion. All I need to do is pull the trigger."
