Welcome once again to this week's edition of the Elite Eight folks. Now by all accounts it's been yet another truly tumultuous week within the entire company and in turn plenty of shuffling around from top to bottom and vice versa has gone on as far as the latest poll itself is concerned. So, all things considered let's get underway with a strong start shall we, as we open the things off with:
On the bubble, but just missing the cut: Slain, Charlie Velez, MGK, Kuroi and Sexy Jason.

- An Xtremely difficult test of a match versus a blood-thirsty monster looms as AJ makes his official Elite Eight debut this week and begins gradually building steam for the stretch run ahead with the days dwindling bit by bit until Night of Champions VIII. With Kuroi lined up first on the singles docket, then a likely triple threat of some sort on Pay-Per-View The Black Dragon is certainly making his presence felt and victories in either contest over Kuroi or especially MGK would be not just huge, but downright earth shattering towards the ultimate goal of re-establishing himself as a force to be dealt with by anyone whatsoever on our roster.

- Sans the retired XHF World Title he claimed for a final time last March versus Mr. X, none other than our owner himself resurfaces this week as he emerged from the shadows of XHF Headquarters in Minnesota and eventually proceeded to accept Doc's challenge despite repeated attempts to brush him off and downplay his adversary at first. Then as "thanks" for his efforts he received an abrupt Genecide Kick heard 'round the world, an appalling action by Doc that's sure to be taken anything but lightly by Mongo and quite possibly punished severely once the two get their hands on one another come Night of Champions VIII and settle the rights to the VXW Heavyweight Title belt for good. Mongo seems to thrive over and over again with the pressure is on, as was proven last year at this same time for instance, but can he overcome the sheer will of Doc and topple his latest obstacle in this David vs. Goliath style showdown?

- Making her much anticipated return to the countdown this week, the seductively elegant but ever dangerous Frozen Phoenix most recently sought out pre-match advice from her brother Doc himself heading into Night of Champions. With her self-confidence and all around arrogance at an all-time high she seems primed for the performance of a lifetime come March 29th when she and one Reeshi do battle once and for all, a chance under No DQ conditions for her to springboard herself directly back into X*Crown contention with a victory should she manage to defy the odds and pull it off. Many have aspired to bring down the Biggest, Baddest Dog in the Yard, but few have finished job so clearly it's much easier said ahead of time, and much harder done in crunch time.

- Since crossing paths for the first time this week with one Sexy Jason and suffering certain female troubles as a result, the ECF/XHF veteran has been out for vengeance and his quest to even the odds is set to boil over and culminate one way or another this Wednesday night at Eve of Champions '09. Will GD have to what it takes to win the so-called "Battle of the Bodies" in a few short days, or much like his initial meeting with Jason, will he not have what it takes to measure up? Rest assured he plans to make a huge pre-PPV impact no matter what happens, and then for Night of Champions the future for this man remains equally shrouded in mystery.

- From unranked and off the XHF radar to top 5 in the span of a week, Mr. Awesome seems to be living up to his name in every conceivable way as he returned with a major impact several days ago and declared his true intentions to go after Chris Kanyon himself and seek the most coveted prize in the entire business, the X*Crown Championship itself. Will Kanyon cave in to Steve's demands for a title shot, or will he continue holding firm in his stance to remain outside the XHF landscape altogether? Time will tell, but it's a given the Awesome One will continue playing mindgames and doing everything possible to make the champ crack both mentally, then perhaps physically come Night of Champions VIII.

- In the wake of his previous debut at #2 Doc slips ever so slightly, but nonetheless keeps the overall momentum rolling right along for himself this week as the Boyhood Dream finally got the very two words he's longed for most out of our owner Mongo, "I Accept" as it concerned a one on one match for Night of Champions VIII. Now that Doc's gotten his request granted and the stage is set for an epic encounter between these two live on Pay-Per-View, what will be his upcoming choice at Eve of Champions for the match type, and most importantly, has he in general bitten off more than he chew come March 29th?

- With his Eve of Champions matchup with Slain now finalized and the official full-time "rules" for his No Mercy Championship recently announced, Harold takes a massive jump up the Elite Eight this week and pure pandemonium seems inevitable to ensue this coming Wednesday Night between the Hardcore icon and the XHF's master of comedy. Stay tuned as this one promises to be an unforgettable classic one way or another, and especially considering the winner still has an unknown opponent for Night of Champions itself to deal with just 11 days later.

- This week there's finally a new king of the hill so to speak as Venom emphatically seizes control, though perhaps just temporarily given the circumstances as it were. On Wednesday evening Venom stepped forth into the XHF spotlight for apparently one final time and made what had to be the most agonizingly difficult decision of his career, the choice to accept Charlie Velez's offer to join Velez Industries and retire from the squared circle. With an illustrious career spanning over nearly half a decade in the company and countless title victories on his resume this man will surely go down as one of, if not the single greatest competitor to set foot inside an XHF ring, so while The Main Event may indeed be gone, he is far, far from being forgotten anytime soon.
