Our scene begins in the parking lot of the venue where the most recent Northern Pro Wrestling event took place. Most of the wrestlers and media have already left the premises, except for Blake Samuels. Blake recently inked a contract to be the voice of Northern Pro Wrestling, and conducting these types of interviews is nothing new for him. We watch as Gordon Carlson exits through the back door and makes eye contact with Samuels, who waves him over.
Samuels: "It was announced this evening that you will be wrestling Eric Dane in a Championship vs. Championship match on October 4th. Can you shed some light on your current state of mind?"
Gordon takes a moment to collect his thoughts, before continuing.
Carlson: "As you know, this is a match that I've been hunting since Night of Champions. Although I didn't walk away with the X*Crown, I did walk away with the temperament of a World Champion. In order for me to take the Canadian Heritage Championship to new heights, I need to put it on the line against the very best. That just so happens to be "The Only Star" Eric Dane."
[...]
Carlson: "When I made this challenge at August on the Atlantic, I assumed it would come together quickly. But, I was mistaken. Instead, I was lead to believe that Dane's days in NPW were behind him and the challenge that I was hunting wasn't going to come to fruition."
Gordon's tone is genuine. There is very little showmanship, as we inherently understand the levity of this scenario from his perspective.
Carlson: "But, here we are."
Gordon smirks at the irony.
Carlson: "A broken jaw followed by weeks of angst... - but here we are."
Samuels: "I can't help but imagine that when you made this challenge to Eric Dane you couldn't have known the key role that "Timeless" Alex Turner would consequently negotiate for himself."
Gordon nodded his head in agreement, as he started to seethe.
Carlson: "You might categorize Timeless' negotiations as impeccable. From Point A to Point Z, he's been one step ahead of everyone. Up until 'AOTA' I hadn't had the pleasure. But now that I have, I can safely say that his impact on my career has been both directly and indirectly profound."
Samuels is doing his best to digest all of this, and followed up with one final question.
Samuels: "The Match is official and both the Canadian Commonwealth and Canadian Heritage Championships are going to be on-the-line. Besides the opportunity to share the ring with a multiple time World Champion and prove to yourself that you're of the same calibre - What would a victory mean to you?"
Without hesitation.
Carlson: "I need to know."
His words linger for a moment.
Carlson: "I need to know if everything I've put my mind and body through over the past decade has been worth it."
[...]
Carlson: "The deepest part of me believes that it has been, but I need the undeniable proof in order to carry onward."
Although there is a pause, Blake holds the mic firmly in place as he senses that Gordon isn't finished.
Carlson: "So, on October 4th, I'll get just that."
[...]
Carlson: "Count on it."
Gordon nods respectfully to Samuels, and walks over to his rental car. Samuels gives the cue that the interview has concluded.
