We find Steve Awesome as he’s tossing clothes into a duffel bag. His head wrapped up, and his shirtless body covered in bandages as well. Every time he reaches for a t-shirt or he folds up a pair of jeans his body seems to send jolts of pain up and down his body. Every time he takes a deep breath, his body turns against him and forces him to regret even breathing in the first place. Reeshi really did a number on him last Friday, the man ran him down with a car for God’s sake, but look at him. He’s still going. He’s still moving. He is STILL fighting.
A few moments later, Jayson Matthews comes walking into the room. Fresh bandages wrapped around his own forehead. He was beat up, but not as bad as Steve was. Jayson drops his bag on the ground, allowing the thud sound that it made to get Steve’s attention. Awesome’s head jerks in the direction of the noise and even that in itself was enough to remind him of the onslaught from Reeshi.
“*sigh* You ready for this dude?”
Awesome shrugs his shoulders. How could he really be completely ready for something like this?
“Well, my body is sore. I feel like I’ve been hit by a freight train.”
Just thinking about it made his body hurt more.
“It was more like a Buick actually, but keep going.”
Awesome rolls his eyes. There’s no need to be specific when something that weighs a ton and is incased in steel comes barreling into you at least thirty miles and hour.
“Whatever it was, it hurt. Then my face got slammed through a glass window and finally, Coral Reeshed into the hood of the car. I should be lying in a hospital bed somewhere sucking nutrients through a tube down my throat. But I’m not. And do you know why?”
Jayson starts to grin as he nods his head. He rubs his hands together in excitement. He knew where Steve was going to go with this.
“Because your ready to beat some ass?”
Awesome shakes his head.
“No. Because I’m an idiot.”
“Yeah. Because your rea- wait what?”
Jayson looks up at his partner with a confused face.
“You’re an idiot?”
Steve nods his head before battling through the pain of putting on a t-shirt.
“That’s right, I’m an idiot. That or crazy…one of the two.”
A weak chuckle barely makes it past Steve’s lips as Jayson tries to make sense of what’s going on.
“You know….I might be a little naïve when it comes to wrestling and everything, but I’m at least pretty sure that making fun of yourself isn’t that great of a pep talk.”
Awesome just walks past him, ignoring that last bit and continues with what he was talking about.
“The one thing that’s always plagued my career, the one thing that’s always lead me down a path of pain and torment was the simple fact that when it comes right down to it, I’m just too stupid to be scared. After what happened to me last Friday, any other man would call it a night. After what I went through, Kanye West would be interrupting other car accidents to tell them that my car accident was the best one all year. I’ve thought it over, I’ve mulled through the facts, and I’ve realized that there is absolutely no reason why I should be walking into The Stan Sheriff Arena with the intent to wrestle…..but I’ll be damned if I don’t go and do it anyway. It’s pride, and my pride will be the cause of my death, and if that time comes on Wednesday or Sunday, then so be it. Because I am a wrestler, I am a warrior, and I am a champion. And I refuse to allow Reeshi to win it this way. I refuse to let him think he’s broken me. It’s going to take a whole HELL of a lot more…..”
Awesome pounds his fist into his palm, provoking shockwaves of pain to go through his body once again. Steve grits his teeth in pain and shakes his head once it subsides.
“…okay….not too much more…but I’m still standing aren’t I? And to me, that’s more than enough reason to go on and face them in that tag match at “In Harms Way”.”
Jayson just stands there in disbelief.
“You are one crazy mofo, you know that?”
Awesome chuckles.
“I mean, Reeshi is coming to “collect” this week and your talking about taking him head on?
“Yeah, figured I’d try facing him when he’s not driving a car. You know, just to see how things work out.”
Jayson shakes his head, a wide eyed stare on his face.
“Wow…..what a concept. I wonder if Reeshi has ever herd of it?”
Awesome zips up his duffel bag and puts it on his shoulder, then motions for Jayson to follow him. The team walks out of the room as the scene fades.
