[Our scene opens outside of a training facility in Greensborough, Victoria. While Marcus Smith is certainly new to Australia, he was quick to find a local health club to continue his training in preparation for his match against Mick Chisholm this coming week. The circumstances surrounding this match are a little murky, as the confrontation between the two men was presented in a certain context - which seemed a little out of character for Marcus. In recent memory, the second generation grappler would typically find himself on the proper side of the integrity ledger, which wouldn't include a hasty blindside at the expense of a fellow competitor.]
[Which begs the question. What exactly happened in the locker room prior to Rapid Fire Wrestling's Main Event?]
[One ambitious journalist was set to find out, and to dive deeper into the circumstances that surrounded Marcus Smith interjecting himself into the fray where to our knowledge, he had no business doing so.]
[We catch up with Marcus as he exits the front of the facility, and heads to the parking lot. Our young reporter flags him down, and offers him a few moments to justify his actions and help shed light into his psyche as he heads into his match this week. Once our reporter has made his intentions known, Marcus decides to share the details as he perceives them.]
Marcus Smith: "I understand that those who follow Rapid Fire Wrestling have been clamouring for some insight in regards to what took place in the locker room at the end of Shockwave. What the camera didn't show, was the demeanour of the man that I struck - Mick Chisholm. You see, I wanted to introduce myself to my colleagues, which is customary where I'm from, especially if I was to be viewed as a newcomer to the territory. I assume it was proper tact to extend one's hand in sportsmanship to your fellow man. Perhaps Mick Chisholm had overheard my short interview earlier in the evening, as I was met with mockery and disdain when I approached him."
[Marcus seems genuine with his tone.]
Marcus Smith: "When my attempts were rebuffed, I respectfully nodded my head, and turned my back to walk away. Perhaps Mick was quite anxious for his upcoming bout, and with his opponent potentially within ear-shot of our conversation, he decided to put on the strongest front possible to continue his charade of intimidation. As I sought to leave the confrontation, Mick quickly pulled me back to a face to face showdown, where his berating and mockery continued. It was here that I made my second attempt to defuse the situation, and wished Mick the best of luck in his match."
[Marcus' nostrils flare a little bit, as he seems to re-living the stages of the confrontation in his mind as he speaks.]
Marcus Smith: "At which point Mick wound up with malicious intent, and attempted to blister me. Much to his chagrin, I was able to move out of the way, which is when my instincts kicked in. Before I knew it, I had countered his attempt with a right hand of my own, which seemed to catch him by surprise. It's hard to play defence when you can't see the 'shot' coming. Anyhow, I must've connected clean, as Mick slumped to the ground in a heap."
[Marcus rolls his neck, seemingly out of habit to release some of the tension in his body.]
Marcus Smith: "As luck would have it, this is the exact point where the scene aired live in the arena. At first I knelt down to check on his condition, but a wave of satisfaction came over me. I think most of us have encountered a bully or two in our day, and when they looked back on the scenario, wished that they would've put them in their place. While it wasn't my initial intent to harm Mick, the situation escalated and the result was in direct correlation with his desire to show his alpha. Just because my demeanour was more passive and respectful, doesn't mean that I'm above defending myself or making a point when the situation is suitable. Perhaps Mick ought to consider other options in the future, should he insist on creating a scenario like this again."
[...]
Marcus Smith: "But, that's not really for me to say now is it."
[The question was rhetorical.]
Marcus Smith: "I would assume that I have Mick's full attention at this point, and he will be out for revenge. Those emotions carry a level of danger for the both of us. If Mick is able to harness those feelings of embarrassment that he surely feels, and is able to project in a positive way - I'll certainly have my hands full. If Mick allows his desire for revenge to cloud his judgement, I'll catch him, and I'll put him down once again. But this time, it'll be in the squared circle, and there will be a referee present to count his shoulders to the mat."
[Marcus adds a layer to his position, as he contemplates other factors that persist as he sets to make his debut with Rapid Fire Wrestling.]
Marcus Smith: "The wildcard in this contest is the stipulation associated with it. The referee isn't to disqualify either man, regardless of the way either wrestler decides to fight the battle. That's not all, as this would almost serve as an open invitation for anyone who might fancy the opportunity to use our match as a platform for their own agenda. The dangers associated with a match like this are the unknowns. I'm not familiar enough with Mick to know what he's truly capable of in a match like this. Mick may have a laundry list of associates he could secure for this contest and I would walk into an ambush."
[Marcus shrugs seemingly giving his opponent the benefit of the doubt here.]
Marcus Smith: "Mick is the local talent, who must've made headway with various potential allies throughout his journey in the world of professional wrestling. I'm the transplant, the man who comes to Australia with his bags packed and a dream to chase. I won't be looking over my shoulder for assistance, but I'll certainly be using my peripheral vision to keep tabs on my surroundings."
[Marcus stare's confidently into the eyes of the man interviewing him.]
Marcus Smith: "With all of these variable in play, it's going to make for a memorable debut in Rapid Fire Wrestling. Win or Lose, I can say with 100% certainty is Mick and I are set to settle our differences at Shockwave, and the best man will prevail."
[...]
Marcus Smith: "Count on it."
[The young reporter allows Marcus to brush past him, as it appears he has given his audience enough of his time today. The camera pans back, before fading out.]
[Cut.]
