Born and raised in Pasadena, California, Steen later moved to Long Beach, where he attended school and began his training as a professional wrestler. After graduating from Long Beach State, Steen earned a tryout for a wrestling promotion based out of Great Britain, where he wrestled under the ring name, "The California Dream" Johnny Blade. Steen returned to the states, in 2013, when he received a tryout offer with the WWX. After an impressive tryout, Steen was signed to a multiyear deal and went on to become one of the company's brightest young performers.
Prior to the WWX shutting down, Steen began to pursue acting on the side, earning bit roles on television shows, while still performing in the ring. Once the WWX shut its doors, Steen committed himself to acting full time. He has since had featured roles in films such as, "Maximum Force: Overdrive" and "Four Kings". Realizing that there was more he wanted to accomplish in professional wrestling, and longing to once again entertain the masses, Steen decided to make his return to the WWX at Armada.

“Crawling in the Dark” by Hoobastank hits. Steen walks out onto the stage. He stands and surveys the crowd momentarily. He throws his arms out in a crucifix pose as his pyro goes off behind him. He makes his way down to the ring posturing for the crowd. Once at ringside, Steen leaps up on the apron. He leans casually against the ropes and stares out at the crowd for a moment before entering through the second rope. He climbs onto the top turnbuckle and poses for the crowd.
