<3 tacos aren't wrapped in bread though. it's wrapped in a tortilla. but hotdogs... they are totally placed between bread. But what about Subway "sandwiches"? According to Ireland it isn't really bread and yet I doubt we'll stop calling them that. Doesn't that grandfather other pseduo-breads like tortillas in then? nonononononononono no no no NO! it's still a sandwhich damn it! what else would subway be?

If you walked into a bar and ordered a sandwich, would you expect a hotdog? if i was in the mood for one yes. Bullshit You'd expect two pieces of bread, cheese (optional), and meat. The fact that a hotdog is one piece of bread is why it's not a sandwich.

If you have to change the state of something to make it fit the qualifications, i.e. breaking the bun into two pieces of bread to make a hotdog sandwich, then the thing in its original form does not match the qualifications.
You would not pick up sand on the beach and go "this is glass". However, sand when heated to an extremely high temperature, does become glass, but at that point it ceases to be sand.

If I throw ice cream on a steak, is it a sundae? The presence of one qualifying object does not make a whole thing.

Here is wikipedia:
A sandwich is a food typically consisting of vegetables, sliced cheese or meat, placed on or between slices of bread, or more generally any dish wherein bread serves as a container or wrapper for another food type.
Hotdogs don't match that qualification.
How about dictionary.com for a sandwich
two or more slices of bread with a layer of meat, fish, cheese, etc., between them:
Nope. How about webster's?
two or more slices of bread or a split roll having a filling in between
Nope!
Three strikes and you're out!

And for you smartasses, yes, I hold the opinion an open-face sandwich isn't a sandwich, but just a soggy platform for you to consume meat and gravy off of.

So Paris Baguette produces sausages that are cooked with the pastry bread in a hotdog-esq format: I don't think anyone can make the argument that those are sandwiches since they're pastries. BUT, they clearly look like hotdogs and I'd argue qualify thereof. So it's a hotdog that's not a sandwich- which would therefore suggest that in the wild hotdogs and sandwiches are separate entities
