Radio Show Recording Studio
The scene opens on Dylan Black and a radio host sitting at a table, socially distanced and donning masks. The radio host is dressed as casual as can be, in a sweatshirt and gym shorts. Dylan, however, is dressed to the nines in a black suit and tie. X*Crown over his shoulder. The host waves to the camera.
Harold Stevens: What's up my homeboys and homettes! Merry Christmas! It's your boy Harold here with perhaps the biggest interview to date! In the final episode of 2020, we have the current XHF X*Crown Champion, Dylan Black! How are you doing, Dylan?
Dylan: I can't complain, I'm well. How about you?
Harold Stevens: I'm great, thanks. It's great to have you on the show.
Dylan: Thanks for having me! It's good to get out of the hustle and bustle that is the current wrestling circuit and sit down and just talk.
Harold Stevens: I wanna talk a bit about the end of the month. You are going to be very busy, with potentially two X*Crown defenses less than a week from each other. How are you feeling about the two matches?
Dylan: These are two very interesting matches that a lot of people are going to want to keep an eye on. Keith on my home turf tomorrow, and then Eric Dane in NPW just days later.
Harold Stevens: I'm being paid to ask about your match with Dane, as regardless the outcome at Raison D'etre it'll still be happening. You two have built up a bit of history as of late, with the attacks from him, the pull apart brawls, and now the events of Crowning of a Champion. Dane has sure had a lot to say lately in regards to this match, so let's start with this; say you do retain tomorrow, what does the match with Dane mean to you?
Dylan: Let me tell you. Eric Dane vs Dylan Black, potentially with the X*Crown on the line, is a huge match. The Only Star of NPW against the Shogun of XHF. To the untrained eye, this is a run of the mill bout of old school vs new school. Every fan should list this as a dream match, really. To Eric Dane, this is just another paycheck. Another chance to come in, collect a title and leave.
A pause.
Dylan: But to me... its about legacy. Eric Dane has quite the legacy. For more than 20 years he conquered everyone he came in contact with. The early 2000s, he was unbeatable. Many tried, and the people that could beat him were so far and few between you practically forgot they beat him when the next guy managed to topple him. Eric Dane has a long lasting legacy that's built him up, held him high for so long that one loss wouldn't hurt him. He has the ability to bounce back and keep at what he does best - being a piece of shit.
Smirk.
Dylan: But me? My career is still waxing. I've been around for a little over 5 years, and in that time I've learned a lot. Grown up. And this...
Gesturing to the X*Crown.
Dylan: ...is the fruit of my labor. The crown jewel that signifies I've made it. Eric Dane wants it to come crashing down. Everything I've earned, he wants to take for himself. Just can't have enough at my expense? This situation we find ourselves in, it's a bit ironic. You see, Eric Dane doesn't care about the X*Crown, the history it tells and the legacy I seek to build with and around it. He only cares about himself and his Syndicate. He walks out of Crowning of a Champion with the North American Double Crown, congrats by the way, but craves more. Walks a path based on... what, being able to predict my obligations as champion?
He scoffs.
Dylan: When I walked into NPW, every twist and turn that I took, I could not escape him. The republican sneer. The jeers, beatdowns and that attempted mauling. Eric Dane knows my value, and knows that if he keeps beating me down it'll make NPW look good. But it won't. Not only that, but I've been collecting the receipts for his shit and it's due time I cashed in for a refund!
Harold Stevens: Solid stuff, man. Now before I let you off the hook, Dane has had plenty to say about you. Quite honestly, he-
Dylan: He what, used good words and got the better of me? When it comes to shit like this, I'm aware I'm no wordsmith. But fuck me, does Dane talk just because he likes to hear himself talk? Half-ass this and "I'm offended" that. I've heard every single taunt this man threw at me before, and I've driven my fist into the face of every asshole who's talked those talks.
Dylan: But don't fret, because Dane is special and different! He talks a tough game and has won matches so surely he's a challenge! Bitch please, I've boxed with guys more physically and mentally imposing than The Guy Who Hides Behind Scott Steel.
He mutters a line about flabby abs, complete with an eyeroll.
Dylan: But just because I don't fall to your intimidation tactics, doesn't mean I'm not underestimating you. I'm prepared for the Syndicate's debauchery and I'm going to learn your every move. And every chance I get in our match, I'll make you look the fucking fool you are. You might be the face of NPW, but you'll be the ass of every joke in the locker room for years to come.
That cocky grin comes back in full schwing.
Dylan: And when your ass is looking up at the lights on New Years Eve, you just might learn what champ shit is truly all about.
