"We continue to run circles within this tainted existence. Going from weakness to strength to weakness again. We arrive unprepared for the horrors and exuberances this existence provides us. And we leave unprepared for what the darkness has prepared for us in our arrival."
~Esmur stands in a dark, but not pitch black, room. Thin rays of light shine in bright angles from the window. He stands facing a mirror with his right hand stretched to the side, holding his signature black mask.~
"To many, staring into the abyss reveals truths they are not prepared to understand. Some turn away, others blink. Some deny the truth in front of their eyes. Whether we hide from our destiny in the void, stare into it in confused silence and reticence, or embrace it with a fervor necessary to get the most out of the journey to the black is entirely on the willingness to see the image for what it is. It is the same destiny for all of us."
~Gebin slowly walks into the room behind him, wearing his mask and a small neck brace. He puts a hand on the shoulder of his tag partner. Esmur glances back quickly before returning his gaze to his mask. He slowly lowers the arm and turns to face the visage in the clouded glass of the mirror on the wall in front of him.~
"It took so long for us to see the truth, to understand what we were witnesses to. We fought for so long for relevance and acceptance. Talked to many Gods and deities and holy beings. Probed the depths of religion, fanaticism, cults, and wrestling. We plumbed the depths of our inner selves and finally came to a revelation that would open to us the path to success and contentment after so many years, rising to relevance in the tag division, being taken seriously, getting the message out there."
~He sighs a heavy sigh. Failure is not something the Nihilists have tasted often before losing the XHF Global tag titles to Maverick and Drago. But since that fateful encounter they have suffered many defeats with no victories in between. A loss to the Vipers was the only one in the run through the tag division. Then two in a row to the AWF Icons, a short lived return where Fired Up proved fruitless and their own former partner nearly ended the life of Gebin.~
"Change is a fact of life my friend. We accomplished the first mission. We were well on the way with the second. The mission parameters changed. We grew, evolved. We could no longer just espouse the embrace of the darkness. The world changed. Our own brethren went from supporting the ‘nihilistic’ doctrine to claiming to be a God. Her mind shattered into a million fragmented fragile pieces. Clearly the results are not the optimal. We needed to see the truth."
"And so we have. It is not just enough to get people to see the end and understand and accept the encroaching darkness. For many, the view is too much. They shatter, they fail to live up to their potential. They fall by the wayside and lose their will to go on. And that is the opposite of the message the void has tasked us with. The end is not evil, it is not scary, it is not something to rage against. It simply is. It is inevitable and it is unprejudiced. We all will walk into the inky blackness. But the message that was lost in the first foray into this network was what to do with the time we have on the road to that end. We are not just food for the machine, fuel for the black. It needs no fuel, it does not wish to rush us. It simply embraces us in the end. Welcoming us home."
~Esmur turns from the mirror and tosses his mask to the floor near the mirror. He walks to the window and throws open the curtains fully letting natural light flow into the room. Gebin follows him and crosses his arms as he looks out the window. The normal hustle and bustle of the streets of Philadelphia is absent as the country still fights the biological horror. A few souls walk the streets, clad in masks and sweaters on this cold day. Cars pass intermittently on the street. The chill of winter hangs in the air.~
"It is a problem we all face, humanity in general is very bad at seeing the forest for the trees. We have this narrow, myopic, tunnel vision. We focus in and become reticent to change. But change is a fact of life, and you have to flow with it or get swept away with the current. Lost to the ages. History is built on the fall of civilizations because they lost sight of what was important. If everyone around you is unhappy, they will take what they can from those who are happy. Misery loves company after all."
"We are not the same men who first debuted in AWF and took it by storm. We have been elevated, we have been humbled, we have been … educated. The message is still the same, but the delivery has to change. It seems people took this as doomsaying, as a carte blanche to just assume nothing matters and do the worst things they can think of. Primal in NPW is a prime example, Brad Swann, Eric Dane, Scott Steel, Natasha, Kuroi … Hyperion …"
~The tension at that last set of names visibly seizes every muscle in Esmur’s face as he says it. Some wounds remain raw even years later. The bile with which he says Hyperion’s name almost pours from his lips.~
"Our ideology is being misused. A lack of a God or a deity or an afterlife is not reason to lose you humanity, the spark that makes us special. Evolution gifted us with the ability to think, pontificate, self-identify, and see future consequences and results. And somehow the idea that we shouldn’t be bound to some created old man in the sky turns people into monsters. We are trying to improve humanity, to get it to a perfect state. To embrace life precisely BECAUSE of what is at the end. That is the message. And yet we get cast aside like some movie rejects."
~The two men turn from the window and move to a couch where they now face the camera that has been set up recording all of this~
"Amazing how pop culture shapes the opinions of the uninformed. But we knew this would always be an uphill battle. Our careers have been one massive Sisyphean endeavor. And when we got close to the pinnacle it all came rolling back down over us again. Stand up, brush yourself off, and get back on the horse. We have done this all before. Our tenacity is not in question. Our ability to rise again is not in doubt. We start the climb one more time, from this moment. We begin anew with a new method of thinking and communicating."
~Gebin removes his mask now and sets it on the table next to the couch. He runs his hand through his long black hair and tosses it out of his face. Esmur tents his fingers in front of his tan beard.~
"A chance to get into the main event scene. A chance to win an opportunity, to win a title shot. A fool would overlook his current opponent and look ahead to the undead dracolich in the room. A fool would tell you that his opponent is new, fresh stepping in the ring, not cut out for this spot on the card. But a fool would be the dance partner who refuses to follow and doesn’t know how to lead. A fool … is not what my mother raised."
"When we returned to Fireside we made clear that we wanted both singles and tag opportunities. My post-Natasha syndrome is still such that I am not able to go every show in singles competition. I can handle tag matches with breaks. But my neck is not where I want it to be for singles bouts. So I will simply be out there for moral support and in a managerial capacity. Esmur here … will be reintroducing the world to the man who went to the semifinals of Fired Up alongside Chris Card last year."
"Indeed. Mister Fizz … I have to inform you ahead of time you are in for a world of pain. My methodology is to bend people until they wish they could escape into that all-encompassing engulfing void. I have an unparalleled mastery of the joints and nerves. I make anatomy my weapon and I break spirits and bodies. My partner and I are both agile but I leave the flying to him for the most part. Don’t think me a one trick pony however. I am multifaceted. I will make you a promise sir. I understand you are familiar with failure. Allow me to do you the service of putting on a showcase for the both of us. We will both be taken seriously as title threats after our match is over. And if you beat me, you will have truly earned this first win and the right to meet Mr. Bones."
~He leans forward and looks right into the camera, a serious look on his face, not betraying his inner thoughts but getting the point across that he is not underestimating his opponent.~
"It is my job to make you understand. And so I shall. I will make you see things from our perspective and you will come out better for it. We will together put on the match of the night and serve notice to the other flames in Fireside that we burn brightest and longest. Though we all eventually will burn out, be extinguished … the fires of our competition will fuel the desires of everyone else in this city. Fireside is the stage on which we make our production into a smash. I hold no ill will toward you Vodka Fizz. I just want everyone to know that us Nihilists are back and better than ever. That we have focused in our message and refined it to a polished … clarity."
~They stand up and approach the camera~
"I look forward to this meeting sir. I look forward to helping you overcome any misconceptions you may have about us. And I sincerely hope you will take some enjoyment in this excursion despite the agonizing pain I intend to inflict on your body. It’s nothing personal. It’s just teaching you how to live your best life, and make the most of the time before the black. But I can promise you by the end of Inferno … you will embrace eternity."
~The camera clicks off and fades to static~
