[The scene opens to the sight of Aidan Seacreast, sitting on the steps of Eltham Library. The book "Wrestling Manifesto" by former AWL legend and Australian Wrestling hall of famer Chris Riley within his hands. A book, that he has credited with helping him add substance and polish to his wrestling style.
Especially when he knows just how volitile the wrestling industry can be. It was hammered into him like a nail during training that he needed to 'stand out from the crowd'.
He needed to find a way to slot into a niche that nobody else - or at least, very few people are covering. Otherwise, he will be bound to become another 'fish in the ocean' so to speak. Travelling in limbo, with no *true* sense of direction. No true chance to make himself known within the pool.
Which, as Lee Washington told him in wrestling theory, is the *worst* position a wrestler can find themselves in. Well, if he's being totally honest - it's the worst position *anybody* can find themselves in. Regardless of the industry, or even life. Either way, it's not the sort of position Aidan wants to find himself in.
Sighing to himself slightly, he thinks about the excerising of his demons at Shockwave. Of *finally* getting one up on Kallum, when it mattered the most. When all eyes were on them.]
Friday, was what needed to be done. It is what I had to accomplish, if I was to say I'm truly ready to take the next step in this industry. If I am to truly commence making a name for myself.
[Pausing, he ponders just how to continue phrasing his statement. Reflective moments like this have never been a true strongsuit of his. Even when he is alone, like right now.
Just not the type of person he is - he'd rather think about the future rather than the past. The 'what will happens' instead of the 'what has happened' type of thinker.]
It was my way of telling myself it was all worth it. That my labour. All the work I had put in to *overcome* you, had finally reaped its rewards. That it had all been worth it in the end. That I had shown that I was now officially the 'bride' in the story, as Lee so eloquently put it to me after the event.
[Aidan laughs, remember those words that Lee told him when he came backstage once the lights dimmed. Once everyone else had headed back home. Or to their hotels. Not as RFW commentator, but as Aidan's coach. As the man who had helped him. Taught him the ropes of the ring at the academy.
Discussing what Aidan had done right; where he could have improved, and can improve from his official professional debut. The sort of conversation that he made sure to make mental notes of what Lee was saying.]
I'm not here to dwell on that though. To me and I know to you too, seeing as we just caught up today, it was our statement. Our showcase of just what RFW. No, the entire world of wrestling, has to look forward to. Exactly *what* we have to offer as we build our careers. As we swim within the ocean.
[Looking down at the book, Aidan smiles as people walk around him, their own books in hand. Glancing up, he scours the parking lot - trying to spot the car of his friend Nicole. Who he is currently waiting for. Pulling his phone out of his shorts pocket, he presses the screen, seeing it's 4:45 pm. 15 minutes later than the 4:30 Nicole had said she would be at the library.]
Where is she?
[Unlocking his phone, he scrolls through the tabs before reaching the 'Messages' icon; clicking on it. Immedately noticing a message sent at 4:10 by Nicole. Causing him to take a deep breath as he opens it.]
(I'm gonna be a lil late today, sorry. Boss wants me to stay back after my shift ends to help him with some stuff. Will be there @ 5.)
[A relieved smile crosses Aidan's face. At least it wasn't something bad that had occurred - though he had also thought *maybe* traffic had held her up a bit. He knows how much of a grind it can be around this time of day. Even if it has lessened in recent times due to most people electing to, or well, being mandated to stay home due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Though restrictions have been easing in recent weeks. Yet at the same time, it provides him with an opportunity to ponder the match he has this week. A bout with a man who simply goes by the name 'Menace'.]
My second match, I have to face a man who quite honestly, scares me. I won't lie to you about that at all. Yes, I'm man enough to admit when I'm afraid of something. We all should be able to do that.
[Letting a breath escape from his lips, Aidan feels himself starting to tense up. Having seen just *what* Menace is cqpable of doing between those ropes.]
Yet I know that I *cannot* allow that to consume me. To drive me when I set foot between those ropes; face the man 1 on 1. Just like it was against Kallum. It's up to me whether or not I'm able to take the leap of faith --- if I can ensure I prove just why Lee. Why the academy places so much faith into me.
[Aidan smiles, as he pushes himself up off the steps.]
You'll all find out the results, Friday.
